I've been wondering why no one brought this up for a while now, this thread turned into "Tell us where your screen name came from!" in the minds of many posters. I only cared about THAT question one time, way before this thread. I couldn't understand why Marly became Quackers. The answer was great, it quacked me up.

It's a wonderful story of love, newlyweds, outcasts from QT3 (although I think neither of them were actually banned), Bahimiron is still allowed to post there...BUT HE DOES'NT! Because of all that awful stuff that happened over there. Marly used to write offensive (but funny!) diaries about Skyrim on QT3. I thought they were sort of funny, but she went a bit too heavy on the eff word for some people. Cause you know, fuck is funny every now and then. But Fuck fuckity fuck fuck Marly used that word a LOT! So her diary got eviscerated by some people in the QT3 comments section, all hell broke loose on an unrelated festering wound at least five years in the making, and many many people were banned from that place (nothing to do with her). Did I mention that she was at the height of her power!!!!......and then was struck down. She and the other QT3 refugees began posting here on Broken Forum, and it became what we have today. Oh, did I mention she lost a bet to her now husband? A bet stating he would give her her nickname here on BF? That's sort of how it happened.

Having just got my first 2400 baud modem I was trying to choose a BBS handle. At the time I was playing a lot of Rock N Roll Racing on the SNES with a friend. I picked Locust, named after the Locust Jump Jets you could equip cars with in that game.

Later it morphed into Lokust when I started playing Everquest and Locust was not an allowed name :( I used both for a while but Lokust is what kinda stuck.

Since there is also a pronunciation subtopic to this thread I would like to say one thing:

Origin story time!
Back on QT3, and pretty much everywhere online since 2000 or so, my handle was MightyNute. The source was twofold - when I had my first RL meetup with someone I'd met online, I was wearing a red baseball cap and was a bit overdue for a haircut so I had a shock of hair sticking out the front and she commented that I looked like Mighty Max. Which is an awesome cartoon.
So later that year, I started dating this Australian gal who, as Aussies do, added a -y to my name affectionately and thus "Matt" became "Matty" - but with her accent in talking to people, folks would look at me and go "Your name is 'Mighty'?"
Finally I started just saying "Close enough" and anywhere where "Nute" was too short to use as a user name, I used "MightyNute". I still by default use "Mighty" as a first name on any online form that I don't take seriously. I have semi-seriously even debated naming a kid/clone that at some point.

Only if its middle name is "Silly."

Sigh. No one will ever like my screen name. I'm almost Nute but not quite. Utterly boring.
