This weekend in KC - low 20s to mid 30s (-5 to 1C for the rest of the world)
    Monday - 73F (22.7 C)
Tuesday - thunderstorms, wind gusts, and 1"-4" of snow expected by tomorrow morning.

Great Tzeentch, please stop fucking with my weather, will you?
  2. Alligator Despondent Fancygator

    Sounds about right for Missouri.

Supposed to get up to 30cm of snow tomorrow. This could be good because I'll get to stay home, but then I'll have to shovel...

We're having a strangely normal winter this year. The snow's finally begun to melt, and I no longer need to worry about freezing my face off! There's rivers of water everywhere though...

Here comes winter storm Nemo. Unlike the fish, I don't think he will be hard to find. They are predicting 40 inches (!) of snow in Worcester, MA, and two feet in Boston. They are saying that it's going to be the blizzard of '78 all over again...

They keep shifting the place that will get the most snow. Last check it was now Lawrence with 38 or so inches, Boston with 34 and Worcester with 30.

    So basically: we're all boned.

34 inches of snow in Boston is no joke. The city never gets that kind of snow. Usually the real heavy stuff is west of 495.

That map made me freak out for a second but it looks like NEPA is gonna be fairly OK, though schools will most likely be closed.

Grew up in Lawrence. Not a place you see mentioned often. Damn, I miss NE winters.

FD is doing a standby for this storm. That's three in like barely more than a year!

On one hand, great, another night spent with a bunch of dudes in the firehouse. On the other hand: $$$! it doesn't look like it's going to be that bad out here, I think the main reason we're doing a standby is that six to eight inches of snow makes it tough for us to get to the firehouse in the case of something bad happening. We'll have our own personal plow on standby, so we can get out to anything that needs to be gotten out to.

And hey, this way I can finagle a driveway plowing from one of the members. So that's nice!

I figure for the occasion I'll make chili. Woo!

Work is not cancelled for me. Since the governor has said that he wants all cars off the street at noon, they've decided we'll close at noon. Cause that makes sense.

    Blergh.

Seems like you guys on the east side have had much the same weather we've had this winter, instead of the regular situation, where we hover around 0 and anything east of the Baltic Sea has had around -10.

Huh, I thought it would be colder where you are, since you're further up north? And we did get a lot of -10 or so weather, it's only been defrosting in the past few weeks c: I was hoping it would reach -25 so that I wouldn't need to go to school, but nope, fate hates me still.
I hope everyone hit by the snow storm stays safe though...

Nah, I think the Baltic Sea works as a moderating influence against cold winds from the east and north. The average temperature (according to Wikipedia) in February for Stockholm is -5.3 - -0.6, while Vilnius, for instance, has -7.6 - -1.7. Tallinn, which is due east from us, has -8 - -3.
So in other words, as we all already knew, Sweden is the perfect country.

Man, I never thought I'd say this, but I wish I were in Worcester*.

We're only expecting 8" up here. Enough to screw up the commute, but not enough to have much fun in.

As far as I know, Estonia is generally a week backwards in terms of weather in comparison to us. For example, if snow had started melting this week, you could still go to Estonia and enjoy(?) the cold for another week. Last time I went, it was really annoying since the weather here had just started becoming nicer...

Everything is cancelled! Snow day, snow day!

But I can't play D&D tomorrow because one of my players is stuck in CA and another in Sweden. Their flights were cancelled.

Oh well, guess I'm playing Dragon Age II instead!

Well, I made it back from my epic quest to drive two miles to Wegmans and the gas station (out of gas for the snowblower) in one piece. Got home and there was a hawk sitting in my driveway. He wouldn't move, so I couldn't pull the car in. He had caught a bird of some sort, and obviously thought I wanted to steal it (I didn't). Hawks apparently have cast iron cojones, because even when I pulled my car up just a few feet away from him, he just stared at me with a look in his eyes that said "Do it. I dare you. I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU, MOTHERFUCKER." I eventually got him to move, though.

    Found in my mailbox:

Looks like a kid's writing. So what's the going rate for driveway shoveling? Think a kid would go for $20 and a used (or maybe brand new, depending) videogame? Especially if it were an M-rated game?

    Am I an awful person?

If Troy's in business for himself, he should be able to tell you what his going rate is. A lot of kids are too shy to do that, though. I remember how hard a time I had when I was babysitting.
  29. Forge This Is SEWIOUS

Yeah that 39.3 is pretty much right on top of where I am...
  30. Quackers Magister Mundi Elyscape

They've adjusted. Now Boston is getting the most at 26.8 inches. Worcester is only set for 23.3. SO THERE!

I've spent most of the past week in Alberta Canada looking for snow, only to find none, fresh anyway. Naturally the day before we are due to fly home Mother Nature decided to break her two year snow streak. TANJ.

Didn't lose power here during the storm, amazingly enough. Did get about 3 and a half feet of snow, though. It's super fun trying to shovel this white fluffy stuff while 60mph winds are blowing your shovel loads of snow back at your face.

Unfortunately, this wind tends to be everywhere at once given the composition of my apartment complex. Places to put the snow are also fairly limited given the ( by now ) 5 foot+ snowbanks on either side of my walkway.

Got about two feet so far, and didn't lose power. Unfortunately none of the roads are plowed, so it doesn't look like there's much point in me digging the car out at the moment.

We had about 3 feet. We couldn't open our front door and had to shovel up to it.

Just spent the day shoveling. A college girl from down the street came around and helped us shovel just to be nice. I now must bake her something fabulous.

Everyone out shoveling made for a nice sense of community. The dogs playing in the snow (until they got cold and wanted to go in, wusses) and everyone pitching in for each other was really great.

Also, being the fat, middle-aged guy, everyone kept telling me to take a break because they didn't want to deal with me having a heart attack.

We've got about two feet too, still got power and heat and all that good stuff. Couldn't get out the front door this morning though. Going to end up leaving the car in the garage till at least tomorrow I think.
