  1. wisbechlad Hard Cider Gal

I started off as either okonumiyaki or wisbechboy/ wisbechlad as standard username back in the early days. Okonumiyaki though while a delicious meal was somewhat too long, and Okonu made me sound Nigerian/ Igbo, which was often not a good thing. So wisbechlad it has remained

I'm just using my first name. For years I went under "Sorcha Ravenlock" but I used that name in so many games that I got fed up with it. Besides that, the spelling of my name is unusual enough that it isn't taken that often.

I, uh, think I was listening to the Pogues when I picked my screen name. Who knows? It's a mystery to everyone.

It is funny how a chosen username informs my mental image of the poster though. I mean, I just assume Lizard King is a tortured musician/poet with lovely hair and probably drinks too much Jack Daniels. Similarly, BlueJackalope has a wonderful pair of floppy ears and antlers. And he's blue!

Source of name is obvious, pedestrian and cliched. Was first used on a game company board where folks engaged in a bit of role play. Version has been increased for each board migration. Due to someone stealing the name, once appeared as OZ First Wizard Deluxe but c'mon, that's pretty pretentious. OZ 3.0 registered and made five or six posts over there, so upgrade was deemed required.
  12. balut Magister Mundi Elyscape

I use balut because I am, in fact, a slow-roasted fertilized duck egg.

Too many people think it's pronounced "Baloo," like the bear, or "ball-nut," like it's some pre-pubescent's funny screen name. Fuck that noise.

  14. Creole Ned Being Nice For A Week

I'm lazy so I'll just paste directly from my blog:

    Who is Creole Ned?
Creole Ned is the online persona I created in 1997 to play games on what was then called the Internet Gaming Zone (now MSN Games). A friend and I had whiled away many an hour playing games like Duke Nukem 3D and Age of Empires over modem (how quaint!) but yearned for more. The IGZ required you to create a name that would be used in the various game rooms. My friend chose Sexy Nancy because he thought it would be fun to roleplay a hot chick who was into gaming. I chose Creole Ned for reasons unclear to me to this day. I wanted some kind of adjective-noun combo to go along with Sexy Nancy and after not much thought “Creole Ned” just popped into my head. I have no particular love for creole food, though I do like it.

As for my friend, it turned out that Microsoft did not like people describing themselves as sexy and so his alter-ego became Sweet Nancy, which if anything was more disturbing.

I am me. I sometimes write journalism under that name. At some point at QT3 I changed to my full name, then I posted something very personal and sorta regretted it - when we started here, I decided to go back to the pseudonym a lot of people stuill knew.
    Also I'm dunk.

  16. Bahimiron Already Beat BF's New Expansion

I've covered some of this on my QT3 podcast, but I've been Bahimiron for years and years and years. Far longer than the shitty band, goddammit! And I can provide proof if it is requested of me! I've been Bahimiron since usenet, have used it on most forums where I've been active and it's been my XBL gamertag since the first day gamertags were available. Which was always fun in multiplayer games when people would shout, "Hey, Bahoomy...hoomama...boohimba... hey, Mister B!" It's just something where I know I'll never be in competition with someone for an email or an alias. That said, just over a year ago it was used by someone to stalk me, collect information on me and read posts I'd made on another forum which were then used against me. It lead to a lot of drama and it's got me seriously considering dropping the identity. Hell, for the longest time I didn't want to simply cos I figured it'd be very difficult to adjust, but on BF it might be easier since people are IDed as much by avatars as much as names.

Fun fact: before I got a PS3 I set up a Bahimiron account on Sony. Then when I got a PS3 I couldn't remember my PW or what email I used with it. So on PSN and nowhere else, I am Shichiriron. Which is not easier to say than Bahimiron. On reddit I decided not to associate with my main handle and I went with matecarefor, which is a sort of pidgeony way to say Maitre Carrefour. I wish I'd just gone with maitrecarrefour though, cos matecarefor looks like a weird sex term.

MulMizu you might want to censor your post to remove the name you used to be known by, just in case your stalker might one day randomly punch it into Google and see it lead here.

Oh I'm reminded of an ex, who's user name for everything was something derivative like sexy gurl, or some mishmashed spelling of it. I didn't think anything of it for when it was her OkCupid name (those names are dumb anyway), but she decided to take up WoW, and went with that same name. And then complained when random idiots kept messaging her, wanting to do sext chats or whatever.

I've been using mxlm (two letters from my first name, two from my last. I bet you can't guess what my first name is) since, uh, junior high. In voice this becomes mx, which Anti-Bunny usually spells out as ehm ecks.

So the schism happened and this board was created and I ignored it completely because I expected its lifespan to be measured in weeks. Bunny eventually harassed me into signing up and I went with his favored spelling because this place was totally going to die shortly thereafter and I wasn't going to participate much or at all anyway, so why not amuse him? Also it annoyed Inigima, which was a bonus.

    Oops.

I used to be SqueakyNinja, but apparently, that's a fairly common name. I was quite saddened when it had already been taken on xbox live way back in the days of MechAssault. So I dropped the Ninja portion and in a moment of idiotic inspiration replaced it with Foo, because I had the stereo on and Everlong was playing.

Let me just quickly say this about some other people's usernames. I pronounce Nute as "Newt" in my head for some reason (hope you don't mind), I pronounce Sjofn differently everytime I see it and I like "Speak with Bread" because I really like bread.

Now onto myself.... when I was 7 or something, I was instructed to sign up to my school's website or something, I had to create an account and I needed a password. Being 7, I went with "tigers" because, hey, I thought tigers were cool. I used tiger for my password in everything and my username would just be my full name. I eventually realised this was stupid and came up with a much smarter (IMO) password but I didn't want my username to be just my full name anymore.... so I added tigers to the end of my first name.

I am the best at names. Clearly.

I highly recommend using different passwords for different things. That way, if your password for one site is compromised, you're still safe everywhere else. I use LastPass to help me with that, but there are other solutions (e.g. 1password, KeePass).

I agree with Elyscape. It really is the best way. Though you don't need any stupid fancy programs. Just use the name of the site. My banking password is tdbankcom, my PayPal password is paypalcom and my Broken Forum password is brokenforumcom. It's the perfect crime! Crime preventative measure, that is! ;)

In the case of LastPass and KeePass (not sure on 1password), you can put them on a flash drive. Just make sure to take the drive with you, and you're good to go. Not the most convenient option, admittedly, but it works.

If you have internet access you can also just login to the LastPass site and access your info there without installing anything, or use the mobile app and access your info with your cell or whatever.

for LastPass you can also log into the site lastpass.com and manually copy the relevant password as needed. There's probably a better way, but that's what I do when I'm logging in somewhere else. Easy enough.

    Edit: what he said. doh.

I have also heard soft-jin, so-fine and my favorite "S. J." I am pretty sure my WoW guild was glad I mostly raided as Sofi the Death Knight instead of Sjofn the Warrior. :P
