But I made a new one in the same place. And added up the info that was deleted. So it's basically the same stuff as before minus all of your comments.

Anyway, yay, update! I'll stop derailing now.

I believe in a thing called love! Just listen to the rhythm of my heart! I only now realize how perfectly that song suits Alan, wow new headcanon theme song.

Really, though, Alan took a lot of time and trouble to give us that information. He would gain nothing by lying, but he could get an ally if we believe him and succeed. So I think we can take the risk and trust his information.
And because I am an otome protagonist far more suitable as a stand-in Captain, Christopher listens to my decision and agrees.



The crew is still divided, but the majority consent to the plan.

So, this entire chapter was a whole lot of talking, while accomplishing nothing.
Well, if we're finding theme songs for the characters, then I think this one fits for out crew of Serious Pirates, particularly now when they're flailing about like leaderless lemmings:

... I get the feeling that Cap'n's route consists basically of you and the crew, flaying around, mostly running away from something, accomplishing nothing at all.
I mean, weren't we headed for that dreaded skull island? And then the navy stuff happened and then WAAAR. And then Cap'n's not actually Cap'n and then he disappears. And we still didn't do anything.
Dude, if by the end of the last chapter, we don't manage to end the war, get the Stone back, woo captain and find our way to Skull Island, I'll... be extremely disappointed.

At this point, I think Skull Island is just a giant McGuffin.

What's there? Why do the Serious Pirates want to find it so badly? Who knows, doesn't matter. We've got a Cap'n to find and a pirate/navy war to stop!

The crew without Cap'n is just a whole big "wat do?" moment. I don't know whether to fawn over their adorable befuddlement or send them for a leadership building exercise.

That music video. I can't. What is wrong with the music industry. The song was actually okay.

I believe it differs in every route? I remember in Patchy's route it's this "We want treasure because that's what we do" thing, and then later it turns out to be something related to Patchy's past and all that. In Alan's route it's a treasure hunt contest between the two ships, we found the treasure, then something bad happens and we have to solve it. Rather than a Macguffin, I think it's more like a backdrop setting. It's not that they want it badly, it just so happen to be something they're after at the moment. We can't have the pirates sailing aimlessly in the story, so let's have them go hunt for a vague treasure in a vague place. And then in the meantime, other stuff happens.

This story is handled rather oddly, methinks. This war thing and "Kaptein is not Kaptein" is totally sudden and came right out of nowhere. One moment we're just looking for treasure and angsting about Kaptein being mean, then BAM! A completely unrelated Big Problem shows up. No build up, nothing. You can't say "the navy captures Wench" is a setup. That's just the navy being the navy.

In Patchy's route, it's always been indicated that he has issues about the eye under his eyepatch and Moldor/Mordor. Then when the Deep Dark Backstory Of Woe is revealed, it's not too out of place and everything still goes back to the treasure hunt. In Alan's route we see that the Yamato navy is after him and he is VERY SCARED about this, so the reveal is more or less not out of place.

Kaptein... um, okay the secret about his past has somewhat of a build-up. Him being all secretive and such, that still makes sense. But the War just dropped on us like a 2-ton brick out of nowhere. I'm not even sure what is the main arc here. Kaptein's identity issues? The War? Or am I just too frazzled to think straight today?

This is precisely what's bothering me so much about Cap'n's route.
It's kinda out there and random and some plot points come from absolutely nowhere and have nothing to do with any other plot points that were brought up before.
I quite like Morgan but his route is... not one of the best ones I've seen, really.

In reverse order, thank you for the kind welcome (and to our darling LP host as well), WHAT I was just KIDDING again, and eeee a fellow Cyrano sympathiser. Do you think our combined fuzzy feelings for him could somehow will this game into existence?

Somewhere in Japan a game developer is dreaming of an eloquent Tengu in love with a human woman he grew up around but knows she ought to be with a handsome human man or something like that.

On a less thread-derailing note, I agree with the two of you above me. I haven't played this game for any route comparison, but some of it does seem to be shoehorned in with no regard for how it ties into anything else. As d_a_renoir said, a global war right out of nowhere? You've been to ports in excess, you've been sailing on seas that SURELY have other ships of some kind (not that the game gives much indication apart from Alan in your face), stirrings or unease should have been hinted at long before. Because no matter how sudden the decision is, I find it hard to believe that the entire navy can mobilise an attack force to take on all the pirates ever without anyone in these waters noticing anything suspicious before now. At the very least someone should have heard rumours of the presence of soldiers lessening in smaller towns (to bolster the main force, no doubt), or sudden organisation as opposed to mere guarding and patrolling, orders of more guns, food, hiring more hands at speed, ANYTHING.

Throw us a plot-bone plz. D:

Yea, I mean the navy themselves have to arrange their united forces.This is not like in Pirates of the Caribbean where the navy troops is just the entire fleet of the British Navy, which so happens to be mahoosive. Here it's supposed to be ALL NAVY FORCES AROUND THE WORLD BAND TOGETHER FUCK YEAH. Um. What? So why are we still able to sail around without being bombarded left and right?

A war against pirates is pretty much guerrilla war because the pirates are widespread. It's not Troop A on the left, Troop B on the right, and they crash in the middle. It's a cat-and-mouse hunt. I don't even know what is going on here. What do pirates do? Hunt treasure? But then why are the navy even after them if all they do is hunt treasure? They don't sack a port, they legitimately BUY stuff, they're not sailors who mutinied... Unless it's the other pirates who antagonize the navy, but then... wasn't there something about "the Pirate King keeps balance" or something like that? I don't know what "balance" nonsense is that all about, but come on! Isn't the King's job is to prevent this kind of World War to begin with?

Theme Park History quack setting aside, this route makes no sense!

The Captain's route is odd. Where's the romancing? It feels like half of it has been getting separated from the Captain in some way.

I guess this just really tells us what we all already know...Wench x Alan's Hat is the best pairing.

Have all of my likes and my love for this. That is my favourite play of all time.

I have no idea how that would work as a VN, though. I'm willing to try if anyone else wants to help me.

Thing is, though, are we working with the same version, here? I only ever read the original French play. If you read one of the English translations, please tell me which one it was so I can glance over it. Black Bird: Well, it had an okay concept but then someone took it and went, "Yes we have a pretty decent base here and yes we could make this into a great manga worthy of it's peers but you know what? NO F--- THAT S---! We are here to make MONEY people."

The Veggie Tales: The Pirates Who don't do Anything is actually a great comparison for this route. Because except for some parts pretty much nothing happens and what does happen doesn't seem to be related to any standing plot at any time during the route. BUT at least Captain has a fabulous hat (even if his intelligence is questionable) and he even gave it to Wench! And better yet, that Harem Boat idea might just work after all! <3
