Oh, what a wonderful love interest you are, Kaptein. Tell Wench to go home and ENDANGER HER ENTIRE HOMETOWN for "harbouring a criminal". Bloody awesome. Be ready to compensate the entire town with you shitload of gold when they get flattened by the navy.

    YOU ARE AN IDIOT [IMG]

Provoke the crew to gang up on the captain! Bribe Patchy McScaryface! He's the goddamn navigator! Bribe him to not sail the ship to Yamato!!

...Again, not that mad, because he said she SHOULD go back. Not 'I am going to force you against your will', just 'I am offering you a last chance to get the fuck out of dodge before literally everything goes to hell'.

It's both hilarious and a little sad to watch everyone get so mad at him for actually being fairly courteous and trying to keep Wench alive.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! :D~

Also .. we should have really called Captain an Idiot .. because he is an idiot! And not listening to Wench at ALL since she has said like a gazillion times that she wants to STAY despite knowing that it's dangerous and all. And like d_a_renoir said .. it wouldn't really help if they got her back to her hometown as the navy would probably find her there and burn the town down or something evul~ like that .. so yeah. He clearly needs some sense slapped into him .. why is'nt there an option to do that?
  4. d_a_renoir Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Kaptein, you're supposed to be a smart dude. Don't you have a better idea??? Oh, what am I talking about? This is Theme-Park-Whacky-History setting. There's no such thing as pirates with an armada of their own. I mean, pfft, Pirate King. Keeper of the seas. Him and his band of merry men needs no army. They're a one-ship armada *coughunlikeZhengYiSaoandherhundredsofcrewmemberscough*

I'm kind of offended by that "it's a little sad" remark :/ Sounds like you think we're being so horrible for going down so harshly on Kaptein. To be fair we're kinda see-sawing between real life logic and otome logic in this forum, but... I think my anger at him is justified. I'm letting it slide just because I've fed myself enough shoujo manga and cliche otome stuff to know this is just run of the mill stuff, but sometimes I can't help but start thinking realistically. And your remark was about the population of the forum, so I can't help but react.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not mad at him for being "nice" for once. I'm mad because the possibility of harming numerous civilians didn't even enter his mind. He was supposed to care for the common folk! That's what made Wench think a little better of him earlier. He helped the city that was troubled by some rich dude monopolizing the water supply and Wench was all "ooh, he's maybe nicer than he lets on".

I know he's concerned for her safety, but... I really want to know what makes him think she's going to be safe at home. Kaptein had to break her OUT OF JAIL. So Kaptein knows that the authorities consider her to be a member, friend or accomplice of the Sirius. The navy is crawling all over the place hunting down pirates, so it's still going to be dangerous for her to go home. And if he's someone who cares for the civilians, then he should at least consider that he would only endanger the innocent citizens who may defend/protect/hide her. Maybe because they knew her since her childhood and refuse to believe that Wench is a pirate and/or simply out of their concern for a fellow citizen, especially one who was lost for a very long time. We're supposed to think the navy are irrational angry bastards in this universe after all. Pirates? THE DEVIL'S BROOD!!! HERETICS!!! Get the pitchfork and torches!!!

Unless he sends her home because Yamato has their own navy and so he assumes she'll be safe home. But we DON'T know if Yamato's navy is part of the pirate-hunting campaign and whether or not they're going to be nice to their own citizens. What if Wench is also on the Wanted posters already? What if the posters reached Yamato because the Sirius crew is apparently very infamous? So this is just yet another instance of him being an inconsiderate twerp.

If we're just going along with the otome logic, sure, it's all good and dandy. On real-life logic? This thing doesn't fly. One good deed isn't gonna erase the fact that he's been an inconsiderate whack up until now. He hasn't shown any change other than the other crewmen being all "you're the first woman blah blah blah" and the whole "hey, this is how I am" excuse don't cut it. Good intention + bad execution = BAD. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and all that. So far Captain's route seems like it is trying to go for both "bad boy with a heart of gold" and "a bastard through and through and is proud of it". He has his nice moments and a "masking his deep and angsty soul of woe with a mask of casual attitude" going on, but the "I'm always like this, don't mind me" attitude Kaptein has is so overbearing that I'm beginning to think that the past of woe doesn't exist. Maybe the over-exaggerated flightiness is part of the charade, but still. It doesn't work like that, yo. Bipolar stories just give me whiplash. If it doesn't improve or be explained as it goes? I'll just hsut off my brain and start just thinking in otome-logic o___O

Sorry if this was bothering anyone. I always try my best to not to be all social-justice-y on otome game discussions. Carry on.

Good day, Broken Forum! Are you enjoying the holiday season?
Recently, one of the Voltage fan tumblrs compared Eduardo (that's our Patchy!) to the Grinch, and now I can't get the mental image out of my head.
Someone should draw that, just sayin~
But failing that, have a song!

Now that it's stuck in your head as well as mine, let's get on to the update. (✿◕‿◡)~★

A few days have passed since that night, and relations between the Captain and I have not improved.

Cap'n has spent most of the time holed up in his cabin, occasionally calling in Patchy or another crew member to discuss plans for the naval issue. Every crew member except for me, that is.
He's avoiding me again, and it's driving me mad with worry.

It's incredibly awkward, and on a ship this small, everyone knows everyone's business.
So when Nathan changed the meal schedule...

He gave me the excuse I needed to see Cap'n again, and I was unendingly grateful. I want to kiss the cook, I tell ya.

When I entered the cabin, Cap'n was hunched over his desk, intently reading a letter. He hadn't replied to my knock, or noticed my entry.

He was so focused, he didn't even hear me until I repeated my call.

He moved to hide the letter.
He looks tense and anxious, more worried than I've seen before. I know he doesn't want me to bother him, but he looks so unwell, I can't help asking.

He seems at war with himself, before muttering that he'd "have to tell me eventually."

The heavy parchment is covered in ornate calligraphy, and it takes me a moment to read the embellished words.

    Info dump time!

And at the head of these four quadrants is the Pirate King, who presides over all oceans and all pirates. He leads these four, and these four captains lead the rest of the world.
Y'know, I don't really want to be Pirate Queen anymore. Sounds like a lot of bother and bureaucracy.

Cap'n rapidly lists the captains of the four oceans, their names flying right over my head.
Captain Lee in the west, Captain Cecil in the north, Captain Van in the east… There's no way I can remember these without having a face to match up with the descriptions.

He pauses, having only listed three, so I prod him to continue.

ALAN CAN ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING USEFUL??

So even after all his crazy shenanigans, we can rely on Captain Alan in the end, right? ❤

After a brief everyone-mocks-Alan derail, the conversation returns to the original subject: the Captain's Confrence

Could it maybe, possibly, be the whole navy issue? As if that hasn't been brought up in every post since it was first revealed?

    SHOCK.

It's gotten so bad that it must be dealt with on a global scale?
This is worse than I'd thought.
The Imperial Navy always pursued pirates, but they also had other duties. To devote this much manpower to take out pirates - are they planning something?

I notice that Cap'n is looking stressed as well.
    He almost looks -- ill?
    I tentatively if he's okay.

Well, that just smacks of deceit.

    He looks pale and drawn.
I mention this, and ask if he might be sick, but he brushes it off.

    Judgmental elipsis.
Fine, then, I'll stop worrying about you. Sorry for the trouble.
I turn to go, when he calls out.

    Wait now, what?
    Can I even do that??
Isn't this like, a super secret council of war among pirate leaders?

    There's always a "but."
What will it be this time? Do I have to cross-dress and pretend to be your cabin boy? Or hide in another barrel? Or accept your double dog dare next time we're playing truth or dare?
This is going to be ridiculous, I can just feel it.

    Hm.
    Well, that's irony for you.

Things have been weird between us, but it seems like I have a chance to reconcile with Cap'n this way.

    GYAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAA!!!

They have Pirate Lords now???? PIRATE LORDS??? With a Pirate King over them all??? I'm having Pirates of the Caribbean 3 flashbacks again. So, okay, there's less Lords and each Lord is in charge of bigger sections. POTC's lords only control one sea/ocean each (Sparrow's Carribbean Sea lord, Ching is lord over the Pacific, Barbossa over the Caspian, etc). And this idea is probably not new or original, but still.

See? I knew Alan is Jack Sparrow! That hair! That attitude!! He can't damn walk in a straight line. How is that not Jack Sparrow?

Not gonna lie, I really want to know what this big secret meeting is going to be like. Can't seem too eager to go, though, so let's play it cool.

Okayyy, I guess I'll go. Only because you asked me to.

    Cap'n isn't buying it.

    Grrrrrghghhgk.
You know what, I will. I'll be so damn alluring that all of your underling captains will fall for me. Then I can take your crown and have an even better harem. So there.

Cap'n just shooed me out of the cabin.

He left, grumbling, his mood seeming worse than before.
    What a debbie downer.

The ship changed course, and after a few hours, we arrived at the location for the meeting.

The location for the meeting is a ruin deep in the jungle.
It looks like humans lived here once, but not recently, judging from the disrepair of the buildings.

Cap'n led the way to one particular building. It looked like any other of the ruined structures from the outside, but inside, it was in perfect condition.
When we entered, four men inside rose to greet us.

Here come a lot of new faces! I don't remember seeing these guys in any of the other routes. Introduction time!

This is Captain Cecil, a fallen aristocrat who is in charge of the North. He's the one who called the meeting.
Ooo, monocle, I can dig it. Great hair, would add to harem, 5/5.

Captain Lee, a former naval officer. He guards the West.
Look at those shoulders! Plus, he ditched the navy? Bet he's got a good backstory! Would add to harem, 4/5.

Captain Van, who is in charge of the East, is a mysterious fellow. No one knows his past or how he became a pirate, but he has "connections" everywhere.
Nice hat, Gandalf. A bit old for my age range, personally, but I've heard that oyaji are popular around here, so I guess I would add him to the harem. 3/5.

And our own dear Alan, representative of the South. Can't walk in a straight line, fabulous hat, kinky, etc.
He's already in the harem. He just doesn't know it yet.

No one had noticed me, too preoccupied by Capn's usual grand entrance. But once their initial greetings were traded, Alan let out a squawk.

All eyes in the room turned to me.
U-uhhmm, time to turn on the charm!
Hello, boys! Want to join the Harem on the High Seas?

    Urk.
    Guess not.

While Cecil gripes about the impropriety of bringing an outsider, 'and a woman at that!' , into their secret boys club, Van bellows with laughter.

Cap'n smiles through it all, and pulls me forward.

Alan, who had been making flirty eyes at Cap'n quiet until now, starts kicking up a fuss again.

    He's so jelly.
Now, is he jealous of me, or of Cap'n? I really can't tell anymore.

Pffft, how cute, he thinks that being in the harem makes me "in love" with him.
Don't worry, cutie pie, I'll buy your route with my Christmas money~

Cap'n is fed up with Alan his clingy ex and discreetly elbows Alan in the ribs to shut him up. While Alan squawks in pain, Cap'n brushes past as if nothing had happened.

At his command, the other captains nod and move to take their seats and the conference table in the middle of the room.

As the one who called the council, captain Cecil steps up first, and presents the reason for the meeting.

He gestures to captain Lee, who stands and reports in a military fashion. Must be a habit from when he was in the navy.

    Massacres.
The more we hear about the navy's actions, the more it seems like they're simply razing the world, regardless of innocents who may be caught in the destruction.
Each captain spoke of the persecution from the navy in turn, each story more gruesome than the last.

Cap'n listened grimly to the reports.
When he had heard enough, he stood and asked the obvious question.

Cecil's plan is laid out: one fell swoop to take out the enemy.
It's a gamble with high stakes, but Lee supports the strategy. As a former high ranking naval officer, he is disgusted with the navy's current tactics.

These two screenshots are probably not hugely plot significant in the long run but I think it is such a cool line that hints at Lee's backstory. I really wish he had a route - I want to know how he ended up as a pirate!

Van and Alan remain neutral, watching Cap'n to see his reaction.
Arms crossed, face dark, Cap'n seems deep in thought until Van calls for his attention.

Slowly, Cap'n inclines his head in agreement.

As he pauses, Cecil looks at him sharply.

Cap'n takes a measured breath before weighing the pros and cons of the plan.

It's a logical and well-thought response, considering the risks.
All the gathered captains look at him strangely.

    A pause.
Cap'n forces a laugh, but something feels off about his next response.

Alan has remained silent this whole time. Now, he looks closely at Cap'n, frowning, but still refrains from speaking.
The rest of the captains seem to accept this, and Cecil takes the floor again.

Pirate King's box? This sounds important.

All the gathered captains speak somewhat reverently about this box, whatever it is. Lee even says that it holds the key to opposing the navy.
    What could this be?

Cap'n is clearly uncomfortable with this situation, but Wench and I are both clueless as to why.

Alan has noticed Capn's reluctance as well, and speaks up for the first time since the meeting began.

All eyes are on Cap'n once again, but this time, they're not so friendly.

A weak Pirate King is a dead Pirate King.
If he doesn't go along with their plan now, he might be dethroned, and something tells me Cecil would be much less gentle than I would be.

Cecil nods forcefully, and tells the gathered captains that "We'll go now, then."
As the men stand, our Cap'n looks confused.

Everyone stops to stare at him.
Even I'm a bit confused. Cap'n doesn't seem to be all here for some reason. Maybe he really is sick?

Cecil condescendingly adds that it's in a nearby ruin. "Don't tell me that you forgot, Pirate King?"

Cap'n hurries to hide his blunder, trying to cover it with a joke.

Both Alan and I are staring at him, and I don't miss the fact that Cap'n yields to Cecil, following him to the ruin where the box is hidden.
Maybe Cap'n really is an amnesiac? All these little slip-ups, they've got to be significant.

Arriving at the ruin, Cecil pulls a small chest from a hidden door and briskly hands it to Cap'n.

There's something wrong with how much Cecil is taking charge of the current proceedings, but I'm too worried for Cap'n to do more than take note of it.

A rare chest that only the Pirate King can open - I wonder what's inside it?
    The lid creaks open, but…

    Uh oh.
    Dead silence.
All the gathered captains stare, that same confused, suspicious gaze from before.
What the hell is going on, seriously.

Cap'n and I exchange anxious glances, before Alan shoves his way up between us.

Alan steps on Capn's foot, and shoves him while he's off-balanced. Then he puts on a cheerful smile, taking the chest casually from Capn's grip.

He gestures into the chest, and sure enough, there is a discreet seam in the wood, invisible to the casual observer.
Tossing the chest back to Cap'n with a laugh, Alan continues to speaking teasingly, lightening the dangerous mood.

Cap'n immediately began to play along with the "joke", but I could tell what had just happened.
Alan had saved Cap'n from losing face, and probably saved his throne, if not his life.

    This is so weird.
These two must not know Cap'n as well as Alan or I do, because anyone who's spent time with him can tell that Cap'n isn't acting like himself now...

Cap'n triggered a small switch in the box, causing the trapdoor to spring open.
Out of the hidden compartment rolled a deep blue crystal. Cecil's eyes fixed on it immediately, predatory.

    This doesn't feel right.
Lee steps between Cecil and the stone, warning him that the stone is only to be used as a countermeasure against the navy. While they stare each other down, I hear Cap'n mumble something so quietly, so softly, I wonder if I imagined it.

How would the Pirate King not know the location of his own treasure? This is seriously weird.

Cecil and Lee are still fighting, and Cecil suddenly pulls Cap'n into it.

Cecil argues eloquently that his oceans are under the most pressure from the navy, he is the one who called the meeting, he needs the stone.
Cap'n, still in a daze, falls for it.
    I don't like this.

As soon as he has the Rain Stone in his hands, Cecil makes tracks. The way he's hightailing it out of here, you'd think he was up to something suspicious. Hint hint. I'm calling it now.

Since all captains must be present for the council, Cecil's departure marks the end of the meeting. Lee inclines his head respectfully to Cap'n before he wishes us farewell.

After the two most volatile captains have left, Van gives his finals words to Cap'n.

Leaning in, Van whispers a stern warning. "If you don't keep it together, the title of Pirate King might be taken right out from under your nose!"

They remind me of each other. I wonder if they might be related somehow.
Van leaves, and only I, Cap'n, and Alan remain.

When Alan shows no sign of going ahead, Cap'n clears his throat a bit awkwardly.

However, Alan puts out a hand to stop him, examining Cap'n closely.

Cap'n tries to shrug him off, laughing, but Alan isn't playing this time. His face is more serious than I've ever seen him.

"Bringing a woman to the captain's conference, behaving oddly, not knowing the location of your own treasure…"
He lists the occurrences of the day, and I'm amazed at how much he noticed. He's been watching Cap'n almost as closely as I have.

Alan looks squarely into Capn's eyes, and then asks a completely unexpected question.

(But, seriously, I was not actually expecting the plot to wander in this direction.)
