(Copying the release tracking thread over here too for the V20 update)

You know that oblivion mod list and automatic installer? I made one for Fallout: New Vegas. There's about 50 mods this time.

Short version: I've written a collection of batch files that will take about 30 mods and automatically install them for you. My goal here is to enable someone who knows absolutely nothing about Fallout: New Vegas modding to be able to install and use some key high-quality hand-picked mods with the absolute minimum amount of work. If I can automate it, I have.

To honor the licensing and redistribution agreements in everyone's mods, I don't redistribute anything; you still have to download it all yourself. I just install it for you and fix the load order once you've got it. If you have a fallout3nexus.com subscription, you can download a lot of it automatically; otherwise you'll have to click everything. The load order is entirely conflict-free, near as I can tell.

The dust storms from Nevada Skies are a sight to behold.

Fiddling with it you may want to disable Monster Mod; I'd forgotten how damn hard that is.

Could really use some troubleshooting, as following the instructions from scratch has given an error at step 26:

This file does not exist in the installation directory, and yes I have followed all the instructions exactly, yes it was a clean install, yes everything was done precisely to the letter.

EDIT: I am an idiot who makes assumptions instead of reading instructions, disregard.

Oh, never mind. It's because WinRAR is mandatory. Wow, hidden $30 cost for a mod pack. NICE.

    Could you elaborate?

Apparently to get WinRAR from the link provided, you either have to give your personal information to spammers and list sellers, or pay $30. It was my bad, I assumed that having the actual program used for 7-zip files was sufficient, served me right for not reading that the pack required WinRAR specifically. I believe I have an old install .exe on a backup drive somewhere.

Alternative: open up 00eSetVariables.cmd in Notepad and make the following changes:

    Change:
    SET WINRARDIR=C:\Program Files\WinRAR
to point to wherever you have 7-Zip installed, likely C:\Program Files\7-Zip

    Change:
    SET WINRARCMD="%WINRARDIR%\winrar.exe" x -o+ -ibck -ilog"%~dp0Results-Winrar.txt"
    to
    SET WINRARCMD="%WINRARDIR%\7z.exe" x -y >>"%~dp0Results-Winrar.txt"

    You're welcome.

This is definitely pushing me closer to actually loading up New Vegas. I tried it immediately after Skyrim and it was too much of a similar thing.

Whoa, when did winrar go spamware? Christ. I'll replace it with 7z on the next update.

You can usually find archived older versions of winrar, without the crapware, on cnet and such as well.

Yeah, that was one of the reasons I'd switched to 7-zip on my most recent PC rebuild. No worries, though. Found an archived version and everything seems to be running smoothly. At least, 01install.cmd is pinging at me a lot.

Is there anything I need to know about attempting to doctor up a steam version of the game with this? (is FONV steam only?) Clean install?
  14. Jason McCullough Keeper of the Elemental Materials

Isn't Steam the only version of the game? Yeah, you want a clean install.

Got everything up and running - Jason, I don't even want to think about how complicated all this was to put together. Great job.
  16. Jason McCullough Keeper of the Elemental Materials

It was easy! The original Oblivion one was a nightmare, but once I had the template set up it only took 20 hours or so to build.

Jason got so involved in Oblivion that, if I recall correctly, at one point he did (or talked about) a play-through as a mage starting with nothing, not even clothes. I loves me some Cyrodil, but that's far more dedication and hours than I ever had.

The clothes just held her back and reduced her carrying capacity for loot. Strangely Oblivion caps your spell effectiveness at 95% if you wear any real armor too. So nudity is EFFICIENT.

Presumably 3, as it's based on the same engine.
