And this is kind of relevant if you've played the game with the music and everything. I just noticed that the main theme is directly based off of Nessun Dorma! (A relative of mine was showing me a Korean pop star singing it, and I freaked out so much because I thought that a whole orchestra was playing songs from Pirates in Love somehow... XD )

Classes resume for me tomorrow and I'm going to have to relearn how to communicate with normal people. Because it's not really socially acceptable to communicate with gifs, keyboard smashing, and spastic flailing in most face-to-face settings, is it? Boo.

This also means updates might be a bit more rare, depending on my class and work schedule. But the LP will still continue, of course!


More tangentially relevant Voltage fun: in Love Letter from Thief X, the tsundere character, Takuto, tends to come up with inventive(?) insults. When agitated by the villain of his route, Takuto yells this fun gem.

☆ Now, onto the big infodump update! ☆
I haven't been using my silly little stars and sparklies as much lately, have I? I should remedy that.

It was a tense moment, but eventually logic won out, and we all returned to the ship before the navy came across us.
Not a word was spoken on the way.

Another gathering was called as soon as we reached the ship.
Russell watched impassively while Cap'n repeated what he'd said in the ruins.





The others echoed Nathan's sentiment, none seeming to fully comprehend.



✿Poor cutie. He's trying to understand.

Patchy calls for everyone to be quiet. He looks like he's about to fire his gun, so the crew grudgingly complies.
All eyes are on Cap'n as he slowly starts to speak.



Start at the beginning. It's a very good place to start. Or so I've heard.



Teria, Patchy interjects, is a desert town.
Hey, doesn't this sounds a little familiar? Didn't we hear about a mercenary before?

As Cap'n describes his early life, joining the Terian forces at 15 and fighting in numberless battles, Russell's expression changes to one of shock.





Dun dun DUN.



So… When it was said that the Legendary Swordsman was only person who could match the Pirate King in battle, it was all just you?
Whatta gip.

So Morgan is the only one who can fight evenly with Morgan. Huh.

Well, now we know a bit about who this impostor is, there is another question that needs answering:



Furthermore, how did the Legendary Swordsman end up taking the place of the Pirate King?



DUN dun dunnnn.
Man, when did this route turn into a soap opera? This plot twist just seems so completely out of nowhere, I don't even know what to do with it.
Okay.
So.
Identical twins.
Which one is the evil twin?



Oh man, I can just imagine them as teenagers and one twin would trick his scorned ex-girlfriends into chasing after the other twin just so he could get off easy and go drink even more rum. Tell me you can't picture it.



Well.
That's a downer.

The real Pirate King died at a turbulent time, when relations with the navy were almost as bad as they are now. If the news got out that the Pirate King had died suddenly without a successor, the unity of the pirates would dissolve and the navy would crush them while they were weakened.
In short, all the pirates would be screwed.







Another long silence.



Russell is taking it the hardest - he idolized both the Captain and the Legendary Swordsman. To lose both his heroes in one blow must feel horrible, even if the core of the deception was in order to protect others.



The crew seems to divide as some take sides.







Patchy, you are not Nathan. That is a terrible disguise.



It's times like this I wish the game had a clearer timeline.
How long ago did this Captain take the real Pirate King's place? How long have the current crew members been aboard the ship? Have they always served under the twin, or did some know the original Pirate King before he died? And if they had known the original, did they not notice the change?
Also, I probably need to come up with some nickname or way of differentiating the original Pirate King Morgan from his currently nameless twin, because otherwise this might get really damn confusing.

Before the bickering can turn nasty, Cap'n speaks up again.





All noise in the room stops.

Cap'n looks resigned as he asks Patchy where the nearest port is. Plans are made to dock there, and any member who wishes to leave may do so freely.



After saying this, Cap'n slowly left the cabin, returning to his room.

Still, no one speaks.
Eventually, the crew disperses in silence, each going their separate ways to consider the decision before them.

Well, here's the thing.
I don't really have a room of my own to go to.
Nathan seemed to need time alone after the meeting, and there's not really anywhere else on the ship I can go.
And goddammit, I want to talk to Cap'n.

So, I'm going for it, and if he won't talk to me, well, then he won't talk to me.



Success...?!

Inside the Captain's cabin, our Cap'n is sitting on the bed, staring contemplatively at nothing. He mumbles to himself, as if finishing up some thought process I'd interrupted.





I enter the cabin tentatively. I haven't been in here recently, and I'm not sure what to do with myself now. I didn't actually think he'd let me in this time...
I awkwardly settle into the cushy chair that had become my usual place in the room while Cap'n mumbles.



This seems to be a bit more aimed at me, so I decide to risk asking.
"What time?"



Hey, the princess who was name-dropped ages back and then completely ignored! It WAS plot relevant!

So the actual Pirate King Morgan kidnapped a princess and was branded for it? Sounds like a scoundrel.



☆ The plot thickens! ☆
For the sake of clarity, at this point onward, the actual, original Morgan who is dead will be referred to as "Pirate King Morgan," while the current twin/impostor will be called Cap'n, as we have always called him.

While I munch on popcorn listen intently, Cap'n tells me about how the two were deeply in love. However, the emperor was enraged that his daughter had fallen in love with a pirate, and forbade them from meeting. But when the Pirate King Morgan continued to try to meet with the princess, he was captured by imperial soldiers and imprisoned.



While he wasn't executed immediately, Pirate King Morgan was tortured and threatened with death. But his execution was delayed by the princess, and that gave him enough time to escape from his prison.





But this story doesn't end happily.
On the day of the elopement, the princess wasn't at the appointed meeting place. Instead, Pirate King Morgan was greeting by a massive number of imperial soldiers. The emperor, it seems, had uncovered their plans and imprisoned the princess. Then, he had laid a trap for Pirate King Morgan.

Pirate King Morgan fought his way out despite being hugely outnumbered, but he was severely injured in the fight. He was barely able to escape and meet up with our Cap'n in an attempt to flee the Empire.



Cap'n only learned of the princess's imprisonment afterwards.
So the real Pirate King Morgan died without knowing that his love hadn't betrayed him.
But…



Up until the moment of his death, Pirate King Morgan believed with all his heart that the princess had been true to him.
And as he died for love, Pirate King Morgan had asked his twin to take his place.

And so here we are.



It's clearly not an easy story for him to tell.
So I mean it with all my heart when I thank him for telling me.
Cap'n smiles softly, and the pained look in his eyes eases a bit as he reaches towards me.

Is it finally not awkward anymore?







We've just found out that the man we're romancing lives a lie and the entire crew may wish to desert him now. But who cares? It's hug time! I'm only a little bit disgruntled by all this!

Well, holy shit. I sure as hell don't recall this from the other routes. Does this mean the Cap'n in all the other routes is a lie? Or does this backstory not even exist if you're not on this route? I really don't know how I feel about this.

Hooray! He's finally opened up to us!... Even if it only happened because of circumstance.
I'm torn between A and B, not sure what would be more appropriate.

Okay, at least we finally get some answers (although I now have even more questions than before?!) and Cap'n starts opening up to Wench again, so yay. But really .. all these twists and turns kinda come out of nowhere and there's so many of them (and there are many more to come, I guess?) that I just don't know what to make of them .. well at least with Cap'n we are never bored as it seems ;)

Uhm, and let's go with B - I think it's the most fitting here? I mean he did just tell us that he is not who we thought he is .. so yeah, we are a little nervous?!

I'd say C.

As for myself, I don't really care about who he "actually" is. We've always known him, Cap'n, and we never met his twin. He's been carrying this burden on his shoulders all by himself, he probably didn't even had the time to mourn his dead brother, and he never ever wavered or complained about those responsability he never asked for. So yeah, C. If there's a place where we can feel safe, it IS in Cap'n's arms.

I say go with C.

I'm slightly curious about what will happen if everyone deserts him and it's only wench and cap'n on the ship
But hey! That's never gonna happen .... hopefully....

Alright, I've been swayed towards voting for C. I'm curious to see what happens now that we know Cap'n's secret.

All of this. I mean, he pretty much is who we thought he was; he's just not who everyone else thought he was. And hopefully now that his secret is out he won't have a reason to stop the romance from going places.

I'm voting for A, because "I accept your embrace, yay!" seems a lot more appropriate to romance than "PROTECT ME STRONG IMPOSTOR" does. I mean, at least for the version of this romance in my head where the protagonist is a confident young woman who's making choices based on a clear-headed assessment of the options available to her and information at hand.

It also rather helps on the "You've been lying to me all along?" thing that she's only known him since after the swap; it'd be a lot more awkward if half her romance had been with a different guy.

C because feeling safe with a pirate is BIG NEWS!

I read it not so much as "protect me!" but rather "it's okay, I trust you," which is pretty significant since it's coming directly upon the heels of the revelation that he's been living an enormous lie and, even though she never knew the real Morgan, she'd be within her rights to be wary and mistrustful of this one now that it's come out how much he's been deceiving everyone around him.

Oh, hm. Sure, if I read it that way, I like it a lot more. I still prefer A, because it seems more straightforward and confident. But now I understand why people want to pick C, too.

I am so darned torn with this answer. This twin brother thing does explain a good deal of why he has been acting so strangely lately but it doesn't change the fact that he hasn't been so nice as of late. I don't really care about the twin brother thing since we never knew the original. This would probably hurt the rest of the crew more than it should Wench. However, I am going to say "A" because I am willing to give him a chance to continue this honesty with Wench since he seems to be starting now. Sharing is caring Cap'n!

I'll go for A because it seems like the more straight forward answer.

A here to actually annswer to his question, B and C seems less relevant to me. I understant A more as " I don't bloody care who you are, just kiss me, you fool!"

If there's anything we know about Morgan, it's that he likes playing hero. So in his moment of need let's let him feel like one. uwu

They drop a bunch of little, subtle hints throughout his route, but yeah I only picked up on them when I played through my second time. My friend though was able to put two-and-two together before the big reveal. >.>

I just thought one of his scorned women whacked him over the head so hard with one of his precious rum bottles that he lost his memory.
