So this game, "That Cheap and Sacred Thing," was recommended to me by a friend. She told me there would be feels. I accepted that challenge. If I end up dissolving into a puddle of tears, I owe her Chinese food.

    Let's do this.

Oh Ren'Py. How I love you and your easy-to-use screenshot function.

    Oh.

    Ohh.

    OHHHHHH.

TISSUES AT THE READY, EVERYBODY! WE CAN HANDLE THIS! /barricades herself inside a fort of plushies and candy

(This is hands down the best-written visual novel to come out of the Ren'py community, so yes. Prepare yourselves for a treat. And feels. Lots and lots of feels.)

I heard players break down sobbing grossly at their screen. Sounds like fun~

I hate how my first thought was "you mean those rings that you get out of those machines that people give to other people when they are cheap and try to pass it off as A SENTIMENTAL ITEM i think i can guess how this is going to go".

If this can get me to cry, I'll be a little stunned.

I'm a huge crybaby, so naturally I should read this LP!

Ha. I proposed to my spouse with a gumball machine ring. And it worked!

...but, uh, anyway. I am dubious as well of the claims of guaranteed tears, but I'm certainly curious as to how this one's going to go.

Actually, you know what, I think I'm going to skip out on this LP. I don't think I can handle sitting through that again. So. Uh. Yeah. Have fun y'all~~~~~
  10. CuteCat Already Beat BF's New Expansion

    ... You've got my interest.

Either way, SAD FEELS? I'm gonna be watching THIS one for sure! Nothing quite like seeing everyone break down in real time, hyahahaha~
... Aren't they better if the feels aren't expected though?
Surprise sorrow is the best kind.
  11. James Birdsong Beardy Magnificence

"Recomended by a friend.." is a phrase that makes me wary. "She told me.." is not comforting at all. Assure me this is not creepypasta.

    FEEEEEEEEEEEEELS
(Mmhm, sci-fi / magic realism drama, not a creepypasta, though just as a warning, there's some violence? I can't remember whether or not the CG showed it graphically, but it might be a good idea to spoiler it when it comes up. Just a heads up!)
  17. Suzurin Elitist Negative Nancy

Dammit guys, I'm broke, I can't afford to lose this bet.

Also, oh, should I put up a warning at the beginning then about some violence? But yeah, I'll spoiler it if it's graphic or disturbing.

EDIT: Also I am horribly out of the loop and every time you guys say "creepypasta" all I can think of is this:

    FEEEEEEELS FEELS FEELS
(Truth be told, I didn't have any deep emotional reactions to this game, though it was well-written and evocative~ Personal taste, I guess~ Not the biggest fan of speculative fiction, I have a fixation on background characters, also have a deep irrational envy, etc. Good game, though, two thumbs up and three feels in the river.)

So y'know when people copy-paste those things like "OMG POST THIS COMMENT 10 TIMES AND YOU WILL MEET YOUR TRRRRRUUUUUU LUVVVVV!"? That's copy-pasta.

When it's "OMG youu guys I'm so scared I read this comment about this girl who had her head cut off by a serial killer and now if I don't repost this comment she'll come and take my head off OMG OMG OMG"? That's creepypasta. Sometimes they take a long, narrative form, and people make games out of them. Because this is the Internet, why the hell not?

    *follows thread for the feels*
  25. Ozzo Hatoful Pigeon

Awesome, I'm as blind as you are. And the art looks surprisingly decent. Awww yiss.

Don't mind me, I just use this goblet to collect tears.

Wait what, I literally JUST clicked the new game button, what's happening

What is going on did I click on the wrong thing am I going to die now

    Stop doing things without explaining!

Apparently we just finished watching a B-movie chick flick. Well thanks for explaining all that, I appreciate it–

Wait who's Cheryl. Goddammit. I have a feeling I should get used to this.

So since you won't tell me who Cheryl is, I have no choice but to think of her/him (though that would be a strange name for a guy, I suppose)/it as the Narwhal Ruler of the Jelly Kingdom, and I its faithful apprentice. ... That, or Cheryl, the Collector of the Heart Keys. Two can play at this game, game.

... Shouldn't Internet be capitalized? Also, I was told there were androids in this, so I was expecting futuristic settings, and so far I am presented with surfing Netflix for movies. WELP.

And it only gets better worse better. The MC's inner movie critic comes out and she basically just tears this movie apart. I dunno if this movie killed her father or something, but she pretty much just hates it, and I'm about to point out that at least she didn't pay anything to watch it, when–

–that happens. Suddenly I'm entirely on her side. I really love Taming of the Shrew, when it's done right. In my mind, that happens to be the feminist interpretation. It just really gets my goat otherwise.

So you go girl, tear it apart!

Ummm... Okay? I thought we were still bashing–

    Wait what–

I'm beginning to sense a theme–

Yup, there's a definite robot theme here–

    Okay.

    Just–

    Okay.
  27. Suzurin Elitist Negative Nancy

    Oh.

    Ohhhhhhhhhhhh.

Thank you, that explains a lot! So I probably shouldn't Google it, or–

I've found that the antidote to creepypasta is to keep reading it until you realize that, Sturgeon's Law being what it is, a lot of the less well-written stuff out there boils down to "if you perform this sequence of specific actions which are highly unlikely to occur by accident, you will opt in to having something horrible happen to you!"

It stops being creepy when you're left wondering "...okay, but why would I do that when all I get out of it is a terrifying supernatural encounter, a life lived in fear, and a horrible and inevitable demise?"

I like finding problems, myself. I keep myself to videogame- or tech-related ones, but I love finding and pointing out the funny mistakes and flaws they make.

Like overly specific or silly timeframes. "13 seconds of darkness later, the screen changed again." "The growling noise remained for 2 hours before something begun to appear." Honestly, if the screen glitches up and goes black, nobody's going to sit there and stare at it for even 10 seconds, much less half an hour~

I bet all creepypastas have silly mistakes like that. Find 'em or make yourself funny mental images out of them and you'll be juuust fine. :3

I just finished. No crying but yes, definitely feels. And man, was I wrong. JUUUUUUUUUDE. Such a sweety. Weird, I feel like crying when I think back on it...I think if the music had been different, tears probably would have come out. All in all, it was really good~! Now, I just have to get this sad feeling out of my chest.

Oh hey, I have this downloaded. Now off to go read it so this LP doesn't spoil me...
  38. OtomeGamer Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Okay, I played through this and I feel like I didn't play the same game as everyone else did even though I downloaded it from Lemmasoft forums.

First things first: I didn't cry at all (reason why I checked it out at first)...but I could see how it was meant to be emotional at times. It just didn't make me go teary-eyed for some reason, and I know I'm the super overly emotional type of person so...maybe there's an error in my programming? (lame, I know) So anyone who's afraid of playing this because they might get puffy eyes and have to go into work the next day looking like someone died, you'll probably be okay.

The story was really good for how long it was, and I especially liked the author's comments on the interpretation of the game (she clearly thought about it more than I did as a viewer), and when she mentioned that "Jude Law plays a HOT GIGOLO ANDROID in 'Artificial Intelligence', my reaction was: "why the hell did I not know about this sooner?!"

    Because it's Jude Law.

    As a hunky robot man.

All my likes for her part in showing me the light.

Edit: Oh, and if you want to play another game that will make you emotional, I've heard things about Hana Awase. It's depressing as hell, judging from the spoilers I've read, but everyone who's reviewed it seems to think it's the best game of the year ~_ -
