Not just you. I feel bad because she's describing pretty much the closest thing an AI can feel to deep physical violation, but my first thought is always "No, not on this play through."

What suprises me is her using the f word.

What this makes me think is how exactly how the universe considers the theory of though. The way the setup is, it seems to imply that only the memories of Hyun-ae were copied - which would suggest that the memories are the only thing that contains the sense of self. (which I think goes against the normal scientific oppinion - but don't hold me up on that)

The way I think about it, would you not just have ended up with a copy of *Mute that had Hyen-ae's memories but otherwise acted the same?

Not what it says at all though, it implies it copies her entire neural map and dumps it into an AI architecture that was a second copy of Mute, but overrwrites *Mute-2.

That raises another question though; was Mute created the same way?

It's possible, since her memories were wiped in whatever caused the society reset, but I'd consider it somewhat unlikely just because I don't know why you'd need human memories for a security AI (and she must have still been the security AI in the past, because the people post-reset definitely wouldn't know how to reprogram her.)

If you have the time and are interested, take a look at this story. It concerns a future in which people discover it is basically impossible to create AIs that do not hate humanity, and that mind uploading is the only way they can make it work.

Interesting. It's entirely possible that's how it works, and maybe we'll find out in the sequel.

Just posting to say I love this LP, especially after the first Analogue one. I like seeing how *Mute treats you as a guy; I didn't have any problem getting her ending as a girl.

I think *Mute's run is officially Gross. Like, I wanted to like her, but all I see from her is hating Hyun-ae(for not 100% invalid reasons) and being sexist and weird. Is there more that I'm skipping because I'm just so grossed out? I'm hoping she's more balanced in the harem route. Otherwise I'm going to headcanon that Mute is actually also a copy of the security system put in place by a sick, sick person and they are why society devolved, as the system was able to enforce these sexist beliefs onto people until they were accepted.

I really want to like your posts for effort but they just .. Mute is so convincingly icky I almost want to go find other posts of yours and like them instead. I want you to get credit for your efforts but.. but.. icky. So please take my 'I'm really grateful you're doing this but I just.. can't.. like.." points.

First, she's a product of her culture. Unlike Hyun-ae she has no memories of the more advanced culture that produced her; she's no worse (and probably a lot better, what with speaking her mind and swearing and generally being her own person) than just about any other woman would have been at the time.

And, yeah, she's sexist. And somewhat homophobic, although she'll still go with you if you're female. And if you find this irredeemably gross, then yeah, her route isn't going to be fun. There are some logs I didn't post, the ones where she talks about being a part of the Smith family and working for the empress and mourning her best friend, that show a more pleasant side of her personality, but they're in the other thread and I didn't want to be repetitive. I said from the first post that it was pretty necessary to read the other thread to get the full story, and only getting to see these less pleasant sides of her is a part of that.

I like her route. I don't think it's objectively any grosser than Hyun-ae's. But it all comes down to personal taste, and I'm fine with you not liking the posts if it's completely against your ideals.

Could you spoiler-tag what happens if you play as a girl? If it's significantly different I can replay and put the alternate dialogue up.

No, the dialogue in the end scene at least is the same but I /think/ the pic might be different. It's been a while.

Hmmm, I wouldn't say there'd be a different ending graphic, because you can see them all in the bonus content screen and there's only 5 options. Maybe you just remembered differently?

She certainly looks different without her Hanbok. I take it as a sign that she's starting to shed the ideas of her culture, starting with their dress.

Yeah, it's probably my memory. I'll check when I get home, but that won't be for something like a week...

A very quick google search says that wedding hanboks aren't necessarily white, and are usually much more ornate. If I had to guess I'd say it's what she was originally programmed to wear, before traditionalism took over.

Harem ending next, wheeee~ I find the differences in *Mute's and *Hyun-ae's ending poses interesting. *Hyun-ae is leaning in, looking right at you, and actively reaching out to her only link back to a decent life, while *Mute is distant and has almost her full back to you, like she's not sure.

Have you gotten her friendship ending yet? The graphic is super-adorable.

ETA: This post refers to Hyun-ae; *Mute just has the one ending, if you don't count the harem.

I will admit it's a character quirk of mine that I can accept a character's mass murder of innocent strangers over deeply ingrained and totally not her own fault sexism. I keep not thinking of Mute's personality as as something that got programmed into it, which.. in retrospect is also pretty horrific. I actually went back and re-read some of her text and you're right, I was blocking that stuff out. Thanks for reminding me! She does seem more tragic in retrospect.

I think it's actually a sign of really good writing that I can squick out over this. I got similarly uncomfortable reading Handmaid's Tale and Native Tongue, which deal with similar issues and are both really good, but not something I would say I 'enjoyed'.

I know you're doing the harem ending next, but is there anything interesting that happens if you don't take either lady AI with you? Or is it just considered a 'bad end'?

There is indeed an ending where you don't take either AI with you! It's different than the bad end when Hyun-ae disconnects you.

I don't personally think it's worth LPing.

Imgur is being a twat and not letting me edit all my images, but I wanted to get the Harem route done tonight, so I decided "Fuck it, a few large images won't hurt."

Now, here's the rub: on a normal playthrough, you can't show *Mute the diary entry (and I THINK you know what entry I'm talking about). It's just not possible: you can only obtain it by talking to *Hyun-ae, and *Hyun-ae is completely locked off to us now. *Mute will never find out what happened to her, and neither will we. Life's a bitch.

...well, y'know what, fuck that. We're going to fix that and make things right. How?
