Isn't 1300 or 1250 the starting ELO? I've yo-yo'd in the 1200-1400 range for a long time and I see a very wide range of experience levels. If people say they are newer I just try to help coach them, which may be akin to the blind leading the blind, but it seems nicer then the above reaction.

It just sounds like your typical spazzes in solo queue, perhaps exacerbated by the fact you're playing seeding matches so Riot can determine your proper elo. Whenever I find myself annoyed by my teammates, I'm often able to trace the problem back to pressing Enter in the first place. Just don't do it, man.
  3. AaronSofaer Magister Mundi Elyscape

The ranked matchmaking system is designed to have you eventually end up at the "correct" elo for your skill level.

If anyone complains, just immediately put them on ignore/mute. Problem solved.

Your first ten (?) games are going to be rough, yes, until you get out of placement. Being around 1200 in general is a mess, though, due to the mix of idiots and really good players you mentioned.
  5. Inigima Hard Cider Gal

Yeah don't ever tell people you're new in games like that. You will instantly become a scapegoat for everything bad that happens no matter what it is or whose fault it is.

^^^ I like to respond to any variation of "have fun" with "I HATE FUN"

That isn't true. Some games have friendly communities. Not that there aren't a few bad apples, but I've had good community experiences in Guns of Icarus Online and The Secret World.

In League of Legends, though, depending on my mood, I may just communicate in pings.

The friendliness of a community is inversely proportional to the importance of each player on the team to victory.

I would say that's true of my TSW experience -- normal groups are very friendly, Nightmare groups less so -- but in GoI everyone's pretty key and I've never yelled at, nor been yelled at by, a pubbie.

In general I would guess that theory normally holds pretty true. I think the size of the community probably matters as well. GoI is very niche.
  11. Farnsworth Magister Mundi Elyscape

Sorry. I was actually talking about LoL games, especially since the community in this kind of games seems to be so different. However, I thought the fact that a ) this is the LoL thread and b) you already used "games" not as an indicator of different titles, but different LoL matches made this clear.
  12. malphigian Oh, Come On

It's funny though, and might be an outgrowth of where I am at normal games, but I've noticed a *huge* improvement in the community since the positive honor system thing went in. Believe it or not, most games are pretty well mannered. I even found that to be true in most of the ranked games I've played so far.

I wouldn't think the half-assed social engineering Riot is trying would work, but it appears to be having some kind of effect.

Yeah I have noticed that in general most people are much more friendly since they started that initiative.
  14. ehm ecks Armchair Designer

I've heard exactly six non-BF people use voicechat in GoI. Of those, two were raging douchebags, one was a semi-douchebag, and one did nothing but broadcast random stuff from soundboards and the like.

Voice, sure. (And my own voice jerk quotient is lower than yours.) Text is pretty friendly, people don't scream at you if you suck.
  16. Cougar Fresh Meat

The single best thing LoL did to improve the community was to default /all chat to OFF. I've never been happier. The honor initiatives helped too, but not having to be subjected to jerks on the other team, or to jerks on our team making excuses/complaining about a team mate to the OTHER team has been wonderful :)

  21. peacedog Worked The System

I started looking over some of the new tiems and item changes at the preview site. I'm not so sure that DFG isn't still as strong as before. Triforce and Athene got nerfed. Void and LW only had their pen values reduced by 5%.

Void and LW changes come on top of a complete re-work of how Penetration values are calculated. It's not a nerf so much as readjusting things to be the way they were before (only time will tell how the new Penetration system will effect things, it's definitely one of the areas I expect further patch changes in before the start of Season 3).

Deathfire got it's CDR back which means it'll start coming back into people's builds regardless of what the active does (It's the only offensive item that gives CDR bar Nashor's Tooth). Again though, like quite a few things being implemented, it looks impressive on paper right now but only time will tell whether it works in practice.

God I could talk for hours about some of this stuff :)

I wasn't calling them a nerf. I was surprised it was only 5%; the fact that % pen is moving up in line (so to speak) means that without a significant change to the pen value both items are getting stronger. I do not believe 5% is "significant change" in the grand scheme of things, all though that is speculation on my part or course.

Now that means you either want me to or you know that I can and am thankful that I didn't. Either way, I'm going to give a quick taster and then go to work :D

For instance, old items to watch now that things have been changed:

DFG: They have given it back it's CDR, even without an active this makes it a viable and strong item choice again.

Aegis: This item has now become pointless in it's previous role (double stack with bruisers to create a ridiculously powerful stat gain for gold cost) and will now probably become completely useless or a very strong top-lane item.

Warmogs: Holy shit, this is a big change. You are basically losing ~320hp from a fully stacked Mogs but getting FoN in place of it. Have to actually do maths here still, mainly because you also lose Mogs' previous regen, but combined with the lower cost I can't see any reason for this not to remain a staple item on several champions.

Ghostblade: Expect to see this picked up on some Ranged AD champs now, the new simplification of the active allowing for defensive AND offensive uses combined with the Penetration and Attack Speed changes makes this very attractive right now.

Warden's Mail: No longer a God-tier item you can sit on all game, now you need to upgrade to Randuins ASAP if you truly want the benefit. As a bruiser/tank player I dislike this change but from a non-biased perspective this needed to happen.

Swiftys: We'll see, I predict them finally being useful on Singed if you really don't need the Tabi (especially combined with the Taibi nerf). Obviously waiting to see on how the CC reduction interaction works though but at least these boots are now not completely useless(They might still *be* useless but that's at least not for lack of trying this time).

    Ninja Tabi: ;LKAHDFSAlkdah;GDLKSAHG

I'm going to miss the super ridiculous cost-effective brokenness that was the Dodge boot in S2 :(

Zekes: Another item that is going to be thrown in the crazy good if you rush or completely useless pile depending on testing. Too bad, I really liked the old item but I guess with the Attack Speed changes it would have made it far too strong (being already very strong anyway).

GA: FUCKING FINALLY RIOT! It's about time that one of the game's strongest actives is no longer paired with what was the most slot efficient defensive item in the game (other then fully-stacked Mogs). It'll still get picked up I'm sure because the active is amazingly useful but at least now you feel like you are wasting a slot when it's on CD.

Stuff like PD, Rice Blade changes and stuff will need me to do maths before I look at how it's going to effect things. I was avoiding doing anything serious until most of the changes were set in stone, I hate getting to deep into the PBE stuff for that very reason.

Completely agree with you, reading back over your post with my 2nd coffee I see the "only". My bad for missing it in the first place :)

Pretty much everything is speculation at this point, there is simply too many variables at play to make enough of a statement without seeing it actually in use in the game first.

Holy shit, enchantments. I just noticed they dropped the speed on most of the boots2 options (which is even more interesting when you look at the Move Speed changes to several Legendary items). Apparently one enchantment option is adding move speed to boots 2 (though you'll still be at +60, below S2's +70 for "normal" boots2). Also, one enchantment grants sivir's passive! It's probably a milder version, but it makes me wonder if she'll get tweaked again.

You know what, I never saw they were increasing base move speed for all champions by 25.
  28. Forge Oh, Come On

Diana seems like she has the potential to be ridiculous with some of the new items and masteries. Some of the other melee APs too maybe. That spellsword mastery!
  29. Forge Oh, Come On

They boosted the general movespeed of all champs with no boots though.

    Movement Speed
    • Movement Speed bonus on all Boot items has been reduced by 25
    • Base Movement Speed on all champions has been increased by 25

Well the main thing was the Boots 1 drop to 25 and increasing champ speed by 25 across the board. I don't think they decreased Boots 2 more then just compensation for the Boots 1 change but I'm only really looking at these new numbers now so things might have changed again.

Enchantments looks super cool, I'm just trying to avoid talking too much about the completely new stuff until I get to play around with it because I generally like to people to think I know what I'm talking about and I HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE ABOUT HALF THIS STUFF :)
  31. Inigima Hard Cider Gal

Was that the point of Aegis? Have I been using it wrong all this time? I used to buy it early on support heroes so my teammates could get some bonus resists they didn't have to pay for, and so I could be contributing even when I wasn't on the front line.
  32. peacedog Worked The System

The malady rework is a huge buff to Teemo. HUGE I TELL YOU.

Reading the Enchantments this time I'm glad I didn't pay too much attention to the PBE but I'll gladly say that we all called the Homeguard boot enchant needing that nerf. I have no idea what they were thinking before (the 8 second out of combat restriction wasn't in place until this update).

The point was to buy one of the jungler and top-lane bruiser (or I guess you could rush it on a support if you got super farmed) and enjoy the fact that the double stack on champions that could take full advantage of every stat was a bit ridiculous. Also if you ever play 3s you will see what I'm talking about even more :)

The main problem with Aegis on support is a timing issue. You want your Philo, Hog, Kindle Gem ASAP. By the time you have enough money for Aegis after that there just isn't a point, plus your team really needs you to grab that Shurylias or Zeke's more then anything else.

The removal of AD for Health Regen pretty much negates any point in ever stacking the item now though so maybe it'll be nice for Supports again... But then again they added a ton new support items which will probably return the timing issue again and also Health Regen is a really shitty stat to pay 2k gold for on a support.

Didn't see that change until now... That's a pretty huge buff to that item. I mean god knows it needed one but fuck me that looks awesome now.

IT MIGHT FUCKING SUCK STILL, but it *looks* awesome and right now that's all I care about :D

-edit- I'd actually like to preface any opinion I have about new items and stuff with that 2nd sentence, just to avoid future confusion.
  35. peacedog Worked The System

There is a mastery now to deal 5% of ap as magic damage on basic attacks. TEEMO OP.
  36. Forge Oh, Come On

I'm also thinking AS/AP Kog could be mean. Spellsword Mastery, Malady, and Hurricane for AS and then flat AP. Might be too much of a late game build though.
  37. peacedog Worked The System

Skip hurricane early or entirely. At 45% Attack speed, malady + level 5 Q (25%, but I'm guessing this is getting nerfed a little to go along with the item AS nerfs?) + 4% AS from masteries still puts you near 1.5 AS. Zerkers puts you over that by a comfortable margin (probably 1.6 but no longer just under 1.7). AS reds would put you over 1.7 though, I'm guessing (I figure you'll still want the AD from quints, though vice versa might cut it nicely). From there you could pile on AP a bit (haunting guise suddenly looks like an option) and then if it hits late game build an AS item to taste.

On paper, it's sound of course. Teemo don't care about paper, though.
  38. Forge Oh, Come On

You want the Hurricane because it applies on hit effects to multiple targets, so for Kog, Teemo, and Twitch this is very strong.
  39. peacedog Worked The System

Yes, I know how the hurricane works. My post stands.
