I don't suggest it. This game. Is long. ATLAS. Hates it. Or it hates ATLAS. Either way, there is hatred happening and not the foe yay variety.

Not to mention how unforgiving it is.

If anyone wants to, though, by all means, go for it! I just don't suggest you do. I'm already regretting the fact I am, but we all know I enjoy proving why I was this forum's original M.

Does this mean you would LP a game if you had the guides?

  4. I've fought this game so many times it doesn't even faze me anymore. I have a dedicated "Alice" computer with perma-settings just so I can slog through.

Noooo, noooo, Randissimo is just....exaggerating....Alice is a friendly game! Really! :D

About three hundred turns, if the information is correct (no one knows anymore), responsibility points (which are bad), you have to gain specific affection for other characters along with the LI you're romancing for some, the game just gets. Worse. In the best ways. But it hurts.

LAUGHING SO HARD not really I'm crying

Question, guys: Seeing as I seemed to have problems with this last time, how do I get ATLAS and ITH to translate options? Because there's one right after the naming screen and I could cry.

Edit: And if someone could give me the kanji for Rolina's name, I'd appreciate it, too, so I can add it to the list.
  10. I cannot moon rune. But. As far as translating options, this is where the "you have to scroll through the threads until you find the one that hooks the dialogue trees" comes into play.

Also, I think it's asking you (if i remember right) if you want to skip the prologues or not, in which case, no, you do not.
  11. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

That's why I was freaking out. Because I don't want to skip them. (Not just for the LP but because I enjoy trudging through these things repetitively since I seem to enjoy that) and then the consequences.

BUT GODDAMN I NEED TO FIND NEW THREADS FOR THE OPTIONS? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT.

But thank you for answering! *off to try to screenshot some of the route, hopefully*

... Also, where do I save once the game starts?

If it helps, that's the code they recommend you append onto your 'target' line when making your game shortcut. Can't remember if that last bit with the w hooks the choices or not. To save, you right click and it opens the save window. I'm pretty sure about that. You have a bazillion save slots, so, save early and often.

  13. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

Let me try updating this thing. At least up until the first option, before I start crying.

TIME TO PRESS PLAY TAKE THE RED PILL!

... Wait, I striked the wrong part. OH WELL.

And here I present to you our beautiful otome protagonist, Alice! Believe me, she takes after her original counterpart quite a bit, as will be shown later on.

There's not much I can really say about her without spoiling, but I will say this: QuinRose claims her age to be "the age of the player", but quite a few people seem convince she's around 18 years old. So for purposes of this LP and, well, because I can, Alice will be eighteen years old. What, me, eighteen myself? Psh, what made you say that?

Here's the character name screen. For the sake of keeping myself sane and because I generally keep the MC's original name as it is, I present to you Alice Liddell! Let me just say I broke out my online Japanese Lesson page and compared each Katakana to its romaji. I'm learning things like this.

... You know, it just hit me that NG stands for No Good. How did I miss this, I've been reading Skip Beat for the past couple of days. Shame, self. Shame.

    ALRIGHT FELLAS, LET'S GOOOOOOO!

*JUMPS* JESUS CHRIST THAT WAS OMINOUS did I just sign a deal with the devil oh good lord this is Neuro's fault isn't it?

A-anyway, this is just to confirm that we are now Alice=Liddell. (The game has a habit of replacing the space between names with an equal sign for artistic reasons. I have no complaints.)

And just because I want to confirm that I can save whenever, I right click and am greeted with this:

Sweet, blissful reassurance. Save is the fourth one starting from the last option, right? Or is that load?

Well, time to throw myself head first down a rabbit hole!
  14. I got this! The three-character option that begins with the little box (fourth from the bottom) is "load". The one right above it is "save".

I always figured NG stood for "no go" or "no good". Cutesy like that.

Oh, now you tell me I can get to the menu via right-click. Ffjisjfioajsfiojsdiofjdsaifjsijfs-- *takes a deep breath* Moving on.

This screen is basically asking me if I want to skip the prologue.

My options are to skip only the first prologue, all of the prologues, only the second prologue, or none of them. Seeing as skipping anything gives you Responsibility Points (which are very, very bad and undesirable), one each, and getting four total results in you getting a nonstandard game over/bad end, I can assure you, I am not going to be skipping anything. <3 I'd like to live, thank you.

And for the duration of the prologues, I'll be combining the translators' translations with the one done over here, because I like giving my own take to things. I have no regrets.

    Hey, did you know?

Holy frick, all I can hear are ticking clocks. Is it bad that the first thing I thought of was Majora's Mask? Because this BGM is reminding me of that.

All games have rules. Rules that need to be followed. Rules that have been decided from the beginning.

Why is there suddenly a light. I don't like where this is going.

You must participate in the game: That is also a rule. A rule decided from the start.

... So, about my previous theory that I had signed a contract with the devil...

Oh I had forgotten how much I love Alice's clothes including that bow. Oh I have read all six volumes of the manga.
One thing bothering me is how in one volume it is implied Alice is slowing becoming a faceless, a pawn person.

Here's to hoping we're not dead.

When I opened my eyes, I was greeted with a familiar view.

... So we live in Princess Peach's castle? FUCK YES! I guess this is what they meant by game, then? That our princess was in another castle and we'd have to follow the damn formula? Spoilers: There is no princess. There is, however, a damn fine queen.

A garden with blooming flowers on a beautiful and peaceful day.

Just be careful of the Piranha plants and we're all good.

    Alice: "... My head hurts."

Because I sat up too quickly, my head was throbbing.

I feel your pain, Alice. Let me hold you.

Lorina: "Again? Was it because you slept outside, Alice?"

.... Since when does sleeping outside on a warm day induce headaches unless you're in the sun for too long? ALSO, SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE TO FIND THAT - IN JAPANESE TEXT. IT'S NOT TRANSLATING LORINA'S NAME PROPERLY, I DON'T THINK. Oh, and the kanji for Onee-chan or whatever Alice uses. Please and thank you.

    Alice: 'Ah, she's so graceful...'

I... Guess? Also, time to copy @maniskumquat's method of portraying dialogue. Since screenshot-ing the whole thing when only the corner sprite changes is taking up space.
  27. Time for Narcolepsy-sensei's "Favorite Engrish moments" game!

So, in one of my translations, instead of 'beautiful garden blooming with flowers' I got "floriferous garden". I loved it. I don't care if it wasn't a word before. Alice's garden is now FLORIFEROUS. Because Japan.

  29. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

Just a rule of thumb: If there are no quotation marks ("words"), then it's a thought. Any text from the game is in bold, my thoughts are in normal font, like this. .... *considers changing the font entirely for dialogue and thoughts*

    ...................

Okay, new rule: Bolded text is from game. Helvetica is narration from Alice. (Word.) Georgia is thoughts Alice has between parenthesis, with an added single quotation around the text. ('Word.'). Spoken dialogue is Andale Mono with a double quotation mark around the text. ("Word."). I have no regrets.

[IMG]: Though I had just woken up, the thought simply popped into my mind. Granted, I always thought my sister was beautiful. Though she may not be flashy and colourful like some other women, she still shines in my eyes. Her laughter, to me, is comparable to a flower. Perhaps I'm simply exaggerating, but I feel the description is appropriate.

[IMG]: In my case, however, it's a different story. ... Maybe this is what people mean when they say sisters are close. (?)

I have... No idea what that last line was trying to convey. I'm assuming it's a Japanese expression that doesn't really have an English equivalent, and much as I'd like to try translating the games to French, I don't really trust the current Japanese-French dictionary they have up. Ah well.

Lorina: "Alice, you're a grown woman now: You should try acting more gracefully."

TO HELL WITH GRACEFULNESS, I SAY! Not really, I'm just really awkward, leave me alone.

[IMG]: Though my sister is chiding me, she does so in a gentle and well-meaning manner. Because our parents are so busy, she has since taken on the role of being my mother. I usually respond with an enthusiastic "Yes!" to what she says since I don't want to cause her trouble by rebelling.

And yet, you look far from happy while saying that. I sense impending trouble.

[IMG]: 'I wonder if someday, I'll be as lady-like as her...' ...............

[IMG]: ..... No, that's an impossible goal.

[IMG]: Considering the fact I still fall asleep in our garden, that day is far away.

Oh dear, this is going to be relevant, isn't it?
  30. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

I am so calling my mother's garden FLORIFEROUS from now on.

The way I do it, I use Fraps and just spam F10. Then I pick and choose from the screenshot folder which pictures I like, in sequential order.

  34. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

CHANGING FONT THEN NOT A BIG DEAL I have the same problem
  35. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

Before anyone asks, yes, I picked the fonts with names that amused me over style. Leave me alone. Also, switching internal thoughts from Helvetica to Georgia because I barely see parenthesis thoughts and Georgia's prettier. THIS IS MY LP I'LL DO WHAT I WANT WITH THE TEXT FORMATTING.

    At any rate, CG TIME!

Alice: While still lying down sloppily on the grass beside my sister, I roll over so that I can face her. To me, our current positions are fitting. I'm happy with just being around Lorina: She's easy to admire. This is why I love Sundays. Though it's troublesome having to deal with waking up early to go to church, I feel as though these warm afternoons heal me.

[IMG]: "...... Somehow, I had a strange dream." I rolled over as I spoke, hoping to make this moment more enjoyable. (?)

Something about not wanting this time to end was the gist of it, though I have trouble understanding how it relates to her previous statement.

I'm also regretting not screenshoting Lorina's face so I could use it to mark when she's speaking. I'll know for the next batch!

Lorina: "A dream? What kind of dream was it?"

[IMG]: What kind... Well, it wasn't a pleasant dream. It certainly wasn't suitable for the beauty of this garden, at any rate. It was a dark dream filled with pain and sadness. Everything felt heavy and gloomy. I had the sensation I was falling down somewhere deep. And though it was only a dream, I felt as though there was no way for me to return... (?)

Whether she means she can't return to that dream of return from that dream, I'm unsure. The translations don't seem to agree on this, though I have a pretty good guess. By which I mean I was spoiled but I'm probably wrong anyway.

[IMG]: "............" Yet it wasn't a nightmare. That's the curious part. Though I can't go back, I don't feel fear or despair, but relief. It was gloomy and oppressive, and yet, it was as though I had found some peace of mind.

[IMG]: "Hmm... I don't remember the details... There was something about a game and there being rules..."

Lorina: "Game? You want to play a game, Alice? I see... I'm really sorry, I should have noticed earlier; I was just so engrossed in this book."

... So you're one of those people who miss the point and assume things. Okay. *not impressed*

[IMG]: "Eh? No, it's not like that, Lorina! Please don't worry about it."

[IMG]: Recently, Lorina's boyfriend has become a writer, so she's been polishing her reading skills ever since. I don't have a problem with her being an avid reader. It's not like I'm a child who needs constant attention, after all, and I don't want to interrupt her while she's enjoying her book. I wish to avoid bothering and saddening my sister, above all else.

I sense impending plot relevance. I have throughout the prologue, actually, but then, that's the point.

Lorina: "Not at all, dreams are said to be the expression of one's desires. I read that in a psychology book recently. Er, if I'm not mistaken, it was Freud's dream theory, right? That the meaning of a dream is simply the reflection of one's desires. Of course, not all dreams can be classified as such, but there are many in which one's desires are represented through symbols."

................. WAS FREUD EVEN PUBLISHED AT THIS POINT IN TIME? Oh good Lord, help me, they're quoting the crackpot.

Also, Andale Mono, as much as I love your name and style, you're too small for me to read, so I'm going to change you next update. I'm sorry, I'm still toying around with this baby.

Augh, Game, no. Please. I don't like the 'sisters secretly being jealous of eachother' thing. My sister and I adore eachother; lemme see a fictional representation of that instead.
  39. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

I can assure you, having been spoiled, it's a lot more complex than that.

AND THAT'S ALL I'M SAYING ON THE SUBJECT MOVING ON.
  40. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

So I went on a quick search on Wikipedia, and there is no way Freud was published when Alice was 18. I mean, if she was ten when the original book was published in 1862, and she was born in 1852, Freud is younger than her by four years, which means he hadn't even graduated from university at this point in time. YOU FAIL HISTORY FOREVER, QUINROSE. (I call artistic license AU.)

At any rate, where were we? Lorina quoting a book that shouldn't have even been published yet?

Another note: Georgia font are thoughts, Helvetica is dialogue. Because it's easier for me to read that.

[IMG]: "Wow, sis, you're very well-informed!"

So well informed, in fact, that she's getting her information from the future.

[IMG]: I'm not sure how else to react. I admire my sister since I've never even heard of Freud before. (Not surprising, he wasn't famous yet.) My sister's simply amazing: Not only is she kind and clever, but she's in love, too.

[IMG]: She's everything that I'm not. Though we're related, we're vastly different. Because my ideal concept of what a lady should be like is always near me, I feel as though it avoids me entirely. It's not that my sister didn't raise me well. Rather, I feel it's as if I don't even want to try competing with her.

[IMG]: "Say, what book are you reading now? ... Is it the one about psychology?"

Lorina: "Oh, this book? Well... I guess you could say that. It's a novel, but it's more like a fairy tale."

[IMG]: "Fairy tale?" I stare in surprise.

Lorina: "Just because it's a fairy tale doesn't mean you should look down on it. Even stories intended for children contain a moral and a lesson when you look more closely."

Well that definitely confirms this is set in the Victorian Era, at least.

[IMG]: "Ah... I wasn't looking down on it. I was simply surprised that you would be reading that kind of book."

[IMG]: My sister can usually be found reading difficult books. Meanwhile, I generally can't make it through the first chapter without falling asleep.

Subtle parallel to book!Alice claiming all novels should be made of just illustrations is a go. It's the little things that make me smile.

Lorina: "Usually, it's easy to grasp the lesson within the story. But this fairy tale... It's... Easy, and yet, it's difficult."

    [IMG]: "What do you mean?"

She means she's stumped for once and just doesn't want to admit it. It means it's relevant to our interests since this is somehow going to have an impact on the plot, that's what.
