I quit the regular Harvest Moon after the sun and water points made it hard for me to grow crops. And then I discovered the merits of Rune Factory.

If you give him an old coin he says "Is this for me? This is one of my favorite foods. You've made me very happy. It's amazing that you can be so considerate so naturally. I'm certain that you'll go far, (name)."
And his purple event is ridiculously annoying.

I have never played Harvest Moon, but you guys have finally gotten me interested enough to give it a try.

But goddamn it, Allen, WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN A KIDS' GAME? GTFO.
  5. Eboby Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Am I the only person who played the console Harvest Moon games because they genuinely had fun farming, or saving the town? I seriously always lost interest at the point where I'm supposed to make my character marry somebody.

Oh wait, right, everyone in this subforum plays otome games. I'm totally the only one that just wanted to farm.
  6. Davian Korran Misérable Bard

I don't play... them much, actually. I cannot social, not with pixel boys either unless they're Ayato Kamishiro. I'd totally play it to farm. I loved SimFarm as a kid.

I recommend Friends/More Friends of Mineral Town and Harvest moon DS/DS cute for handheld consoles. They were the most fun.

I like the farming :3 I always get excited when I find new seeds unlocked (MAXIMUM SEEDS, here I come!) and recently I've become infatuated with growing an Alpaca army~ I just like to get married for full completion and so that my farmer won't be forever alone like I probably will be.
  9. Eboby Already Beat BF's New Expansion

I loved the early ones for farming. A Wonderful Life for the Game Cube was my favorite because I could breed livestock and make my own A grade crops without things getting too ridiculously complicated. I think that one ends after the first year, though, if you don't marry somebody.

And Kaimeanogo, MAXIMUM seeds are seriously the best thing to which anyone can aspire in those games. <3
  10. Donmai Hatoful Pigeon

I remember playing Friends of Mineral Town for five in-game years before discovering "oh hey, you can marry people" and being really offended Mary and Gray didn't invite me to their wedding. I can't remember which year I stopped at, but I'm pretty sure it was at least 15 since I remember at least three shooting star events and I heard you get one of the vacation houses by being married for 50 years? So basically everyone in Mineral Town is immortal?

I played DS cute first and it took me around three years before I finally managed to get married. Since Kai only went in the summers I had plenty of time to become MAXIMUM farmer and get all of the blessed tools, befirend all of the sprites so I could plant crops on every single square of land, and have the maximum amount of animals you can have in the game. I stopped playing once I got all of the upgrades I possibly could and unlocked all of the recipes. Fun :D

A wonderful life/ Another wonderful life are the only games where your character actually ages, but somehow the other villagers don't. I'm sure they'll make a game down the line where everyone isn't immortal maybe.

As a kid, all I played we're adventure games but had I ever bought Harvest Moon and known how to play it (we had Animal Crossing for a while but had no clue how to play it properly so we returned it), I would have loved it, maybe. ... Actually, I'm lying, I don't think I would have been patient enough for it.

Heck, when I found out dating some existed I was surprised and then promptly got into the Kuni No Alice series.

But nothing beats the RareWare games for me.

All I do is give my future husband a gift then go on my merry way to do farm stuff. They don't make it very important interacting with other characters in the games :l once I finish all of the farming chores I have nothing to do. (I like how much personality the characters had in the older games. I spent my free time making friends with them it was a lot more fun) Now I'm even anti-social in videogames hahaha /sobbing
  16. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

When I found out RPGs existed and there were occasionally romance sidequests, I flipped out. Everyone ends up becoming my friend if possible. All I do is build up approval.

Growing flowers has become infinitely fun right now :D I'm going to be occupied forever making everything perfect.
  18. Davian Korran Misérable Bard

My first DA2 run I ignored rivalry. I was EVERYBODY'S FRIEND and in a game not built to support that, it made for one hell of a confused acting Hawke.

The first Harvest Moon I played was Harvest Moon 64, and I adored that game.
    Why did I play?
    FESTIVALS.
I loved the festivals. Every time a festival was about to come up I hardly had the patience to get through all of my daily chores. I was determined to win every contest and make every festival amazing. Farming helped towards that goal.
Now, I get so disappointed when festivals come up in the newer games. I don't know if they just aren't as good or if being older I just don't have the same mindset anymore. I kind of leaning towards the former.

Also: I always get this weird crush on Popuri's parents, especially her mom. I feel only apathy towards Popuri. I don't know what that's about.

Same. Popuri is just...I don't know I've never liked her even though she's sweet and everything. Ann's always been my favorite.
  21. Heron Oh, Come On

I remember playing More Friends of Mineral Town, and I didn't know about giving people presents. I was so frustrated that Rick didn't like me. I TALKED TO YOU CONSTANTLY! WHY DO YOU LOVE CHICKENS MORE THAN ME?!
  22. Eboby Already Beat BF's New Expansion

If I had to get my character married, I arbitrarily wooed the blonde on top of just giving everyone gifts because I could.

And I just remembered that Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon is a thing that exists. That one is the best game out of the series.
I think I still have my copy somewhere. BRB, gunna go be an android.

I am a hoarder. I never sell games unless I 100% them or am absolutely sure I will never play again. I have ancient games sitting in cupboards because I might want to play Zoo Tycoon again someday (I will never, but I'm still reluctant to part with the discs).
  26. Davian Korran Misérable Bard

I haven't sold a game ever since I sold my leafgreen version and then realized I want it back! So I bought it again and I have a good thirty games in my ds case. It's just that I didn't have a psp when he sold his Innocent life and harvest moon boy and girl games so I never thought I'd be able to play them again. It never occurred to me that I'd eventually get a psp hahaha silly past self.

I never get rid of anything I paid for with my own money. It's sort of nice that if I'm ever strapped for cash all I need to do to pay my rent is sell my yellow Pikachu GBC and two The Cure CDs. Not that I ever will. They're mine, ya hear me? MINE.

Best festivals were best. I loved that egg hunting festival. Won every year. And the Harvest festival (even if winning seems to be by chance).
Also, Karen. Alcoholic, tsundere, original Karen <3

okay, so "alcoholic" isn't really a good thing, but I felt like it added a layer a realism to the game that the rest of the girls lacked; also, family dysfunction.

Actually, I could be wrong about this, but I took a Child Development class about a year ago and I remember learning that for the first two weeks after conception, the mother can still drink alcohol without and adverse effects. After that, though, you gotta watch it.
