He LITERALLY starts weeping toward the end. I really wish he would have gotten the good end afterward, I'd like to hear his commentary on it.

As a side note, I can understand now why a lot of people's headcannon for Garry's voice is Cry. He's got the soft, gravelly voice of a gentle smoker. xD

He gives up drinking and becomes a daycare provider following his talent with children. Ib's parents regularly ditch her in daycare to go do rich people things, so Garry becomes Ib's third parent and they grow up happily together with macarons as the afternoon snack. THE END!

If Garry were drunk in that world though, I imagine he'd be a lot more relaxed and a lot less doll-kicky. xD MIght be a good idea to liquor him up for survival... Maybe that's why Ib was actually so calm!? She's hammered?

I went really numb. I was so.. How to even describe it? I had a stabbing pain and I just sort of sighed, I couldn't even muster tears. Tears are a sort of relief, a way of coping. I couldn't even do that.

Then Cry gave us the madness mantra about killing a bitch, popping her head off with our tiny hands, etc. And I laughed and nodded. I wanted to kill too...

I wish we had taken Garry's lighter off of him and finished the job. Best possible outcome at that point.

Ironically, when I first ran into Garry I thought I'd run into the most useless lump ever (as those of you who read my LP might have guessed). Why did the game shackle me to this hindrance? Why was my sole companion a rival for anime!Chizuru as Most Incompetent Character?

I don't know when my perspective changed. All I recall is when the mannequins started appearing and Garry nearly kicked the mannequin head, I didn't want him to get hurt.

Let me tell you how I generally play games: you aren't useful, you die. Garry was about to do the most useless act ever.

I can never play Together Forever or Forgotten Portrait. Don't ever ask me to. At most, I'll only watch others play them out.

I still think back to Memories' Crannies with a pang. I played how I would expect myself to act and feel. I never would have realized I could keep talking to Garry. Realizing that despite my best efforts, I'd still failed to keep them together... It's my painful True End. I'm sorry, Ib, Garry.

...this was just supposed to be a damn game. For fun. For LPing. Damnit.

What is up with this forum and finding games that like to abuse our emotions?

I'm so far gone I won't be able to trust friendly games anymore. Even kid games. I'll just eye them suspiciously going "You're going to pull something on me, aren't you? DON'T THINK I DON'T KNOW!"

I didn't actually play the game much, myself, I just saw Cry's video and it KILLED ME. Because my God. The ending. Just. Cry. Let me hold you.

I did read your LP finally, but not until after I was heavily spoiler to the game. Every time you cut into Garry I winced adn thought, 'Why are you saying these things? You're going to regret it later...' And you did, of course, lol.

He grows on you. 'Useless' or not, he's gentle, and legitimately the only thing in Guertena's world that cares what you feel, what you want, and to take care of you. To the point you hold higher priority than his own life, and he barely knows you. Even your parents don't seem nearly as devoted as this kind stranger trying to take good care of you and save your life, no matter how horrified he himself is. It slowly starts to sink in, in the back of your mind. Then when he's in trouble... You suddenly realize he's YOUR Garry to mock and drag around. And when somebody else tries to wreck that, you're none too happy.

I saw when it changed on yours, around the time Mary came and threw off your dynamic with Garry. You started gettign bad vibes off her inserting herself in your life and suddenly Garry looked a WHOLE LOT BETTER, lol. Then you got seperated. Then there was no turning back on Garry love. xD

I haven't played yet either, the game file looks like it's possibly too large to run on this computer. I want to play...

Magical Starsign was like that forme. By the end of that game, I had NO IDEA what had just happened, or what was happening. They mix disturbing character death with gummy worms and children. All of my what the fuck.

Oh hey I was planning to plant in a video with no problems, then DISCUSSIONS.

I first played Ib blind. At first I thought Garry would either be completely incompetent and die while the creators tried and failed to make you feel something or he would try and kill you. Then he gave you candy. I just stared at the screen in happy surprise, but I still didn't want to talk to him.
Then there was Mary.
As soon as she started to gush about colors I flinched and immediately tried to get closer to Garry. He seemed like the saner out of the two.
After that I started to talk to him, trying to get a good ending. Eventually I grew fond of his adorable little babbles.
However, I screwed up a couple of times and got the Together Forever ending...Needless to say I was not pleased.

So... The thing we love the most about Garry is.. He's not Mary? It can't be that simple. Mary just makes us realize we like him. Personally, I'm not as cynical as you guys in characters, I'd be more willing to give him a chance from the start. What with him being not-sinister, and increasingly trying to shelter and protect you...

I was happy with Garry from the start. Something in this godforsaken world that's not trying to kill me? Sign me up. I was pretty sure for a little bit that he was going to secretly turn out to be evil, though. Funnily enough I DIDN'T get that feeling about Mary.

As for why Garry is awesome? Well, there's obviously the protective big-brother feelings for Ib. He obviously cares for her right from the beginning in a very sweet way; he doesn't play games or pretend he doesn't like her, and he doesn't need to be warmed up or fixed in any way. He's adorable and caring right from the start. In short, he's a damn fine gentlemen.

After witnessing a terrifying amount of Garry/Ib fanart, I don't DARE look it up anymore. Why, Tumblr? WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?

I think what we like so much about Garry is that he's not...overdone, so to speak? He's not a cliché, not the useless, scaredy guy we all thought he'd be.
Garry is not a stereotype or a 'insert adjective'-character. He's just a nice person. He just cares that you're both okay.
I guess what I'm trying to say here is that we like him because he doesn't feel forced into the narrative or as a character. Whereas in other games there's the stoic, the hotblooded, the smart one, here he's not a certain 'kind' of person tied to only a handful of emotions.
He's just Garry.

I agree with Shii, about Garry. He isn't a stereotype and he truly cares about Ib, wanting her to get out even if he has to sacrifice himself.
There's something admirable about a man/teenager caring that much about someone even in such a short time. They had such a brother-sister bond that even I, in my initial response, thought that Garry was different from most.
Hell, my first mistake was not talking to the guy. Not only because of the bad ending, but because I missed out on a lot of his character. And even then if you don't talk to him a lot, Garry shines in his own way.
I have to tip my hat to the creators of Ib. They know their way around characters.

I always like Garry because, well, I suppose he's a good character. I think he endeared himself to me, though, when Ib collapsed and he took care of her. That made it sink in while Garry was obviously scared as I was, probably more, he was still a genuinely good person and willing to help you. That made me want to see him get through the game and live. Also, I liked his ramblings.
I like reading everyone else's opinions on this, it's interesting.

I think I remember reading somewhere that this was supposed to make Garry and Ib's relationship more brother-sister like and not...what the fandom did of it.
Then again, anything not said directly by the creators is just fandom-guessing.

I've mentioned it in Ozzo's LP, but even though Garry's speech was translated with that in mind, instead of thinking "Huh, Garry talks kind of girly," the first thing I thought was "Huh, Garry talks kind of British."

What? Garry's always blue and green, what is 'Dark Garry'?

I remember, quite a few times I've wondered in the back of my head if he were gay or just a slightly effeminant dude. But it matter so little it's hard to care. Gay, straight, asexual, it doesn't make me want to hug him and have him as a friend any less. The way he swings doesn't make him any less attractive either, heheh.

It's the same proble with the American dub of YuGiOh. In Japanese, Bakura's not Brittish, he just speaks politely. American localization translated that as Brittish. xD Apparently Brittish=Polite=Gay

Er, Fake Garry is a better name to call him, now that I think about it. And I'm probably wrong anyway, and that's just regular Garry.
You know when your about the step through the painting back home, a fake person usually comes to try to talk you out it? If both Garry and Mary are dead, then a Fake Garry comes to try and get you to stay. Some people draw Fake Garry with more muted grey colors, so that's why I assumed it was him.

I actually don't find Forgotten Portrait that sad, simply because I have a headcanon to help me survive that ending: Ib returns to the art gallery, years upon years later and finds Garry. She remembers everything and they're about the same age now! Yay! SHIPPING.

That actually reminds me of a fan-theory that I've seen tossed around that if you die in the gallery, you become a painting, thus evil. So the Fake Garry from the Forgotten Portait is actually just evil Garry. And, with that theory, some people speculate that Mary actually died in the gallery and went crazy. At one point in the game, you read a book describing a girl dying the in the gallery and some people think that it's actually describing Mary instead of Ib.
That, and that Garry's hair supposed to resemble a upside down rose, which is why it's kind of weird. I can see it.

I could see that, except Mary's allegedly the last work Guertena ever did. That implies Mary didn't become trapped in The Gallery the way Ib did; at least, not at the same particular gallery.

One of the books says that Guertena wanted to "put his soul" into his works. I think each painting in the gallery is supposed to represent a memory or an aspect of his personality, and Mary is the Murderous Yangire part (especially reinforced if the story with the key is a memoir.)
