Hm, well I've read the Brian Hooker translation. It's sadly the only one I could get my hands on a physical copy of for constant perusal, so I can't compare, but I've certainly heard it being praised as one of the better translations, if not one of the best. I have tried to go through it in French, but I'm incredibly weak at it and so wasn't able to manage much, but I do see what you mean. ^^; Ah, if only there was a way to preserve the rhyme in the poetry and the actual poetry OF the language at the same time, but as with most languages it always seems to be one or the other. I quite enjoy the Hooker version, though, so maybe it won't crush your soul TOO much.

Hopefully it won't. Cyrano de Bergerac was perfect. I mean, it got a two hour ovation on opening night. TWO HOURS! EVERYONE WAS CONVINCED IT WOULD BOMB! And now, it's become a fucking icon amongst French theatre and literature and I sit here and weep at its beauty because that play knew what it was doing. It just knew.

I will, however, give that translation a go to see what you're working with, and I can bring in some of the French if necessary.

Valentine Kingdom. In which Patchy is a nasty bastard and his CG is super-creepy and not at all romantic. Because he's Patchy and he's such a killjoy.

I gave up after the main guy's brother died a second time. The brother is a sick, twisted bastard too, but for some reason I sympathize with him, and that's obviously a sign I'm going nuts so I stopped before my brain is damaged even more.

Shame Patchy got worse in the sequel. What the hell does he do?

And I... I feel disgusted with the brother. I mean, I get he's angry he's no longer the head of the family, but fuck, no. No. I am just angry with all of the characters except for the children. They are precious and should be taken out of that house and brought somewhere safe and genuinely wholesome. Although I'm not far yet, so who knows, maybe I'll find a character I actually like! It'll probably be due to some mild form of Stockholm Syndrome or something there can be no other explanation.

I sympathize with Brother because after he died the first time, somebody brought him back as a zombie and at some point he was all 'WHY CAN'T THEY JUST LET ME DIE???" or something along that lines. Living a miserable un-life is worse than death.

I don't know how bad Patchy is in the sequel. I think he's actually pretty nice in the sequel because his CGs look sweet, but this is what his CG looks like in the Valentine spinoff:

He's still an asshat, so yeah, it's still some kind of horrible Stockholm Syndrome-y thing that made me sympathize with the guy. Plus, Brother is more handsome than whatzisname the actual love interest.

Patchy is a killjoy. That's why he's got his MAFIA BAU5 mode on in a place called VALENTINE KINGDOM.

That's not really Patchy. That's Shin, Patchy's Japanese alter-ego. Kinda makes me wonder what Eduardo looks like with his hair down, though... Maybe I should do that for my next CG Doctor case...

Oh yeah, there is definitely some Stockholm Syndrome happening for any character in this series. Except for those kids. They are fucking precious and I want only the best for them. But Jesus I feel only pain for Prptag-chan, she's stuck with insane people.

Is Shin just as much of an ass as Eduardo? Or, for that matter, is the Japanese doc just as nice as Chris?
I mean, did they only change the two guys' appearances and names to be less-Japanese and left everything else just the way is was, or did they change their personalities as well?

Shin and Patchy are carbon-copies personality-wise. All they did was change his face. If anything changed, it's probably just a few words due to translation/language equivalency/etc.

I am very much anticipating the time when they release the English release of Patchy's wedding. OH MY GOD IT'S SO SPARKLY AND PINK MY EYES. I double-checked every single Japanese blog that hosted the picture to make sure that it is indeed Shin (a.k.a Patchy) and not Soushi (a.k.a Christopher). I am both scared and excited.

Well, I don't really care what he was pointing the gun at. It's the fact that THAT was the scene Voltage chose to make a CG out of. The other routes? It was sparkly and fluffy and Thomas was being his usual adorable self... and then on Eduardo they chose to draw him being all RAWR I KILL JOO. Even if it's for a good reason... really? Can't they pick a better scene to highlight?

How does Patchy shoot with the eyepatch on?

With his gun. He doesn't shoot laser beams from his eyes like Cyclops from Xmen :/

Seeing as he wears it all the time, I think it's safe to say he's learned to adapt. Not the smartest move, but this is fiction, anything goes.

I would say that he's able to shoot well even with an eyepatch because "he's just plain awesome".
But truth be told, he's a total asswad! Even toward the end of his route, he was still calling MC "asshole". He seriously called me an asshole twice.

I liked him because my inner "I can change him, mama!" is totally all over him. I will fix your asshattery, Patchy, with the power of MY LOVE. And because he's hot. But he's still an asshat. Also because if I like someone enough I actually would do some of the stuff Heroine does in Patchy's route, so I can sort of relate.

Randissimo, I read (and own) the Barnes and Noble version translated by Gertrude Hall. I would say it's pretty good. Also, your post made me realize I can actually read this one in the original French--which is now on my to do list.

Do it. The original will blow you away. It really will. It's just perfect.

Though the story of Shin/Eduardo's CG makes me uncomfortable (killing no ;-;), I do like the CG itself. I prefer the dramatic action scenes over the cute'n'fluffy. Shut up I like manly men okay.

And don't even get me started on how badly I wanted a CG of Morgan slaying the hydra or defeating the Navy. I just-

No, actually, Voltage FINALLY hired a new artist. That's why Patchy didn't look as shitty in the Valentine Kingdom CG. Maybe New Artist forgot the bling, maybe they just thought he'd look better without it, whatever.

(also, the new Shin CGs actually can be passed off as "Eduardo with his hair down" that Voltage wouldn't even need to change his hair anymore. Just look at the sparkly wedding picture I attached a few posts above)

Though my headcanon that his jewelry is actually a coat clasp and that's how he keeps it on is now null and void. Time to resort to magic. o3o

Have you seen the "Two Years Later" CGs for Thomas? They're just as cavity-inducing sweet and there's a rainbow.

I'm not particularly fond of Thomas precisely because he's so cavity-inducing. I don't play Pirates for sparkle and rainbows =______=

Which is why Shin's wedding picture pretty much killed me. It's so sparkly and SO MUCH PINK and out of character I can't even begin to imagine what would they do when they port that story as Eduardo. Redraw it as something else?
