Yeah, horoscopes are big there too (they use the same signs - Gemini, Scorpio, etc.), but it's a similar thing.

Here's a different description of Type A and Type B

I think that blood type A personality is actually similar to what's know a type A personality here. I don't think blood type B corresponds with a type B personality in the same way though.

That's pretty much exactly the opposite of how I've always heard blood type B described.

Edit: Actually, I think I may have bolded more of that description than I should have, but I've never head blood type B described as planners. I've always understood them to be very spontaneous types of people.
  4. Hanacker Armchair Designer

Yeah, random google searches turn up all kinds of descriptions and a lot of them don't match or are even contradictory. So I dunno.

I may be biased since it's Sailor Moon, but I think this site has fairly good descriptions of the various blood types.
  6. Hanacker Armchair Designer

So my wife says Type A seems serious and they act nice, but sometimes they're just pretending to be nice. Type B is selfish and they do what they want, but they're not fake. Type O is adaptable. Type AB is a mix of Type A and B so they can be confused and/or confusing.

I remember from somewhere that type AB is undesirable because they are "two-faced"?

Now I'm curious about my blood type.
Really? I'm under the impression there are still a lot of people who talk to each other in their dialects. It's just something that happens.

All those dialects *_____* Watch Cantonese tv shows? They have subs, it kind of works. Or if you have a friend that knows Cantonese, talk to them in it?

I'd totally offer to teach you but I'm horribly bad at making any sort of teaching plans. Haha.

Yeaaahhh, I watched a ton of Cantonese dramas when I was younger, which is how I even have a rudimentary understanding of the dialect. I haven't watched any in a looong time though.

And the problem with talking to friends who speak Cantonese is that everybody at my school just talked in Mandarin all the time! It was cool to hear them talk into different dialects to their family members or other people who already knew the dialect though.

After I graduated and went to college in the US I slowly lost touch with all my Chinese-speaking friends. The only friends I talk to regularly nowadays just speak English. LOL.

My mom actually is kinda trying to do it! She knows all four of the dialects I mentioned, so sometimes she'll just start rambling away in some dialect or other and then look expectantly at me like I'm supposed to understand it. And then she waits for me to ask before she explains it, even when I'm making confused faces at her. And then whenever I throw out a random common phrase in a dialect, she'll look at me with a face of mock surprise, as if I'M A TOTAL IDIOT WHO DOESN'T UNDERSTAND A SINGLE LICK OF THE DIALECT IN QUESTION.

tl;dr I know she means well, but my mom can be annoying at times. orz

Hey, I wasn't offended. Ok, well, a little offended, I do like to get some credit for being clever, but my vanity is beside the point. I just think that setting the bar high and expecting people to pass is the best way to keep a good community going because a joke is no fun if you have to default to explaining that, yes, this is a joke. And while it's most obvious with humor it works the same with pretty much every argument. If you respect your audience and have faith that they know what you're talking about you can get to the heart of the matter without wasting time.

watch more! I don't know what's good either to be honest, it's been ages since I watched anything. NOW I AM TEMPTED to watch stuff I watched when I was little. eeep.

Awww that sucks! I uh, miss Chinese once in a while and so I find Chinese stuff to watch. I have Chinese (Mandarin-speaking) friends from high school that I somewhat talk to on skype. My city is also full of international students. But, my friends tend to speak English. Mhm.

Your mum's language skills is super boss! but that is a bit troubling =( All the best with it because Cantonese is amazingly colloquial and just interesting.

That's really dangerous. What if you were in an accident or something and needed a blood transfusion quickly? You might be given the wrong bloodtype, no? Having a card on you that says your blood type or heck, just knowing your blood type would be really useful in that situation. :<
  20. Lizzy Magister Mundi Elyscape

Actually, it's a requisite to sample your blood and test it before giving you a transfusion. The process takes only a few seconds, so it's no big deal.
But yeah, I'd advise to know your blood type just in case.

While it is true that anyone can receive O-, that is also the rarest type of blood, aka really difficult to obtain.
People with AB+ are the lucky ones since they can receive any kind of blood without inconveniences.

Only in matters of absolute emergency. There is always every attempt to match blood type if possible and not use up all your O-neg because if an O-neg person comes in, that's the only kind of blood you can give them.

This varies wildly by ethnic group. In the US, O negative is the most common of Rh negative blood types (just like O positive is the most common of Rh positive.) In general here, Rh positive blood types are about 6 times as common as Rh negative. So O- is rare compared to O+ or A+, but not compared to anything else, and is twice or more as common as other non-A Rh negative blood types.

Amongst Asians Rh- is really really rare compared to people of European descent so the numbers would be very different in Japan - the rarity of it probably is why that antigen hasn't made it into the folk mythology around blood type really.

I just remembered that in old times, one of the supposed 'cures' for people with a certain mental illness was to join their circulatory system with that of a cow and let the blood transfer to one another.

I recall it was to treat people with symptoms like panic, or intense rage. It was believed that, since the cow is a 'pacific' animal, transferring blood from it to the patient would have a calming effect.
Of course, most if not all of those patients died.

All this talk about blood is creeping me out. You're making me think of Benjamin Rush and how they thought the human body has more blood than it actually has and Rush's blood letting policies that told them to let more blood than we now know is in the body and uuuuuhhhhh...

The part about condoms had me in hysterics. I'm not sure if that makes me immature or just easily amused (or both)... XD

I don't know my blood type either, but according to this I think I have traits of both A, B and AB. It's similar with horoscopes. I'm an Aquarius apparently, but I don't completely fit into an Aquarius' supposed personality traits. So yeah, it's all superstition imo, but it can be good for a bit of fun.

    re: Condom

Same. I'm not sure about the safety of that diamond-studded one though. Blood type categories contain too large of a sample size in each to get a correct reading of a person's personality. Japan just likes to jump on various things (condoms--everything in that country turns into a fetish)

Astrology seems like it'd be more accurate since it's much more specific (the non-magazing horoscope variety at least) but the first system was written up in...Babylon and since then, if it was accurate, the heavens (okay, I know I've been reading too much Shakespeare when that's the first word that pops into my head) have shifted so it wouldn't be accurate now. They showed us a lot of Bill Nye the Science Guy in middle school.

The description of Cancer is actually pretty similar to my personality though. At any rate, astrology is something fun to read about and the profiles are a good place to get inspiration for characters.

I don't care if I'm late to the party, dammit. Born and raised in NJ, but moved to CA 11 years ago (oh my God, ELEVEN YEARS AGO):

    a) Soda, anything else is Wrong
    b) garage sale, although I accept other people saying yard sale
    c) sneakers, "tennis shoes" is something that would make me go "wat"
    d) If I'm not using the specific number, I say highway, although I am starting to say "freeway" more
    e) a sub, which Ingmar makes fun of me for, because he is a jerk
    f) porch, although I would not look confused at someone saying "stoop"
    g) firefly, lightning bug
    h) shopping cart

I also tend to wait on lines instead of in them, which confuses basically everyone, but they can bite me.
