I'm not following. So it's better that she doesn't believe that but she's saying it anyway?

Not really. It's more 'Liberals don't want you to have a gun which means that you are more likely to get raped as a result ergo liberals are pro-rape.' That doesn't make it any less idiotic of course.

    I don't know
That's a classic Conservative viewpoint: women who are raped were asking for it.
Then they make it a "liberal tip to avoid rape" and laugh at how stupid and out of touch they are about rape.

It's both "women who are raped as asking for it" and "liberal women are ugly, am I rite?", which is about as successful an outreach program as most of their immigration rhetoric. I'm sure I've noted before that in an era of very wide gaps between the haves and the have nots, "fuck you, got mine" and it's related variants for other social inequality is a terribly ineffective slogan.

A real-life reminder about victim-blaming just happened to me.

In a FB thread about how men fear homosexuality partly because "they're afraid that they'll be treated by men the same way they treat women" (I'm paraphrasing), some asshole came in and basically shit all over saying something to the effect of "Buck up and be brave you whiny bitches, girls shouldn't be so afraid of strange men." I went all "RAPE CULTURE and VICTIM BLAMING" on him about why women can't just "be brave and get over it," and I got a message from a stranger who is apparently the asshole's friend. She wrote to me:

TL;DR: this shit is still prevalent, but combat it and you can make a difference, even if it's just comforting a survivor by being an ally.

Ahh, the old HOW DARE YOU TREAT STRANGE MEN WITH SUSPICION coupled with the NATURALLY YOU GOT SEXUALLY ASSAULTED WHEN YOU BROKE ONE OF THE ARBITRARY NO-RAPE RULES. Can't win ever! Yay!
  9. AaronSofaer Magister Mundi Elyscape

To be fair, he's right. Women shouldn't be afraid of being raped by strangers, because by and large, they won't.

They should clearly be afraid of being raped by him, because he will.

It was a cult. As a member you were not allowed to discuss non denominational nonsense. The very act of open discussion was considered to be abject heresy. A heretic was easy to identify as someone who commented on the ideological orthodoxy. It is difficult to impress the degree upon which the manner of which your upbringinging alters your worldview. As in you get excommunicated.

"They are being asked to suppress and radically contradict part of their own identity."

No. They are being told they are sluts, and arseholes like Dominic Pedulla want laws that punish them by forcing them to have children they don't want, all for the crime of wanting to have sex for pleasure.
  29. AaronSofaer Magister Mundi Elyscape

Well, wanting to stab shitheads like that guy might be a core part of their identity. Clearly by this logic they should stop suppressing it.
  30. Bill Dungsroman Magister Mundi Elyscape

    lol "poison their bodies"

Contraceptives (BCPs) work by tricking the body into thinking it's already pregnant by the use of hormones, IDIOT

The GOP would be better off just never mentioning rape or women ever again. At least then people could only speculate about whether Republicans hate women, rather than have mountains of evidence that they do.
  34. Otterloop Beardy Magnificence

Republicans hate women so much they must secretly want to have sex with them in airport bathrooms.

What the hell study? Who studies that?

"Ma'am, I see you're on birth control. Do you want a random pregnancy or not?!?", of course someone on birth control doesn't want to get pregnant, that's the goddamned POINT (*when used as birth control, and not any of the other medical uses)

For some reason that line just jumped out at me, the "employer wishes to force their views on their employees" bit just kind of seems normal now.

A joke I heard a lot while I lived in Oklahoma:

"The only good thing about Oklahoma are the roads leading out, and even those have potholes."

    Truer words were never spoken.

    Oh, wow. This changes everything.

I mean, I thought they were forced to be on contraception. By hill folk. They'd come down from their mountain hamlets and abduct women who weren't on some form of contraceptive.

I mean it; this changes everything.

People use contraceptives because they desire a contraceptive effect.

    Mind blown.
