Hurricane should be real good for Varus, too. I am kind of both excited and scared for the jungle changes. Skaner will be mad op with the new Sheen item.

Ugh. The new Malady will cause Teemo to be even more op then he already is on Crystal Scar.

  6. Well dude they gotta power that fancy new hud. Some icons can have as many as two numbers on them!
  7. peacedog Worked The System

Aaron, perhaps you should upgrade to a laptop with a dedicated onboard icon processing chip.

How is it possible someone on his team didn't suggest he stop being such an enormous freakin' tool in solo queue? Or maybe they did and he just didn't care.

In any event, fuck players like that. I feel bad anytime I let my emotions get the best of me and sorta kinda imply that feeding may have dire repercussions and perhaps one ought to reconsider one's decisions going forward (normally I say nothing and pray we can turn things around). It's unfortunate they don't IP ban these guys who are habitually toxic and make their teammates miserable.

In any event, I'm loving this patch. The new support items are just so awesome. Instead of spending the first 20 minutes building gp10s and buying wards, supports can build real items and - gasp - use them, actively, all the time. So while I'll still be a subpar support anytime I'm tasked with playing that role, at least I can maybe have some fun doing it now.
  10. peacedog Worked The System

I observed in some brief sampling of new things last night that various item "aura" effects had changed, like Sunfire and Malady's debuff. Aaron, you should also get a graphics processor that has a "buff/debuff display chip".

  11. So all of these new items are pretty awesome and I'm loving trying out new stuff, especially on support characters. But if there is one thing I'm really looking forward to doing it tonight it is more of using Nocturne's E with the new skin because holy balls that is the best sound effect ever. I'm just walking around work today looking at stuff and making laser beam sounds.

    BRRRRREEAAAWWWWWWWW

The last time I played LoL was Feb 2011, when I was applying for a production job at Riot. But several of my coworkers play, so I installed it on my box at work with the idea of playing with them at some point.

Yesterday I got an email from Riot letting me know that because I hadn't played in ages they were going to make my summoner name available to the general populace unless I played one match before the 7th or the 9th or something. Now my handle is pretty much unique across the Internet, but still I kinda want to make sure I keep it. So I fire up LoL, join the 5v5 vs. AI queue. Pick a champion that a coworker tells me is support. We win and I end the game with 1 kill, 2 deaths, 17 assists. And I had a great time! And now I want to play again!

    Well played, Riot. Well played.

I played my first game in, like, forever this morning. Read a well-liked solomid build guide for a tanky support Morgana, which is what I've enjoyed playing in the past. Went...something not worth repeating in a 45-minute co-op win.

And I didn't get yelled at. So confused.

Anyway, love the new HUD. Store is still kinda a bitch, but it's better than it was. Need to rebind my keys; my RTS reflexes are making me desperately want WASD for camera and it's killing me.

    Also, fuck Lux.

Also also, do bots still not have to earn gold and just get itamz per the game clock? Otherwise they outfarmed the motherfuck out of our team in a game that it really didn't seem like they were.
  14. Forge This Is SEWIOUS

Yeah they really did a good job with them. My two current favorites are the Iceborn Gauntlet and Twin Shadows. I think Support has become the most mechanically complicated class as a result, as they seem to be the class with the potential for most items with actives.
  15. So I get in a normal game with a friend of mine. Game is not going awesome, we fall behind a bit and a couple of the guys on our team start playing the blame game and being jerks. Then our Draven does this:

Then we all laughed about it, stopped arguing and fought together for the rest of the game for a win. Good times, good times.

Had an encounter on Crystal Scar bot lane against a Nunu. He had a mres/spellvamp build and maxed his Q making him effectively unkillable for any caster as every time he snacked a minion he restored 30% of his health.

I eventually resorted to going around him and capping his point behind his back.

tl;dr Nunu Dominion bot lane is op
  18. Inigima Hard Cider Gal

Never faced it, but is it necessary to kill Invincible Nunu to win the lane? It seems like a strong pusher (Malzahar, for example) could just kill so many more creeps than Nunu that his own creeps could take the point while Invincible Nunu stands around unable to do much about it.
    JoshV likes this.
  19. JoshV Keeper of the Elemental Materials

Yeah, Nunu has a hard time pushing or doing anything, especially if he's maxing his bite and not his snowball. He also doesn't scale well either. He's basically a terrible relic from the past.

Full disclosure. I was playing Elise at the time who isn't so good at pushing. I think it mostly works because it's a one way attrition battle because he keeps hitting you with the snowball and the bites come every 6 seconds with CDR.

The only fun part was when he tried to ult me. "Oh noes!" *rappel*
  21. Pogo Hard Cider Gal

Does the framerate cap work in the video options?
  22. Therlun I Pretty Much Live Here

I actually noticed that too. My graphics card fan goes into "fast&loud" mode now, which it never did before the patch and does for almost no other game I own.

Also, before the big patch Nunu was one of the best bots in Dominion. The recent penetration changes might have influenced that, but he is still very strong.

A friend is getting back into the game so DragonPup and I played some bot games with him. Our last one included a Soraka who died constantly, ended the game with a negative score, complained that "Graves so OP," and complained that the AI "cheated" because "see computer is camping in bushes."

So until January 6th, a bunch of retired(non holiday/event) skins that were retired earlier this year are back on the store until January 6th for half off. This includes the 5 retired legendary skins Firefighter Trist, Red Baron Corki, Annie in Wonderland, Alien Heimer, and Magnificent Twisted Fate. What is even cooler is that if you bought one of those legendaries back when they were 1820RP, Riot is giving 910RP onto your account each.

Well, I finally managed to roll into Dominion high elo. Queue is around ten minutes and I know half the names on the teams.

It's probably another season before they add ranked though.
  29. Hanacker Armchair Designer

Are there videos or streams of high Elo Dominion (sorry if they've already been posted in this thread)? I'm kind of curious what that looks like. I much prefer Summoner's Rift, but I've been playing more Dominion lately since my brother prefers it and it doesn't require creating an uninterrupted block of an hour's time.
  30. peacedog Worked The System

Voyboy is 7-0 at 7 minutes with one of his first Vi games today. Her finishing move looks awesome (don't know if it actually is awesome).

Wait NM it's bots. Dark Souls!
  31. Therlun I Pretty Much Live Here

Dominion is SOOOOO much better than SR in every way! No boring 30 minutes laning farm fest for 2 team fights in the end. High Elo Dominion is much more fluid and engaging than any SR game.

Here is the Dominate Dominion (The North American Dominion fansite/tournament) channel: http://www.twitch.tv/dominatedominion
It has commented streams of the weekly tournament and ~5 different streamers every week. Although sadly, three of those are dedicated bot players which makes for less interesting watching.

The highlights tab here (http://www.twitch.tv/dominatedominion/videos) has a recent tourney on the top of the list, and the past videos tab has all streams recorded (Including lots of 19 second tests by one of the streamers who can't figure out how twitchTV works. Every single week.)

Of the streamers I would recommend CptnBuwberry and Nyx87. Nekrogen is probably one of the best bot players in Dom, but he almost exclusively plays bot and doesn't explain stuff/decisions, which makes for poor watching. Dominus Arts is an European player who does explain a bit more, but streams irregularly.
Even the streamers that explain lots focus on their heroes/individual decisions though, neglecting the greater strategy for their team and dominion specific tactics. Which is kind of sad, as Dominion is quite different and offers a very entertaining and versatile playing field at the cost of having to learn a different set of strategies.

SR bores me to tears now. I still play it sometimes on my smurf because my DOM queue there is infinite, but it's just..ugh. Twenty minutes of last hitting minions followed by a handful of team fights that are over in twenty seconds.

Ironically, high level dominion looks a lot like low level dominion as people move between lanes a lot. Of course the difference is found in that at low level people are flailing around aimlessly while at high level everyone moves with a clear purpose and map awareness. Mid level elo is very strict, 1 bot, 4 top most of the time. Finding a good Dominion stream is indeed hard as, as pointed out, most of those players are dedicated botters.

I've been looking into starting to stream some stuff of my own as well. What would be the easiest way to go about that? Start a youtube channel or try to hook up with on of the lol streaming sites?

So some big-ish League IP pricing changes announced.

First: 7(!!!) champs were reduced to 4800 IP/880 RP: Ezreal, Renekton, Vlad, Nocturne, Lee Sin, Brand and Vayne. If you bought one of them in the last 2 weeks, you'll get the IP/RP difference refunded. All sub 6300 IP champions have their RP costs normalized(See the below link for exact numbers).

Second: Riot says they are aiming for 14-18 champions a year now. The reduced schedule allows for more time to collect IP between champions, and more time to balance each one

Third: For the first week only, new Champions are being released at 7800 IP/975 RP. They revert to 6300/975 after that. While that sucks, every time a new champion is released, the oldest champion at 6300 gets reduced to 4800/880. And Every third release, a 4800 or lower champion goes down a price tier, too.

I bought Firefighter Tristana ($5 + 300 points I had lying around, not bad) and now I don't want to play anyone but her. Is there a way to make her at all viable in Dominion?
  35. jellyfish This Is SEWIOUS

OMG. I also just bought Firefighter Tristana. Apparently, they opened the skin vault for Christmas. And I also now don't want to play anyone but Tristana. And also before I bought the new skin I didn't want to play anyone but Tristana. And also I don't ever play Dominion.
  36. Crisco I Pretty Much Live Here

I don't know what they're paying Hippalus but it can't possibly be enough. The new IP policy is definitely a tremendous step forward in terms of consistency and fairness to the playerbase, while also handily addressing new champion spam the week of release. Two thumbs up, imo.

And congrats on the Tristana skin, guys. I don't know why she gets a bad rap when it is objectively (yes, objectively!) one of the cooler legendary skins in the game.
  37. MarinusWA I Pretty Much Live Here

    Location:

No. Tristana is in fact the champ with the worst win percentage of all champs on Dominion (40%), although I must say that is likely to be in large part because of a lot of people playing her AP. To clarify, AP Trist is useless on Dominion unless you enjoy kill stealing. If your ult isn't up her dmg is non-existent, which makes her dead weight.

As AD she suffers the same fate all the other AD carries do; they are useless until they get all their gear and in a gapclosing bruiser heavy field like Dominion you will have lost the game long before then.

If you insist on using her, get black cleaver and frozen mallet first so you don't get blown up in a second and save your W for getting away rather then attacking. Also, never ever go into the jungle by yourself unless you are 100% certain where all the enemy players are.
  38. peacedog Worked The System

What does the champion getting a bad rap have to do with whether the skin is any good or not? Those two states are not exclusive.
  39. Crisco I Pretty Much Live Here

Tristana does not get a bad rap... she's one of the most feared late-game hyper-carries. OTOH, every mention of her firefighter skin - by Riot or tourney casters - has been somewhat derogatory. I have never understood it.
  40. Inigima Hard Cider Gal

Tristana is hilariously dangerous once she gets rolling. She lacks the big early game nukes of someone like Graves or Caitlyn, though, so you need to be able to commit to a farm game for a bit. With Explosive Shot she farms pretty well, though.

I haven't played her since the new season 3 items, what does a "standard" Tristana build look like now?
