mum, seriously, if I had any money I would offer you some for a certain two of those paintings. WANT.
Honestly I'm not much a fan of geometric art like that usually mum but I really like your colors and the patterns you've used! I'd take the 6th and 8th one and would find good places to hang them!
oh my god those things make my eyes smile wow wow the colors wow wow the clean cut-ness of it wow i think i might have a crush on your art
For some reason, while I like all of them - they have a really pretty starkness to them - I especially like the third.
I'm very much enamored with strong colors and lines. I've tried to paint things with more muted colors, but in the end I just don't end up liking them as much.
This one reminds me a lot of the Harpa in Reykjavik P1030214 by Iain Compton, on Flickr P1030190 by Iain Compton, on Flickr
It's actually modelled after a hotel in Copenhagen: one of very few paintings I've made that actually has a basis in a physical object.
Finished a scarf! I love cotton. I really need to find where my camera went... this phone just does not do great photos...
I'm now working on starting this sock monkey. My printed pattern handout thing says easy and the website says intermediate, but I'm going with "FUCK YOU SC ROUNDS" because I'm having a really hard time getting this thing started. Augh.
that's a cool scarf Alligator! I love the colors and the patterning. Monkey: that does not look easy. That looks terrifying.
I'm on my third attempt to start the head, working on the 5th round currently. This is taking forever xD I don't know how they decide pattern difficulty, but I never imagined sc's to be such a pain in the butt, that's for sure. It also doesn't help that I (perhaps quite stupidly) decided to go ahead and use Caron's simply soft. My hands are not handling it well. ETA: It just occured to me that I don't know which side is the inside of the monkey. Is it the side facing me or the side facing away? I'm not turning when I complete rounds, so the same side is always facing me.
So the TheTrunkDr shaving stand is taking shape. A dry fit has shown where adjustments need to be made including a possible major change. The shavings are from the pieces being used. I need to make a new top as the spacing is wrong. The tape on the brush is there to make it the same diameter as the TheTrunkDr's and it needs to be moved outward. I will probably make it from slightly thinner Meranti (unless I can find some thinner Bamboo) to give a better fit with the contour of the brush handle. The view from the back. This shot shows the curve that will be cut into the upright piece. As you can see in the photos, the Bamboo started burning, so I need to pick up some new blades before I start cutting again. This shot also shows the little dimple that will help hold the razor in place.
New scrollsaw blade, new top and new razor thingamabob on the glass, and we're on our way. Just need to finish shaping the top and upright, chamfer the cutouts and then I can put the base together then finish that off as well. I have more time than I thought to finish the Caterham box so I'll be able to spend more time on this.
This means I have to steal some room on the bathroom counter from my wife, there's no way this can't be displayed!
Five hours of work later, I have the beginnings of a noggin! I've switched hooks three times now, and I'm about to switch yet again because I'm still having trouble with the stitches being too tight. Bleh.
Paging TheTrunkDr - Dry fit ready for a coat of clear. This photo would have been taken a few days earlier if I hadn't broken the glass when clamping the base. The upright needed some creative clamping to make sure everything was true. The two sections have since been cleared and should be reading for final assembly some time tomorrow. I should have photos of the finished product within the next couple of days.
This is the newest painting that I have been working on, I guess it is going into pop art somewhat. It is however, not entirely finished and I am unsure which if the borders would be best in white or black. What do you think? (Crude manipulation, obviously)
Also voting for rough edges. (disclaimer: early modernism is my favorite period and Marc Chagall is my favorite painter, so I'm all about rough edges)
I as well prefer the rough edges, but if you're insisting on the border, then I like the white better.
I don't know much about art. As in I know what I like and what does nothing for me, and I'm very bad at articulating why - but your stuff reminds of one of my favourite Danish artists an abstract painter named Richard Mortensen who's important enough to be way out of my price range without being terribly well known. In other words, I really like it. I especially like 5 and 9.
I like it when the finished product ends up looking exactly as it was pictured in my head. Let's just hope that the shaving tools that TheTrunkDr uses, fit as intended. Bamboo upright and razor holder, Tasmanian Oak capping on base, Meranti top, base and Marine ply cap on the bottom. And shavings from all in the base. It's finished in a gloss poly clear. Normally I would only put a thin coat on and then polish with beeswax, but as it's going in a bathroom, it needs to be protected. As a result, the finish isn't as nice as it could be, but it serves a purpose. The holder for the razor with a rubber plug to protect the glass. This is the first time I've worked with Bamboo, and I really like it. Normally you hide end grain as it never looks good, but with Bamboo it's the best looking part. After taking these photos I gave some sections a fine wet sand and another coat of clear. I'll give it another 48 hours to properly cure and then it will be carefully packed and sent across the world. I also need to wait a couple of days to pick up the rest of the stuff to go into the package.
NyimaR , SwitchKnitter , daemion , shift6, SqueakyFoo - thanks for the feedback! I guess I'll go a bit into thinking to consider if I should just leave it as it is. I can't help but feel that it looks a bit too.. busy with the rough edges, but I shouldn't just consider what other people like as well. I wasn't familiar with him, but it's definitely a style that I like - so thank you very much for the comparison.
daemion, I can't thank you enough for all of this, it looks fantastic and I can't wait to get it into my bathroom and load my gear into it! Now to get over my irrational anxiety about it getting damaged or lost during shipping, also I hope customs doesn't hold onto it for too long!
I'm pretty sure when you get it you are required to post a picture of it loaded with your shaving stuff. Based on your claims of weird razor dimensions that no standard holder can contain, I'm guessing that you shave with a small monkey holding a knife, so it should be interesting.
