    Aw, thanks. <3

You're probably right, and I have nudged him meaningfully about it. Right now he's psyching himself up about having to stand up again. If he throws up in the car, I will consider it divine retribution for the time I threw up in the car and he had to clean up after me. I had a way worse reason, too. He's actually sick, I was just totally shitfaced.

Just remember you can pull over at any time.
Especially if you are on the freeway.
Just swerve right on over to the side. Surely nothing bad will happen. C:

That's horrible, but dehydration takes quite a bit longer. I had salmonella posioning (well, probably - I was never tested so it could just have been another bad food posioning) and it wasn't before I'd been puking (and other things...) for close to three days that the doctor said that I'd have to go to the hospital if my wife wasn't able to get some fluids in me.

Of course, if you're worried, you should go... but it's not like a car trip there and back will be pleasant for him, and if you also have co-pay or whatever (i don't know how you guys are set up), I just think it's a bit early.

I rarely throw up, but when I do...

For whatever reason, when a virus or food poisoning make me throw up it's extremely violent but very short lived. I once decorated an entire public bathroom with a king size Calzone*. I ran a fever and had the shakes during the night, but in the morning I was all good again.

    * And I do mean the entire bathroom; enough to make the wet squishy sound when you stepped on the floor. Plus the door to said bathroom. On the outside.

So since he has gone HOURS without throwing up, I have allowed him to continue laying in bed feeling shitty. He is nursing a bottle of watered-down Gatorade. Perhaps later he will eat some BREAD.

If you work full time that's close to ten grand. I know I throw around the time-value of money crap in a lot of situations where it's like 20 bucks for a few months and I' mostly joking in that case, but the interest on a semi-weekly annuity of ~$400 being converted to just a future payment at the end of a year is substantial.

We went on vacation on election day to Maui to spend 6 nights. It was pretty great except for missing a snow storm back home and having our flight home cancelled. Sure, on the surface it sounds great to be stranded in Hawaii, but the real world does not like when you are rebooked to a flight two days later. Yes, two days. Sons of bitches.

Anyway, we hiked on a mountain, kayaked, swam in the ocean, snorkeled and drove around looking at stuff. Good times. Finally catching up with EE now.

Went down to do laundry in my basement today and found my basement flooded to the tune of about 1/2". This happens, on occasion, when rains, or even snows are heavy, but there has not been abundant precipitation. Found my basement drain seemed clogged, went to try to pick stuff out of it. That's when I found that the basement was not just flooded, it was flooded with sewage. Lovely. This was going to be beyond my skills so I called a plumber. Plumber tried to snake it from two different clean outs and no luck. He ran a camera down and found that the line out to the street is completely destroyed by tree roots, basically. When he pushed through with a snake more dirt just came down to fill it in. I'm looking at having the majority of the line from my house to the street replaced to the tune of three grand, of which I can afford maybe $500 with serious belt tightening. On top of that I'd be lucky if it could be done before the holiday.

So I have no working plumbing, a fragrant house, and no idea what clean up will entail cost wise or what can be salvaged. I will call tomorrow to see if clean up is covered at all on my home owners policy as I can't find it at the moment.

Awesome thing to deal with two weeks after my daughter was born. :(

On top of that dealing with a moderate injury of my two year old as well. When my wife was in labor her folks were watching him and apparently closed his fingers in a door so severely that he lost two fingernails. No bone breakage but dealing with a two year old that needs to have fingers wrapped, etc, and plays hard enough that our best attempts at wrapping last only a day or so have not been fun. We're down to bandaids now but he still hurts them a lot by bumping them during play. Ugh.

Oh yeah, all of my cats' litterboxes were past the now-sewage-tainted area so I ran to the store tonight to pick up a new one to put upstairs. two year old insisted on coming along... no big. Of course he throws up all over the pet aisle. This in and of itself I would probably have been in a better frame of mind to deal with, but on top of everything else, it felt like pretty much the worst night ever.
  21. Bryce Keeper of the Elemental Materials

That sucks, man. :( Not something you want to be dealing with right now, that's for sure.

I have no idea if it is something you want to deal with or if you have friends/family who you could call into help, but a significant amount of that estimate is the "landscaping" - uncovering the pipe itself and maybe re-covering it. Due to the long drought in Texas the past couple years we knew a couple of people who had to have main lines replaced due to shifting earth and, with a similar estimate to yours, knocked anywhere between 1/3 to 2/3 off. Sure, it's a lot of work, you can't really do it yourself depending on how far down the pipe is and you might regret it while doing it, but it's an option. Maybe. (Your home warranty might cover the pipe, but I'm doubting it. The one person I know who was covered had a higher deductible than the ultimate cost of the project. YMMV.)

Thought I'd toss it out there as an idea. Again, sorry you're having to deal with it, man. Hope everything sorts itself out soon.

Puke update: Puking seems to have stopped. Still having some intestinal crabbiness where the less is said about those the better. Jack the Cat kept vigil basically all day (he may feel a kinship, as he's had these issues himself). Water was kept down. Toast was eaten. He tried sitting up for a bit out of boredom, but his body evidently still wants to just be curled up in bed, so back to bed he went.
  24. MulMizu Sassy Black Woman

Fatigue's normal. Especially after how much his body went through. Just keep him hydrated and slowly make your way back to normal foods. He'll be fit as a fiddle in no time~~

At Wal-Mart yesterday, I found a 50 dollar bill sitting on the floor as I was heading to the registers. I turned it in to lost and found at the customer service desk. I hope the person got his/her money back. That's a lot of money to lose! I also hope the lost and found worker didn't just keep it.....

4 out of 7 of us in the office today are currently on military-grade painkillers for different reasons. Today would be the perfect day for a random drug test because we'd break all sorts of records.

Well, I pay a $5 co-pay every month for my supply of Vicodin thanks to the VA, two of our directors are back in the office after VA surgery (one for removing 45-year-old shrapnel, the other to repair a torn labrum) and are on varying degrees of Oxycodone, and we're all happy to see our tax dollars at work.

See, you laugh, but between the combination of painkillers to moderate what the VA calls "Chronic Idiopathic Pain" and anti-glare glasses to reduce the incidence of photophobic migraines, I have received multiple comments that my attitude at work has improved by leaps and bounds.

Although I have coworkers that still love to tell the story of the day we opened late because of snow, and the day prior I'd had major dental surgery. So that morning I'd taken a Percoset at 8am (when I usually get to the office), and when I got in at 9:30, I took another one out of reflex. I was, as the kids say, high as balls. At the point where I answered the intercom with "Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey... what up?" my boss just came in, shut my PC down, handed me a pillow, shut the lights off and said "We'll have someone drive you home in a few hours."
