My dad is a doctor and my mom is a nurse and I can confirm that this is the case.

And, uh. It's not a bad approach, presuming one's goal is to be a hateful shitbag.

Lum has a point, and not to rag on your very nicely jarring image, RyanMM, but I don't see how harping on the method helps. I've had two TVU and they're no more uncomfortable than a pelvic exam. Granted, the first time my right Fallopian tube was in the process of rupturing, so discomfort was a little relative, but I don't recall the second being traumatic at all. It's not how a woman is getting an ultrasound, but why. And I think most of us agree that the why should be up to the woman and her doctor, end of story.

That's why I mention the medical necessity. Having the procedure just because a lawmaker says you should is what makes it a violation.

I would no more be OK with legislation that says in order to get Viagra, you have to have a urethral scope performed. That too would be medically unnecessary in most cases and a violation.

Have a doctor administer then next time.

Amusingly, doctors don't generally administer ultrasounds. That's what ultrasound techs are for. Well, that and triggering crippling, months-long pain, I guess.

edit - I stand corrected. Most of them were administered by actual doctors. She still strongly disagrees with the comparison to the pelvic exam.

This. This is what pro-lifers should do. Don't want people to have abortions? Make birth outcomes less horrible, and more women will choose to carry a child to term even if they choose not to raise it themselves. As a bonus: healthier women and babies!

Of course, "support for women with unplanned pregnancies" is probably a Trojan horse for "counseling that browbeats them with graphic photos and how they're going to Hell for having an abortion," but a man can dream.

Not to mention that this particular argument completely contradicts all that "personhood" business going around in other states.

Since when does the GOP know about things like science when drafting legislation about it?

So #LiberalTips2AvoidRape is apparently the latest thing to prove that conservatives do totally care about women. Except it's not about women, it's about promoting gun rights and wrapped in rape jokes. The usual vile skunkthrottlers think it's hilarious obviously.

  29. Bill Dungsroman Magister Mundi Elyscape

    To Congresswoman Dipshit:

The latest an elective abortion can be performed is as 20 weeks. A fetus at 20 weeks is on average 300 grams, or 2/3 of a pound. An adult human liver weighs 3 pounds, the heart also 300 grams, the lungs about 500-600 grams each, and the brain 1300-1400 grams ALTHOUGH THAT SIZE MIGHT BE OF HIGHER VARIANCE TOWARDS THE LOW END AMONG FUCKING IDIOT CONGRESSTARDS WHO ARE PRO LIFE AND THEN CALL FETUSES ORGANS.

This idiot literally assumed "Well a baby at birth is 9 pounds sooooo *fart noise*"

That hashtag is horrible, both in it's initial concept of being gun control wrapped in.. whatever the fuck that is. And for it's evolution into being "conservatives troll twitter, make horrible jokes about rape and wonder why they have an image problem"

  37. Jestintime Oh, Come On

All very true, but somewhat beside the point. I would bet you your beverage of choice that McClurkin doesn't buy the "fetuses are organs" bullshit any more than you or I do. It's clearly a throwaway face-saving remark meant to avoid stating the hiding-in-plain-sight truth that these abortion clinic regulations have nothing to do with medical exigency and everything to do with trying to make abortion practically inaccessible.
