Other way around, Kijyo sub Hazuki. I didn't meet Kijyo until 3-4 months in because I wanted to focus on stats before the first test and you have work on the Style stat for the first encounter. Natsumi makes your Style score around 80 for the first test just by beefing up her Social.

    Did you watch the thread?

Wow, this is the second time Othello's been relevant on this site within a week. Reading it for English right now. Does Dom Casmurro also have a huge douchebag running the plot? What is the jealousy about? I'm not very fond of the type prevalent in Othello since his love for Desdemona kind of flies out the window once her love doesn't make him special anymore and thus (along with military blah) knocking him from his self-thought secure standing in Venetian society despite his dark coloring. (I just realized this in the library the other day. Pyschoanalyzing characters for the win)

tldr; not found of stories based mainly around racism

Have you read Othello? If so, I want to ask: Iago--homo/bisexual or not?

Aw, I'm going to feel sorry for Hazuki, poor baby. But it's all in the name of the Perfect House-Husband!

Yes I did, that's the odd thing!

Oh no, there's no racism or anything, Dom Casmurro's mostly about the jealousy.
But there is indeed a douchebag ruining Bentinho's relationship with Capitu, even if unintentionally, and that is actually Bentinho himself.

I have read Othello, but the version I read was this abridged version for 14-years-old with small attention span and it's been a while since I read it, I was younger then and might not have caught the subtext that implied Iago was homo/bi, so to me he was just this asshole who was in love with Desdemona or something. Again, i'ts been a while since I've read it, and the details are kinda blurry, so take it with a grain of salt.

    Cultural festival week!

Nope~<3 Why, do you have something for Yume?

Yum. Are those peas? I love peas in my fried rice.

Yume: Eh? You cooked that by yourself?

Fried rice is not that hard to make.

Kijyo: Yeah. Is that a big surprise? I live alone so at least I gotta know how to cook.

Living alone must be quite difficult. And I smell the savory, mildly oily scent of familial conflict! Goody, just as delicious(ly dramatic) as the fried rice.

Kijyo: Shall I feed you? Aaaaah...

    /insert choo choo train/airplane joke here/ /insert representational phallic objects joke here/

Yume praises him and he thanks us in return.

    1. Why not?
    2. Whatever, more nom nom nomming for us then.

Yume: You're really good at cooking.
Kijyo: Nah, it just requires practice. Besides, I'm not just good at cooking. I'm pretty good at doin' laundry, cleanin', and even sewin'. I'm pretty much like a handy man who can do everythin'.

I miss typing 'g's. Also, it sounds like you're the perfect mother for our (Yume and you that is) children. It's not like I already have your two's entire life planned out on a note on my computer labelled 'battle strategy'. Earn love points on Christmas event, confession on last day of school, college, get married, have twin girls named Kikyo and Nami.

Kijyo: Anyway, it's pretty tough. I gotta do all those while keepin' up with my studies.

Huh. I never paid much attention to this scene before but that is really difficult. Just being a student is stressful enough but having to take care about the rest of your life...where are the irresponsible parents who shifted all the responsibility unto your shoulders? Watch, this is going to turn out to be totally insensitive because his parents are dead. (I actually don't know)

Wait, you chose to live by yourself? Wow, those must be some really bad family conditions. What is it? Crazy mother in the attic? Siblings forced to live in the attic and eat poisoned rats all the while experiencing puberty? Never read Flowers in the Attic. Just don't do it.

Kijyo: Hm, well...I've got so many issues with my father...Oh, well. Let's not talk about it. Thanks for eatin' my food! See ya later!

An unartful avoidance. Be warned, we will unleash the spill your guts powers of the protagonist on you. And you will like it.

We head up to the roof (what? Inconsistent nouns/perspective? Lalala, can't hear you) and find Hazuki. Having a personal conversation on the phone. Oh boy. Seeing as how I don't have a choice to make Yume turn back instead of being a nosy eavesdropper, we'll just have to sit through this mess.

Then, why don't you just leeeeaaave? And somehow I can telepathically molest Hazuki without interrupting him?

This line kills me. I just love lonely rich boys so much. Hazuki still tries to be a good child instead of acting out to get attention (too perfect sometimes /suspicious glance/). He's also accepting of his parents' schedule. Cuuute, don't worry, Yume can comfort you~ Come into my bosom.

Hazuki: ...It's okay, I'm used to it this...Sorry, I didn't mean it that way...Anyway, you really don't have to worry about me. Well, I have to go. Bye Dad.

AND THEN YUME CHOOSES TO GO OUT AND PROBE HIM FOR DETAILS. What happened to the japanese social standard of trying to avoid making others uncomfortable as a way of living?

    Hazuki: Really?

Okay, I know I partially said this just a few lines ago BUT WHY ARE YOU SAYING IT TO HIS FACE. Hazuki is understandably miffed at out statement and ellipses passive-aggressively at us (employing Canadian tactics, I see).

Yume: And you looked a bit lonely too...

Hazuki: ...You probably just imagined that.

Hit a sore spot huh? Okay, Yume, before you poke his emotional wounds with a scalpel anymore, can we please try to get out this whirlpool of awkwardness? Hazuki ends up being the one ushering us back to the class for cultural festival preparation. Nothing like the blood and sweat of students to bring out the shadows of characters, eh?

I walk back home with Arisawa, here's a transcript because I clicked right past it by accident.

Yume: Are there any exhibits you want to see?
Arisawa: I'm going to visit the gardening club's cafe...Th-that's because I heard they have very good herb tea!

    Right.

Our class is putting on a coffee cafe this year and wonder of wonders, somebody other than Tsukushi comes to visit us! I like you just for that, Kijyo.

...That still means you were checking out the girls in here. Mm'kay, ignoring that for now.

Cute~ He orders hot coffee; Yume delivers it with milk.

Why must everything that comes out of your mouth be wonderful? It's actually pretty nice having a forward love interest for once.

Kijyo: If possible, ya can come to my place and make coffee for me, Yume-chan <3.

DO WANT. One of Kijyo's favorite date locations is his house

so this is quite possible! Yume gives a flustered response and the Cultural Festival concludes smoothly.

Our relationship with Kijyo is progressing splendidly and Hazuki is almost at :) level. Just according to keikaku.

    Food.

The G-key on my old laptop either doesn't work or double-taps, so when I write from it, half the time I sound like Kijyo.

And that Hazuki scene still gets all my WTF. It's even weirder because normally the protag if anything is a lot more passive than this and would just try to walk off, only to trip, adorably clumsy, and be forced to reveal she heard it all.
  8. PARAdoxial Already Beat BF's New Expansion

    Location:

Mmhmm. It's not consistent with the standard protagonist. Plus, the purpose of this scene was to show some of the background and depth to the main character. That little tidbit afterward the phone call was completely unnecessary other than the ''lonely'' section which could have easily been incorporated into the protag's thoughts while eavesdropping.
Antiqua, Randissimo and Davian Korran like this.
  9. Davian Korran Hatoful Pigeon

It's something I feel Love Revo handles a lot better in a similar scene with Ayato. Everything she infers she thinks rather than blurt it out, and she's discovered by accident rather than just barge in and start questioning him. Add to that, Hitomi has a lot more moxie than most protagonists. The Hazuki scene here at best feels inconsistent and at worst makes the protagonist seem rude and obnoxious.

Nope, just Seaweed Brain and not even the adventuring demigod one.

Seaweed: Just forget about the guy that stood you up and go have some drinks together.
Or to say it in Kansai dialect (how does he know? The creeper information network is larger than I thought)..."Dontcha wanna grab a cuppa joe with me?" Or something like that.

You know, that might've come off as charming if he wasn't kind of making fun of another dialect and definitely would have worked in a shoujo manga if he were the main lead.

Of course since I said that, the Kansai guy immediately appears to argue against my point.

I'm still on page 24 of this thread with no end in sight, but I'm just replying to say that I've never read such illuminating and in-depth discussions on a forum. It's glorious. Also the fact that everyone here seems to have a different Mother Tongue makes me so happy because I have a thing for the sound (especially via songs) of just about every foreign language ever and German in particular, at times Russian and Ukrainian and I can't explain it. I just want to listen forever, don't even need to understand.

'Most' or 'many' would be my guess, going from the Latin Pluralis.

Now we're at language, funny thing. Did you know 'State' has basically the same name everywhere in Western Europe? 'État', 'Staat', 'Estado', 'Stat'... In Russia, the word for a state is 'Gosudarstvo' which means 'dominion'. All the Western European words stem from the Latin STATVS. Why? Because when Roman Law was rediscovered, Western Europe was crawling with the priviledges estates, the Church, the nobles, the free towns and the king. It was used to describe their legal rights. 'Status Rei Publicae' - 'The Business of the Republic' was also incorperated into the administrative apparatus and by the time Machiavelli was writing the two meanings had come together to not mean 'right' but 'state' in the traditional sense.

It doesn't sound unrealistic! Well... only because I want to do the same. The most I actually managed in that regard is knowing how to say 'hello', 'goodbye', 'please' and 'thank you' in eight languages. XD So I'll be very POLITE while not knowing what anyone's saying. I've been boning up on French and German a little better because I happen to have a couple of gorgeous musicals in those languages that I listen to all the time. But them being dramatic songs mean I'm probably not good for any normal conversation.

ALSO, I'm sorry if this is hideously off-topic again but we've been given permission to derail in any case, but could any of you share with me any songs or artists you like in your native languages? I recently got a Spanish friend drown me in a massive list of names and links and it's been marvellous. Not just because music with translated lyrics truly does help learn, but also because I really really really like good songs in foreign languages regardless of understanding, as I've mentioned before...

So, anyone and everyone, if you want to contribute (possibly via message so it doesn't take over THIS thread), I would be extremely grateful. And to our thread host, I hear you're Chinese so songs in that vein? :D
  37. Davian Korran Hatoful Pigeon

Most well-known Danish artists send out their songs in English. It might need your definition of 'Good'. In actual Danish there's Peter Sommer for the quiet, introspective stuff and Nephew for the sort of breakaway wacky*. But, erm, I guess there's always... considering it became oddly popular in Japan several decades later: Vi Er Røde Vi Er Hvide (It means; We Are Red We Are White and was the 1986 offical Danish National Football Team hymn. It's got a lot of nostalgia to it in Denmark. Japan just likes singing men with truly regrettable hair, I guess.)
