Let's survive as long for as we can in Devil Survivor (one)!

Magic. Magic has the best chance of survival.

I think that the general consensus wants me to become a mage.

Now the choice is whether I become a squishy mage or not.

I was gonna vote magic and agility, but Muscle Mage just sounds so cool.
    It looks like this, right?

Hm, I say magic user and vitality, with decent agility. And as Failure Hero stated, those attacks would be good to get as they can be amazingly deadly.

(Can anyone tell me how to tag other users?)
  6. Yelim Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Just start typing the name after a @ symbol.

For example Smiley is @ + Smiley .

Oh, thank you so much! They don't have that in the help section, so I had no idea how easy it was. :3

Magic + Agility, with a little Vitality thrown in for survivability.

After seeing us beat Kobold, Atsubro becomes the optimistic friend he was before. I promptly tell him to attack and kill the kitty cat.

[IMG] Gahh...I heard that if I lost, I become your sevant. Oh Well... I'm the monster Kabuso, pleased to meet you.

At least he's polite about this whole affair.

[IMG] But I'll abide by the contract. I HAVE to lend you my powers. I'm the fairy, Pixie. Don't you DARE waste me.

Unlike this fairy over here. Don't worry, I'll fuse you off at the earliest chance I get.

Mission Complete! You can see, there, that we gained those three demons into our party. Later on, we'll be able to move these demons around and customize teams.

This time, I put the point into Vitality. We are on our way to becoming a MUSCLE MAGE.
  10. Yelim Already Beat BF's New Expansion

This is a List of all the Demons that we have currently.

I may use portraits from other games to show more flattering picures.

    Kobold:
"A German fairy commonly depicted as a small creature with doglike face.
They appear in mines and switch out valuable minerals for useless one, thus acting as the namesake for cobalt."—Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Compendium (since one doesn't have a compendium)
    Kabuso:
"A demon of Ishikawa prefecture that takes the form of a kitten and is said to often bewitch people.
Because it has a wide-ended tail and lives in aquatic regions, it is thought to be a type of Kappa. It loves to fool people with illusions that cause them to wrestle with boulders and tree roots, or it may transform into a beautiful woman to seduce them. When a Kabuso tries to pull a prank, it will follow its victim while talking incessantly. Beware, should this happen to you."—Devil Survivor 2 Compendium

    Pixie:
"A small faerie found in southwest Britain. It is cheerful and likes to play pranks.
Their appearance changes from region to region, but their personality is constant. One common prank is to cause humans to travel in circles. They also help farmers, however, and are generally considered good faeries."—Devil Survivor 2 Compendium

Ahhhh starter demons. My shameful secret is that I actually get really attached to Pixie and never want to fuse her. I'll end up with like, a level 18 Pixie despite the ridiculous XP costs. My attachment is even worse in Nocturne, where she evolves into High Pixie. orz

I love Pixie. I wish all the SMT games that let you start with Pixie would allow you to power her up to High Pixie ala Nocturne.

Also, I am pleased to see you following the enlightened ways of Muscle Magic
  15. Yelim Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Sadly, I don't think Devil Survivor allows you to do that. Pixie will stay a Pixie.
Although, I certainly think that Pixie, as a starter demon, is much MUCH more useful than Kobold or Kabuso.

Indeed, I'm on my way to becoming a Muscle Mage.
Which gives off a strange image in my head, as most mages in my imagination or pretty, squishy things.

[IMG] We're all still Alive! Aaahh!! That was scary!

Well, at least we got a bunch of demons out of the deal, right?

[IMG] That doesn't make sense! That's just impossible.

I don't know, Yuzu. I feel that it'd be more impossible for Atsubro to just randomly recruit demons out of thin air, but that may just be me.

Hold on, we should check these out! Besides, I highly doubt the police will believe three, young japanese highschool students. They don't watch much anime.

[IMG] Check them out!? What more is there to see?
[IMG] Calm down, Yoohoo, I think Canae's right.

    I'm always right.

[IMG] Huh? What are you saying! What'll we do if demons come out of this thing again!

Earlier I talked about how Atsuro is always a ball of optimism and Yuzu is a nervous wreck. Well, despite my annoyance of her at various times, Yuzu probably acted like any other sane person. It's perfectly normal for someone to panic and want to get rid of a device that'd summon demons.

Of course, It'd be pretty awesome to have a device that'd summon demons.
  17. Yelim Already Beat BF's New Expansion

[IMG] But even after what happened, is it right to throw everything out immediately? We don't even know if that's the safest thing to do at this point.

Agreed. It'd be horrible if the police got murdered by the demons; More chaos would come of this.

And there's the fact that Naoya might assassinate us if we don't follow his orders. He just seems like that kind of guy.

Yeah, we were probably lucky that some low-level demons popped out. What if, for example, Lucifer was summoned?

[IMG] Ah, I get it. That's why...
[IMG] What? Did you figure something out?
[IMG] Yeah. First, this process is named the Demon Summoning Program.
[IMG] Demons? You mean from books and myths and all that stuff?
[IMG] How should I know? I still can't wrap my head around how a computer can summon them.

Let's see what Protag-kun has to say on this matter:

We're stuck between two wonderfully inane answer choices. I choose the one that doesn't make me feel like an idiot...though the other choice isn't all that much better.

  22. Yelim Already Beat BF's New Expansion

[IMG] Yeah! With blood, skulls, and Virginal sacrifices.

Yeah, but Virtual Human sacrifice just doesn't sound very satisfying to me.

[IMG] ... Anyway, the other function I found on the COMP is the harmonizer.

Once again, our protagonist shows just how eloquent he is. It makes me wish I could put some points into his non-existant INT stat.

[IMG] It's similar to the Summoning Program, and I have no idea what principles are behind it. But It seems to match some wavelength so that our attacks works on demons...Likewise, it attunes their attacks to lessen the impact we take.

So am I, Yuzu, So am I. It feels that Somehow Atsuro should be the smart magic guy instead of us.

[IMG] Summoning demons, protecting us from them...What does he want us to do!

I avoid the logical answer. I don't think Yuzu would like it if I said that.

Really creepy. Once again, I don't trust this Naoya character.

[IMG] What email, the one that predicted the death in Aoyama? Haha... after something like this, predicting the future feels pretty normal... Wait a minute, I got it!
    [IMG] That's it! Canae!

    What...What did I say?

[IMG] Take this for example, the deaths in Aoyama were blamed on Animal attacks, right?
    [IMG] Huh...? Yeah...
[IMG] What if it wasn't an animal, but a demon, like the ones that appeared earlier!

Th-That means, there are MORE demons running around?

Trust me, You're contributing much more than what Yuzu and I are doing.

  24. Yelim Already Beat BF's New Expansion

[IMG] So if we wanted to...we could have been there at that moment. In addtition, the COMPS are modified to summon demons and fight against them. So, what Conclusion can we draw from this?

I just love how the First Option just makes Protag-chan just look so lacking. In anycase, WE CAN TOTALLY PREVENT OUR DEATHS, HECK YEAH! I want emails that can help me do that!

What do you mean, huh. Isn't this pretty straightfoward?

[IMG] There have always been strange things happening, but there are a lot more lately. What if...they were all ignored by the public...and were actually caused by demons? And what if we can use these COMPS to fight those demons?

Right now? That seems like a pretty good guess.

You don't? That's probably your survival instinct speaking. Psh, don't listen to it. Who needs that thing, anyway.

  25. Yelim Already Beat BF's New Expansion

[IMG] I mean, I don't want to have to fight monsters like that again, either...But, if we get attacked by demons like the other victims...I can't give this COMP up. Without them, we're just normal people. We don't stand a chance against these demons!

Atsubro, you are voice of reason.

[IMG] And even if these COMPS were made to fight these demons... Then Why US! The police should be the ones dealing with these stuff.

Yuzu, watch anime. The police are subpar to normal highschool students. ALWAYS.

[IMG] That said, do you really think we can protect ourselves without them, Yoohoo?

[IMG] ...? What's wrong Canae, why are you staring above my head?

What are you talking about? I always have this blank expression.

Oh yeah, and there's a random number above your head too. But I'm not crazy, you know.

    Because we're special!

Uh, yeah, sure. We look serious.

[IMG] Man... Is this because of the COMP, too? We know so little about this... I feel like my head is going to blow up!

No! Don't blow up Atsubro! You've got the only decent brain around here!

[IMG] All this about the COMP, the email, and everything else...We need him to tell us everything.

I got my doubts whether he'll be there or not...but let's not needlessly worry my friends.

Fine, Fine, Let's go visit that shifty cousin of ours.
    I still don't trust him

I finally got through the screenshots that I took two days ago. Wow, that's a lot of exposition. I never realized how much dialogue this game has. I think it'll get better once we actually get into the games "days" itself.

With that said, would you guys prefer the whole experience that spans over a longer period of time? Or would you prefer for me to script more when there's lengthy dialogue like this?
  26. Yelim Already Beat BF's New Expansion

You're a real jerk, you know that?

I gave you three the COMPS because you will need the power of the demons. If you want to survive, you'll have to learn how to use them.
I don't have much time right now, head to the Aoyama cemetary. You'll meet a person who'll affect your future activities.

I don't know about you guys, but I really don't want to go to the cemetary at night. ESPECIALLY if Naoya is telling us to go there.

We also get another email from system administration.

Congratulations! You have the qualifications to become a demon tamer.
You can now summon a demon any time as a an ally and command it.
Please note that "contracting" demons only occurs during the initial boot of the program. Defeating demons summoned via program or Defeating demons via other's COMPS will not apply.
Also, a tutorial function has been added to assist you in battle. Please make use of it.
Have a safe and pleasant experience in your new life as a demon tamer.

Wow, at least the system administration is polite about all this.
I'll say this again, if only my DS could do all this...

[IMG] He's a genious when it comes to knowing what people will do next. Anyway, did you guys read the other email?

Well, it's less of Naoya being a genious, and more of Naoya being a creepy stalker and watching us while we're getting pummeled by demons.

Demon tamer just sound that much cooler.

After I say this, Atsuro and Yuzu banter a bit and come to a conclusion that we are now able to summon demons without having to fight them.

[IMG] If that's what he wanted, all along, then he could have just told us!

Yes, but that's not fun enough for Naoya.

That's not a good thing, Atsubro, why are you smiling when you say that?

We discuss the email where Naoya wants to meet this mysterious "person" for a while:

Well, I wouldn't put it past Naoya to hole us up with a monster....but...

[IMG] Well...It looks like I've got no choice. If you two are going, then I'm coming too! Let's go!

Yuzu is so awesome at this moment.

So we leave to go find this "person" at the cemetary. I swear, this is going to be a death trap, isn't it?

Atsuro basically explains that we have a pool of skills that we can share amongst the members of our party. We can later add to this pool by skill-cracking, which will be explained later. At the moment, we currently have 4 skills at our disposal.

And did Naoya send us to this place knowing this! Is he trying to KILL us?

What is that thing; it's hideous! He just came running into the cemetary from the forest.

And then a orange-hoodied man came running in from the side path. Notice his clock...? It says zero...I wonder what that could mean...

He just...He just punched a man! What?

And then the man's clock folded up and faded away...what could that clock be? It was obviously connected to his death!

Funny you should ask what a Wendigo is. It's a shapeshifting creature in I want to say Inuit Algonquin (thanks videet) mythology that eats people and pretty much gains a life for each person it eats. There is also Wendigo psychosis, a mental disease specific to parts of Canada that gives a craving for human flesh. The most famous occurrence of that being when a man named Swift Runner brutally murdered and ate his wife and five children.
