B would be a big deal because if he cared for his kid, leaving them behind would be a difficult and painful decision, but the safest one to keep his child out of harm. But he'd never be able to see them. Ever.

good point for B, now for my argument on A:
He is not married, he was married. He love his wife tons but she died in a way that is connected to his becoming a pirate king (remember how he is reluctant to talk about that) and he feels he can't let himself get that close to anyone again. The reason he drinks and womanizes so much is to distract himself from his feelings.

as for C... a princess was mentioned?

Edit: It looks like he didn't explicitly state he was poor, just that his hometown was similar to Wench's. I guess I just don't get that typical otome-game 'secretly royal' vibe from him.

Well, Heroine/Main Character/Wench is supposed to be 16...
Though I was pretty surprised at how young Eduardo and Russell are. I thought Russell would be around 25 and Eduardo 30-something. Apparently not! O___o

Pshaw, Otome heroines are ALWAYS teenagers unless explicitly stated that she's an older girl.
I don't remember where I read that Heroine is 16, but even if she is older than Thomas, she's probably 17-18. In the story it's stated that Thomas is the same age/very close age as Heroine. 4+ years is NOT close (at least by Asian standards; I don't know about Western standards).

4+ years is close in age if you're in your 30s; not so much if you're in your teens.

I always figured Wench was eighteen. Which makes her romancing Captain a bit awkward.

Most Voltage protagonists actually seem to be a bit older than that; their games that I've played have had a surprising array of college graduates and professional working women. That said, Wench has always struck me as more in the 17-19 range, especially given the Theme Park Historical setting in which it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for a girl that age to be working as a bar wench.
