Well, let's put it this way, I owned both of those movies on VHS, so they came out a while ago :) I guess they'd be considered 'classics' in the anime world. South Park did a parody of it at some point, so it's pretty famous here.

A few years ago there was talk of a live action Akira movie being filmed. It enraged everyone because they were going to have non-Asians in the title roles (I think Justin Timberlake or Leonardo Dicaprio) was one of them) and it would have been a horrible abomination. The combined anger of all the 30+ year old anime fans on the internet made them decide not to do it, I think.

Neither of those two movies were for kids either. Not at all. Just like your awesome clip above, too much blood with combined apocalyptic scenarios. At one point, Tetsuo (the guy with the glass in his foot) takes out the Japanese military and splatters people with his mind

I never found any ecchi or too violent anime in the TV. Only the classics like Naruto, Pokemon, Digimon, Sakura, Sailor Moon and that kinda stuff.

I think Death Note too, but I probably wasn't aware of it at the time it was on TV. Anyway, I rather watch this stuff in Japanese. The Portuguese dubbing tries to mimic the Japanese girls' thin voice, but it gets too unnatural, whiny and annoying.

They would never show this kind of thing on TV in the US. Too much nudity. Ultraviolence is OK, though.

Really, the Portuguese voice actors try to mimic that? American one's don't, but I always watch them subbed because the American voice actors never seem to get the inflections right.

They do show a lot of semi-erotic scenes in TV here at late hours, nothing explicit, but man, it's in video! Much worse than manga semi-nudity.

EDIT 2 - Notice how you can see in certain parts that the voice actor's voice isn't that thin, but she tries to.

Americans seem to be of the opinion that looking at naked people is wrong (except for late night pay channels), but that violence is okay.

You'd think it would be the opposite. Normal, healthy human beings will at some point see another human naked, but hopefully not see someone being shot or beaten up.

Brazil's TV doesn't have much violence at all.

And there's also a kid's music competition where they dress and dance sensually like adults. That must be the pedobears' favorite TV program ever.
