Just to be clear, I can't download from gamefaqs on the vita, right? Because no matter how hard I poke my screen, it tells me no. Should I try gently caressing it instead?

Oh, on the Vita. No, you have to download the save onto your computer first and then transfer it. Sorry for the confusion.

I have FES and I never played the Answer past the first 5 minutes. I really didn't like it at all.

As for Akihiko, I think he's adorkable. He's my favorite main P3 character (My favorite P3 character in general is Akinari) and he's even more loveable in P3P.

But...Am I the only one who likes Keisuke and doesn't like Ryoji though?

I mean, I remember December being an incredibly fucking depressing month, especially since no one wants to dungeon crawl, nobody wants to hang out, you've probably finished most of your non-team S.Links and are relegated to hanging around with bitter old men at the mall in the evenings and the dying guy at the shrine on Sunday, but for me it really brought home how hard Ryoji's revelation hit everyone and how grim the situation was. After the events of October and November and the realization that the world is about to end and you can't stop it and it's happening in large part because of you, there's no way that December should be business as usual. I didn't see the other characters "complaining" or suggesting giving in so much as I saw them struggling through their own feelings about the situation to reach a personal resolution within the time remaining. And I really liked seeing them each individually come to that resolution before New Year's Eve, and how by the time of the decision, none of them are wavering except possibly you yourself.

Incidentally, you guys know there's going to be a P3 anime, right? It kind of surprised me - I figured it wouldn't fly with all P3's copious suicide imagery - but I guess they're going ahead with it based on the success of the P4 anime.

Of course it's male protagonist route, so who cares.

Wait what? Wasn't there already something called Trinity Soul or something that was based off P3?

Yeah, I thought your party members were all pretty good about the whole last month to live before the hopeless battle with extinction itself thing. You can tell they've figured things out for themselves and made up their minds.

Apropos of which, that makes it so much more awful if you just decide to give up yourself and pretty much stab that determination in the back. There are a few games that do the whole "Throwaway game over ending if you pick the wrong choice" thing but I never saw it executed as well as in P3. It's the combination of your terrible, cowardly betrayal, the fact that you've just nixed the memory of most of your friendships in a game about building relationships and the way the ending leaves the actual destruction of the world to your guilty imagination. I can't think of many times a video game has made me feel so downright awful about myself, even though I'd saved and was just picking the option to see what happens.

There was, but it was a very non-canon spinoff only loosely connected with the original game by the presence of an older Akihiko and the basic concept of Personas (which work rather differently in that version). The new anime is apparently going to be a movie adaptation of the game itself... although how they'll cram everything into the length of a feature film, I'm not sure.

I totally agree, and what really makes it even worse for me is that, if you do choose to betray their determination and take away their chance to fight... they'll never even know, because they won't remember it was ever an issue. Talk about "what you are in the dark."

I think we used similar reasoning to come to the opposite conclusion. I figured that since the world was possibly about to end and they were undeniably a part of that, it wasn't the time for personal reflection and feelings so much as it was the time for training as much as possible to kill the demon you helped unleash. The only person who was saying Nyx can't be killed was Ryoji, whom I tended to dislike, so I just saw Nyx as another shadow to be put down.
Anyway, P3 anime, huh? I kinda hope that the moral guardians finally find out about this series just so I can see them react to teens shooting themselves in the head to summon monsters.

That's interesting; didn't really get that impression at all, and found Yukari's struggle in particular pretty realistic and heart-wrenching. I wonder if that could be voicework difference (played it with the Japanese sound, the NA version in general felt dub-level unbearable)

While on the subject of differences, i actually like the male PC in P3 being not all group hugs and rainbows. It feels better fitting the game overall. But then i'm more of a cat person so maybe that has something to do with it -- it was almost like playing through proxy than 3rd person experience. If it makes any sense.

Yeaahhh, this is probably part of it. Overall I really disliked P3's voice acting (except Mitsuru and the male characters who were all actually quite decent), and Yukari just annoyed me. Annoyed me! Yukiko in P4 was the only voice I hated but the rest of the main cast's voices I loved, so that's probably part of why I like it better. Maybe I should try and find an undubbed version, hmmm. :<

I might be one of the few people who finds both games' voice acting stilted and uneven in quality. As someone who loves dialogue, it drives me nuts when voice actors put emphasis on what's clearly the wrong word or syllable, or the tone shifts completely from line to line, making it obvious that each actor was trying to do a different take on the scene.

The voice acting for both games is hit and miss. There are some standouts (Junpei, Ryoji, Yosuke) and some not so good ones (Fuuka, Chie, Yukiko). But either way, I didn't mind the voices overall.

Sorry I stopped replying last night. I tried multiple times, but my posts weren't going through. I had issues with teh BF server that never got better. It's been increasingly a problem for me lately.

I agree with everything you said. Particularly, I agree that they took a lot of things people asked for after playing P3 and tried to perfect them in P4 and made a much better game. I never found the humor annoying, it was a welcome break from the gloomier aspects of the game, and I especially enjoyed the chance to bond with the other characters. The stupid culture festival is one of my favorite scenes because of what you can lure out of Yosuke's mouth. xD

Strain42 is really nice. I've talked to him online a few times, particularly while he was working on P4TW. Just the nicest dude, very enthusiastic and cool.

There's something called "P3 undub" which basically replaces NA voices in english version of the game with the original ones. A sample of it is here It's probably worth getting for the final battle arcana bits alone.

Yeahhh, generally I agree. It's just that the P3 voices felt more miss than hit to me, while the P4 voices were more hit than miss? If that makes sense.

Ooooh, I didn't like Ryoji's all that much. And I didn't mind Chie's voice acting either, it was all right after I got used to it (except for "AHA. IS THIS OUR CHANCE." which was atrocious and should be Galactic Punted into orbit, and also Naoto's battle lines are just... kinda horrible.)

Junpei's voice acting was really great and was probably my favourite in P3 next to Mitsuru, but Yosuke's voice acting makes me melt. EVERY TIME. He got that perfect goofy boy-next-door timbre that just makes me go "KYAA KYAA *sparkle*" whenever he opens his mouth. Gah if there only was a way to keep his voice in English (because I've heard his Japanese voice actor and I HATE IT OH MY GOD WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY GORGEOUS YOSUKE VOICE) while turning the other voices into Japanese. :(

I think Fuuka single-handedly ruined P3 for me. Every time she opened her mouth I wanted to throw something at the screen. Yukiko's kind of like that for me in P4 as well to a lesser-degree. The lisssssping makes me want to strangle her, god DAMN it woman start talking properly or I'll rip out your tongue you AARGGGHHH. It's kinda horrible that she's such a good healer so I was torn between keeping her on my team for that purpose (like goddamned Yukari) or just benching her in favour of Kanji or Teddie for the rest of the game.

I'm sorry. I'm just... really sensitive to bad acting. OTLlll

They recorded new lines for him in P3P. His Rank 9 S.link and the final confrontation (when you choose whether to kill him or not) was really really well done, imo. He has the same VA as Yosuke.

I'm actually not sure which save to use from the ones you linked me! I don't think any of the USA ones have a female MC, but does that matter?

Oh, duh. Yeah, I knew that but somehow I managed to repress the memory of reading about it - probably from the trauma of having a different Teddie voice. Does he really sound exactly the same? Because I listened to some P4 Arena trailers and his voice sounds really different. Also I really like the new Chie, from what little I've heard of her so far!

He hadn't really gotten into his groove in Arena. In Golden, I just stopped noticing that there was a different voice actor after Yosuke's shadow.
Fair warning: Chie's new voice actor has the annoying tendency to lisp. She doesn't do it in Arena and she doesn't do it all the time in Golden, but it's fucking enraging when she does.

Nope. A NG+ save lets you keep all of your stuff but you get to choose your gender when you start. If you'd like, I could give you my NG+ save data. Not as swanky as some of these, but you'll never have to grind.

I actually didn't really like Junpei in FES, I think I spent way too much time in Tartarus and his "check out my fat lewts." just stopped being funny after the fifth time.

As far as voice acting in P3 goes, I liked Junpei, my hatred of Vic miasdisaohda be damned. Fuuka really got on my nerves, though, and I desperately wanted to punt her into the side of a moving truck she was so obnoxious to me.

All I'll say is that I liked the voice acting in P4 a whole lot more (nanakoooooo~<3 adachiiiiii <3333). I don't know what they did from a directing standpoint, but I want them to DO IT AGAIN.

Plot's the same, just got some girl-specific dialogue changes for little things.

I think most of the dub voicework in P3 was decent... except maybe the times Fuuka went particularly mono or when Aigis overdoes the "I. Am. A. Robot." thing or when Ken says anything sounds kinda gruff.

I know there's a P4 thread now but while I'm on the subject, I love all the dub voices. All of them. Supporting cast included. I've actually been heavily exposed to both Japanese and English voices and I can say I prefer the dub. The only one I don't think was that great was Yukiko but I didn't dislike it as much as I found her uninteresting.
And I really liked Chie's voice (Not as much as Rise though~) because she sounded like a teenager I would know... I can't get behind her new VA. I've listened to it a lot and I just can't. I don't even think it's because it's so different, I just don't think it's good.
Also, MulMizu, your statement with that gif freaked me out a little o_O

The main plot plays out mostly the same in P3P as a girl, but most Social Links are completely different. A lot of characters are replaced entirely. (I always really liked Saori, even if she looks like she came from the first Persona game)

There are a number of improvements in Portable, not the least of which is direct party control, but additionally they've moved in an equivalent of the fox from Persona 4, so you can heal outside of the dungeon and restore SP. If you're not going to play the epilogue (I recommend against it - in addition to being kind of boring, it makes definite something left vague at the end of the game itself that was better off up in the air) and you're not attached to being able to run around in the real world environments (I was put off at first, but I eventually adapted - there's less stuff embedded in the real-world environment than in 4 anyway), it's probably better to just go straight to the Vita if you have the choice.

FeMC is definitely superior, but Ishida Akira is my favorite male seiyuu so I can't complain too much about this. Makoto Yuuki, though, huh... Interesting name.

They should have made his last name start with a C, that way I could still call him MC.

Judging by the amount of porn links I get when I look Makoto Yuki up on Google, it has to be one of the most unfortunate name choices of the year.
