Alan provokes such conflicting feelings in me. He's hilarious, but he does things I'm not comfortable with, but he's actually very brilliant, if... Rather unaware. And surprisingly sweet and caring. But then he does something I'm uncomfortable with again. And then he does something I find hilarious. IT'S LIKE NEURO ALL OVER AGAIN only with mild-ish sexual overtones.

However, for the sake of the vote, I'm going with C this time. It implies the trust, it's pro-active, and it's probably the wrong answer but whatever, I'm choosing that.

The kind that leaves you frustrated and furious because a good number of them don't portray same-sex relationships realistically and it's generally only done to cater to fetishes. There's a reason I fell out of the yaoi crowd despite the fact I still ship same-sex pairings. You'll occasionally find a gem, but that's after a lot of searching.

I've gotta say, the "everyone's orientation is protagonistsexual" approach is sounding better all the time. I want more dating games with decent options with more than one gender. Decent, non-creepy, non-fetish-y options. (And more trans characters who aren't played for laughs or tragedy, dammit.)

Fetishy in the Girl-on-Girl/Guy-on-Guy Is Hot variety of I don't want this in my game. If I want a same-sex option, I want a relationship, not just "YAY TWO PEOPLE OF THE SAME GENDER MAKING OUT!"

And that really depends on if your Protagonist has a defined personality or not and what idea you have for the best friend girl options.

*coughs* Or, more helpfully... there is, as Randissimo says above, a strong tendency in these games to play same-sex relationships in a way that makes it clear they're for the titillation of the opposite sex. I'm much more interested in seeing people interact in relationships that are more like real people do, and less likely creepy wank fodder. I mean, there's a place for creepy wank fodder, but...it shouldn't be the sum total of all the portrayals in media, y'know? Or even in the subset of media that "games with dating components" comprise.

2. As such, I'm looking for relationship dynamics that work the way real people do. With room for heightened exaggeration because Fiction, sure, but no less realistic than--ha--any of the heterosexual romances are. The best way to do that is to write characters as if they're People first, and as People Who Aren't Straight as one of their characteristics, rather than their primary characteristic. Design a person who might be in a relationship with someone! Have them be a relationship option! That it happens to be same-sex rather than opposite-sex should--especially in a game I'm playing for fun, not to deal with Real Life Problems--be fairly incidental.
