Modifying can't ruin an object. It's not that it can't fail, it's just that it's possible to modify something and then make absolutely no progress on it. Like barricading. The item being modified won't be ruined or anything though.

Ahh, okay. Make sense.

(Just wondering, would modifying stuff for barricading help offset our poor skills enough to make barricading useful, or are we better off just sticking to traps?)

Short answer: no.

Long answer: Weeeeell, it's definitely a VIABLE tactic, but you could just try looking for tools which naturally have 5 stars at barricading. The warehouse and factory might be a good place to start. The more important question is not how to make barricading useful, but why would you want to barricade in the first place. Do you plan to stay here at the starting house for quite a while? If so, then modifying tools to be good at barricading might be useful. If you're planning to move on soon, why don't you just wait and see if there are tools that are good at barricading wherever you plan on staying? :D

Snark apparently heeded my warning from the previous update and snatched the handgun away from Mary, who then threw a fit and started modifying... a flashlight? For... close combat purposes? Err... whatever floats your boat, dear.



You know, I think that one reason this modifying is taking so long is because I keep saving and reloading the game in between turns, and that naturally cancels actions that are on-going? People might have to give me a chain of actions for five turns or something like that so I can play through until the modification is complete before quitting the game.

In any case, that's what you might have to do anyway. You see, I have a bit of bad news for you guys. The zombie apocalypse just broke out and my house is currently completed surrounded. My little sister had her face eaten by zombies, and mom and dad died trying to save her. Being not stupid, I threw my laptop at them to distract the undead before barricading myself in my room. Managed to tear out the hard drive beforehand though, so no worries, the game is still intact! Typing from my dying phone right now. The zombies are scratching at my door. Depending on whether or not I can get the bathroom window to open so I can escape, an update may or may not be waiting for you later today.

I'm suggesting that we move to that warehouse I scouted. With only five rooms and two zombies spotted inside we can be fairly sure that the place can be taken easily. Plus we'll undoubtedly get a head start of barricade tools.

Let's do that after me and Tionivo/Oscar get back. In the meantime keep searching/modifying?

That would have been useful for me! I sent one of my characters to assault a place with a gun and a flashlight, and she beat them with the flashlight and ignored the gun.

Just got back from a crazy day, about to pass out, can't update tonight but get in those actions people so I can work on an update after I fight off all these zombies.

Which is a fine reminder I should get my act together and start planning a victim. Maybe a profession, too. When I am done dealing with smoked 'am that tastes of despair.

Trying to confirm actions:

CSL/Andrew wants to breach the warehouse.
Snark wants to finish modifying (will take an unknown number of turns) and then breach the factory.
Ozzo/Mary wants to finish modifying (will take an unknown number of turns).
Vide/Knockout wants to continue searching until the others get back, but... everybody's already back at the starting point as denoted on the map, so would you like to do something else instead?
Anabanana/Oscar is going to breach the warehouse together with Andrew.

If people want to stick to modifying, I'd like everybody to give me actions for at least a few more turns so I can play through till the modification is complete instead of interrupting it by saving and loading the game.

(Would it be easier if we figured out a general course of action and give you autonomy on how exactly to work towards that goal?)

Right now, general goal is to breach the warehouse. Y'all can work out what to do once we're there. We'll worry about modification AFTER we get to a place where there are presumably more tools and stuff to do it with, all right?

Well, I think that once we've finished searching the house, we should breach the warehouse for supplies before eventually making our way towards the factory.

Warehouse is fully searched and modifications are complete! We now have a double-barrelled handgun and a spiked baseball bat.

By toys, do you mean the building kind of toys like Lego (in which case that's a vote for the factory) or the shoot-y stab-y kind of toys (in which case that's a vote for the store)?
