Rapunzel was my Internet handle of choice from my first days online (if unavailable, I would stick a 452 on the end - ReBoot reference); I picked it because for most of my life, my hair was past my waist. I cut it shorter just after college, so it's a little disingenuous now.

Hilarious side note - my very first internet log-in back in the days of AOL was "Nute452" because 452 was my identification number in Airborne School.

A lot of us in the barracks all bought computers around the same time, and everyone was on AOL. One of the guys across the hall wrote a program that would spam someone with Instant Messenger traffic and knock them offline.

Whenever he'd do that, I would walk across the hall and punch him. Does that count?

I got mine... well.... I thought it would be funny to be Mrs. Widget since Mr. W has been posting as Mister Widget forever, here and at the other place (where I am registered as Ms Widget but have only posted two or three times). And we are like married and stuff. I didn't actually anticipate posting this much or I probably would have gone with something less... patriarchal. But no regrets!

I figured you both lived in a giant clock or something and tinkered with widgets all day. Like a force of widget nature rather than you only being a widget through association.

We have some real gems here. Some nice food-related usernames: Speaks With Bread, Supper's Ready. Pogue Mahone made me laugh when I looked it up (I saw an 'Irish pub' in New Zealand named Pog Mahones, so that made me curious.) And I've always liked the pun in Bill D's username.

Some trigger funny mental associations - there's a large Australian pharmaceutical company named CSL. (Incidentally, CSL, thanks for the explanation! Your username stuck in my mind ever since I first saw you around, iirc, the Paradox forums.)

QT3 had some good ones that don't seem to have made it over here - "Hahahabonk" springs to mind.

I miss Matt Bowyer 's old handle. That was one of the best non sequiturs I ever came up with.

Yep, that's the story behind my nickname, as well. It was one of a set of names I used way back in the dark ages of AOL free form role playing, and when I lost my overheaded (free) account, and switched to AIM, for some reason, Quatoria was the name that they let me keep. I could have just as easily ended up as Lowfyr, Jimmy The Hand, or some other random name my 12-year-old self thought was cool. This is what it stuck me with, and since nobody else ever uses the name, it's what I ended up with. I respond to Quat or Q almost as readily as my real name, these days.

I like Ingmar better, personally. Goes better with Sjofn.


EDIT: And while I initially picked 'Sjofn' because it was my DAoC skald's name, I stick with it because it is very rarely taken. <3

My nick name is a line from a movie, I have no idea what movie or what it's even about though. It was insanely late one night, I was at my friend's place after a party and was drunk out of mind and watching whatever happened to be on TV alone in his living room. All I remember was some guy ran up to a car an put a brief case in the trunk and closed it. Then another guy came up behind him, pointed a gun at the first man and said "The trunk, doctor." In my drunken stupor I thought this was the funniest thing I had ever heard a couple of my friends came out from wherever they were to ask me what was going on. Even though they were as drunk as I was they didn't find it funny.

My name is, uhh, my name and last initial. I can't recall why I started using it. It was around 2000 or thereabouts; before that I really didn't have any kind of a consistent online presence. For a while I used the handle "Critical" in various online games (mostly quake/2/3).

Actually now that I think about it I may have been using jeffd even earlier; I think I used to post on planetcrap back in the late nineties. Was there even a planetcrap in the late nineties? I know it was the first version of the site. At this point I'm honestly not sure, it all blurs together.

Have you read either of the sequels? The first sequel's not as action-oriented as the original. But the third installment, they move the whole franchise to America and it is So Bad It's Awesome.

I was Ryslin in many spots til I hit Wow , and that cascaded to Wyst. Somehow I still tend to use Ryslin for more talky forums and Wyst for the actual game forum. (Like say swtor). After time those that Knew me as both have been after me to combine.. I will probably change it to Wystlin soon.
Hopefully that will be the last damned time I have to change a name.

IIRC, version one came out in 1998 or so (I didn't find it until 2 or 3 I think). I believe I started lurking there 99-2000ish. So late 90s could be accurate.

So I googled my user name for fun (and profit?), I was kind of surprised that broken forum came up as the fifth entry.

I used to be SOMETHING ELSE all over the internet.
But then things happened on another forum where I dealt with people that were legitimately insane and hunting me down via my username to harass me (they were kind of really insane, you see. the kinds of people that obsessively dislike you, so they spend hours of their time looking up everything you have ever used in your life and harassing you on it). So then I turned into MulMizu, which just "water" in both Korean and Japanese, since those are the languages I'm focusing on learning as a hobby and I like water.

Recently, though, I've been going back to some [redacted] things and either changing my username or deleting the accounts.

EDIT: had to get rid of the old username. Even if the post reminding me to change it was made in jest, I kinda actually have to take it seriously.
