In this my very first LP, I brought to you all a game which nearly wracks my brain without the walkthrough.

"The game centers around Professor Hershel Layton, and his self-styled apprentice, Luke Triton, investigating the fictional village of St. Mystere about an artifact known as the Golden Apple, an heirloom that the late Baron had left as a test to determine who would receive his fortune after his death. The residents of St. Mystere particularly enjoy brain teasers, and will often ask the player to help solve them by using the system's touchscreen to submit answers, in exchange for their cooperation in the search."

    (Source: Wikipedia)

Without further ado, let me explain about how we will play! In this LP, we will do it visual-novel style: We're a penpal of Luke, without him knowing how we look like, and incidentally involved in the journey of him and his beloved Professor Layton. My lovely dice-roll has rolled the gender of Male, and now what we need is a name. And possibly a face. And age. Any recommendation?

    And no, he's not bald

Well, congratulations for you first LP!
I also love the Layton saga, so I approve of this thread. In my opinion for this LP you could leave the various puzzles here for a bit to let the others that read this topic try to solve them, and maybe putting the solution as a spoiler... but this is your topic, so do as you like XD

For the name... Tom Riddle would be good since we're talking about puzzles :P

I approve of Tom Riddle. *thumbs up*
  4. James Birdsong Beardy Magnificence

I have no certain suggestion for name. I do suggest this face.

I'm not sure how we're supposed to vote for a face? Is there a face customization system in this game?
  6. James Birdsong Beardy Magnificence

I am pretty sure there is not. But for narrative purposes we are voting for name, age, and face

    eeeep people actually replied o////o

Ah, sorry. I mean like a visualization; for example, Cliff from Harvest Moon. Should I search for a few suggestions and then take votes from them?

holy crap Clamp I missed you so much.

Thanks for the suggestion, Faust :'D I'll take it~
  8. The Loom Child I Pretty Much Live Here

I say, unless you actually plan to play the character AS HP's Tom Riddle, you choose an original name, as the name will instantly conjure up the Potter character-- but hell, who's to say you can't use Riddle as the last name? John Riddle, perhaps? I only say this because it looks like you're pretty serious about roleplaying the lead in this LP straight (which I think is fantastic)!

As for the face... I'll go with:

Which would put him at about 14, 15 years old?
  9. James Birdsong Beardy Magnificence

    Yes have a vote.

    - John Riddle: 2 votes

    - Nokoru Imonoyama: 1 vote

    - Minegishi Kazuya I have no shame

    - And last... Loom, I can't see your image nor load it in another tab... OTL

Yeek-- it's the actor from Almost Famous (at the age he was in that movie), the main kid, Patrick Fugit. But I can understand going with a more cartoony/anime approach!

  13. James Birdsong Beardy Magnificence

Okay we can admit the name Patrick Fugit fits very well in the Professor Layton universe.

And now for something completely different...

Mycroft because we have the brains for solving mysteries, but won't do any of the legwork.

And I guess Riddle still works as a last name.

I'm totally blind about the movie; which helps in not imitating his personality. And Myroft Riddle is just so-- I don't know, perfect. I'll see how it goes from here though, can't update 'till I'm done with final test tomorrow at 4 x_x

Professor Layton! I will be watching this thread closely!

Add another for Mycroft Riddle, that name is too awesome not to use.
  20. Charico Magister Mundi Elyscape

I am so glad you're doing this! The professor Layton games have a special place in my heart, even though I am absolute horrid at all puzzles except the logical ones and sliding block ones.

Mycroft Riddle is the best name.

The Sherlock fandom is the best. If I had suggested this name before Sherlock came out, there probably would have been about two people who got the joke.
  22. Tewi Despondent Fancybear

Woooo, Professor Layton! Those precious hours of puzzle-solving and village-navigating and tapping every pixel of the background to find hint coins I never could bear to use anyway. <3

And that one single moment of hatlessness.

Will be keeping an eye on this!

Mycroft Riddle seems a good compromise. But aren't you overthinking about all of this? The game is about Layton and Luke, "we" are just the reader of the letter that Luke sends us to tell the story... we aren't a character of the game XD

-casually watches the thread then goes back to playing Unwound Future- I generally have a lot of trouble with the really easy puzzles. Mostly because I can never bring myself to go for the obvious answer. It's a puzzle! It's not supposed to be obvious!

Tossing in a vote for Mycroft. And for a change of pace, I vote we use this version:

...I wish they'd bring over the Layton/Ace Attorney crossover

Yeah, but aren't LPs more fun when the narration has a bit more personality than just, "So then, this happened."? :P

Anyway, MYCROFT RIDDLE. BEST NAME EVER.
  26. Charico Magister Mundi Elyscape

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that they're almost definitely bringing the Layton/Ace Attourney game over. But then again it may just be wishful thinking.
Edit: So my post won't be as stupidly boring and unrelated here is an English subbed version of one o f the trailers!

Seriously? The Sherlock Holmes stories have been everywhere since forever; people who know Mycroft from the books most definitely vastly outnumber those who know him from the (relatively obscure) TV show. xD

Eh, Mycroft is a fairly obscure character from the original novels though, he's much more important in Sherlock. I mean, I knew about Sherlock Holmes and Watson before I'd even read the series, but Mycroft? I didn't even know that Sherlock had a brother, much less what he was like, until I'd read the story he appeared in. As far as I know, he only appears in one story and it's not one of the more famous ones either. I'd say Irene Adler was much more well known than Mycroft, at least outside of the Sherlock fandom. I could be wrong. Mycroft may have played a more important role in some of the other adaptations, but he's pretty minor in the short stories.
  38. James Birdsong Beardy Magnificence

Hm I suppose that is a fair point.

Always love the little animation of Layton-mobile.

I can't figure out how to make space for the love of my life, so we'll go with his surname instead. Look at how happy they greeted him. And apparently Riddle has yaoi hand.

Mycroft Riddle, 17 years old (for the sake of RPG cliche), having a face between Patrick Fugit and Mycroft Holmes. He apparently woken up in a wood with only his clothes on and a small black sling bag on his body. Confused and tattered with small bruises, he began to search his way out, slowly but surely making it to the road nearby. And of course he has no idea at all about how he could ended up there. Plot holes, everyone?

Meanwhile, Hershel Layton and his self-proclaimed number one apprentice Luke Triton is slowly making their way to their supposed-to-be destination...

A secret? Then why the hell are you telling me about all of it, Luke? w(OAOw)
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the downside of not being able to cast Fidelious Charm.

And after that brief introduction, here comes a cute animated cutscene of them.

    [IMG][IMG]
    Oh, Layton, you.

Layton: Oh, no! This is an altogether unique and exciting situation, and it has piqued my intellectual curiosity. But I suppose it would be best to explain the case before we arrive at our destination.

So Luke, like a good puppy, has followed Layton to the countryside while being perfectly blind about the whole situation. Good boy.

Behold, sudden appearance of an important character who had apparently passed away and will not give us a clue besides one or two, or maybe three at all!

    [IMG][IMG]
The old treasure-hunting style. And Layton is curious about the Golden Apple. Hey, it somehow reminds me about one chapter in Detective Conan.

But in the end, none of those treasure hunters get the hidden treasure, because it's whereabouts is hidden and what the Golden Apple looks like is apparently unknown. Some clues you have there, Layton... And yet he still curious about it as well as I do. And Layton, of course, didn't know what the treasure is as well.

    His puzzle sense is tingling!

    [IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG]
As bad as he tries to deny it, Layton sounds more like a detective to me than the Archeology Professor he is. Too bad, Layton.

And then Layton proceed to ask Luke for directions in the map given by Lady Dahlia. NOW of all time? Then we've been driving blindly up until now? O_o

    FIRST. FACEPALM.

Luke, my boy, you've been holding that map since the start of the opening scene. And you just really looked at it now. I disappointed in you, boy. And that, is a map I'm the Map, I'm the Map, I'm the Map!.

So Lady Dahlia; whoever she is, decides to test Layton and his apprentice before they can get to the village. Layton then orders Luke to solve it as a warm-up. That's a cue for our very first puzzle, guys! Ready? But really, this puzzle seems more fit for a 7 years old or something...

Reward: 10 coins and 10 Picarats (our game's money currency)
