Justified. Turns out it is kinda modern day Deadwood, but better.

Okay, I missed something. What did Errol due to earn him his banishment from Nobles? Was it being unable to get Boyd to pull off the bank heist?

It is pretty safe to assume that having one's arm chopped off (without immediate cauterization) is fatal. Blood loss and all that.

He was mad at him for instigating the conflict between Boyd and Quarles earlier in the season. (Remember when Limehouse jumped his case and gave him another chance?) Limehouse likes to work behind the scenes and Errol lost his trust.

Fantastic finish to a great season. That last line was devestating. I'm really going to miss this show.

I suppose I have to rewatch the entire season to catch the Father-Son theme. Somehow, I think it's there, what with Limehouse/Errol, Theo/Quarles, who's supposed to protect who, and all. I suppose it didn't strike home all the way until that devastating last scenes, and I'm unsure whether that's a mark of great writing or really obscure writing.

It's still a fantastic end of the season, a season in which it seems Raylan may have won, but lost everything that would actually mean anything to him. It's a great place to put him for next season; loose, without any tether, and probably no idea what to do with his life. It's enough to make wish they figure out what to do with Wynona next season.

    Also, more Tim please.
  6. Quackers Magister Mundi Elyscape

I knew as soon as Arlo came into the bar that the line at the end was going to happen and it was heartbreaking. The end for Quarles was kind of meh. He was a really awesome character, I kind of wish they'd given him a bit more to do and a little bit of a more dignified out.

Though I was really, really hoping that they'd Rita Wynona. She has nothing to do. Blergh. Babies ruin everything!

    And yeah, more Tim!

The whole thing with Wynona is the writers just not knowing what to do with her (said in an interview earlier this season.) Maybe they'll figure it out over the break.

According to the show runner, Wynona is only going to be in like three episodes next year. They apparently have figured out what to do with her and less is more.

I was completely caught off guard by the limb lopping and it was awesome. I enjoyed the whole season. I would say the dialog in the "Watching Detectives" (?) episode was the best of the entire series. While the season may not have been quite as cohesive as the others, the characters and dialog more than made up for any weaknesses. Quarrles was a great character that was perfectly cast.

My favorite part of the arm lopping is when Quarles, somewhat dazed, reaches out to Raylan to take his arm back. Raylan, sneering at him, turns a little to get it out of his reach. I LOL'd.

I wasn't sure whether that was supposed to be serious or not. I mean, it didn't stop me from laughing at it, but I still couldn't tell.

I laughed as well. My partner, who has watched none of the season until the last episode, looked at me like I was insane. Just fantastic acting between Olyphant and McDonough.
  13. Athryn Despondent Fancybear

I also laughed, especially at the "disarmed" quip.

THe thing is, it could have easily come off as over the top if not played properly by both guys. Raylan's sorta disbelief and confusion (Did that really just happen!?!?) and Quarrles' staggering reaction (Hey, I think I may still need that) worked.

EDIT: Above totally stolen and taken to Qt3. Proper credit to Jason T given. :)

I loved the expression on Raylan's face in that. As someone said the "holy shit did that just fucking happen?" followed by the "Are you fucking serious, you still can't have it."

Yaaaaaaay! I hope we get more Tim and Rachel (especially Tim, his lines were GOLDEN last season).
  24. Brian Seiler Worked The System

Yost would like to do more with them, but in the first two episodes.....eh. Apparently Rachel briefly appears in the first and Tim is somewhat involved in the second. This year is supposed to be a touch more episodic in general with a larger mystery, so maybe they'll get a bigger role later on.
  25. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

You've already seen the first two eps of season 4?!
  26. Brian Seiler Worked The System

I know people who have. Or listen to them, anyway. I suppose that the screeners are probably up wherever people steal crap from, but I'm not sure why you'd bother with doing that.

Ah, fair enough, totally jealous of those who've seen it, but I don't mind waiting.

Oh, show. I miss you so hard when you go away.

I like Patton Oswalt. He's the right combination of believable and goofy. It would have been easy to go bigger with that part. As it stands, he's funny, but still real within the universe of the show.

I don't like the preacher so much. He's a touch wispy and small. After Mags and the combination of Neal McDunnough and Mykelti Williamson, he just doesn't seem particularly there. I'll be interested to see how that plays out, but unless they're planning to make him all Jere Burns intimidating, I kind of hope he's not the villain. Also, I thought that snake handlers 1) weren't the sort of thing that you mix with traveling revivalism; and 2) didn't get the snakes out until partway through the service. Of course, I'm mostly basing that on episodes of the television, so I'm probably wrong.

I'm a little confused by the information I was given that Raylan was supposed to have gone to seed this season (because advance viewers thought it was odd that he was still ripped as hell when he was supposed to be in that state). He looked the same to me. Maybe it's just been too long since the last season.

So, the basic pitch is that the season is a little more episodic but the bag thing plays out over the course. Now, the same people that told me that are the ones that told me that Givens was supposed to be a little out of shape, so maybe that's bullshit, but either way, I'm kind of interested to know what the what on that, which is different from their reaction (they weren't much concerned). I actually like that, because it suggests to me that if the show does it right, they'll be focusing away from the mystery for most of each episode, and that's probably for the best, because I tend to be more interested in mysteries when they're not the entire thrust of the story every episode. That way lies The Killing.

I liked Oswalt, but he seemed a little bit goofy and almost too comedic. His accent was fading in and out a little bit.

This show gives me word boners. I'm guessing that this is the sort of ecstatic transformative experience that other people get from Mamet shows (whereas I found The Unit entertaining enough, but you could practically hear old Dave there reach up their ass and work their mouths like little puppets). I get that nobody actually talks like this, but christ - they ought to. I'll even forgive the show for taking the obviousest way on that character at the end of the episode (it's what I expected from the beginning) because I just like the talking so very much.

I also really do hope that Abby Miller parleys this turn into some more work, because I quite like her. She's like a goofier Amy Acker. I suspect (hope, really - I don't want the show to burn the character out, and he's had it twice in a row now) that she'll be doing the Dewey duty this season and providing some comic relief when the rest of the show isn't busy being hilarious in other ways.
