Oh man, I want to side with Chael and make his heart meter go up, but I also kinda want to see what kind of game we suggest and if the guys give us weird looks for saying such a thing.

Is it just me or does Chael look a little smug here?







If it's a main commercial center, why not a city instead of a village? Or even Duggary Town. I'm just going to pretend it started out as a village, and grew so slowly over time that no one had thought to change the village/town/city's name until it was already known throughout the land as Duggary Village.

The difference between running around town and setting up camp is that you have the option of interacting with the guys when you're at camp. The nice thing is that you still get stat boosts if you opt to discuss strategy or practice fighting.

But before any of that, let's go ask Chael to tell us a little more about Nalan.









I happen to know about half a dozen creation stories. Took a class on comparative mythology a while back. What about you, Zuleika?

I didn't screenshot the story, since it was basically the above shot for four or five screens. Figured I'd save some space and just write it out.

Chael: She bestowed upon her world the name "Nalan" and created a group of wise, mysterious creatures to inhabit it. Her first gift to them was the power of light, which is the source of all life. Her second gift to them was the power to speak without words, for words can be misinterpreted; thoughts cannot. Her third gift to them was the power to change their surroundings, which allowed them to develop advanced technology. This power is what humans call "magic." Finally, she gave them a lush forest to live in, where they would be free from the influence of the outside world. That is how the nation of Nalan was born.

This is how Chael greets you when you talk to him at the lower heart levels. How sweet.









To be clear, the woman he's talking about would be Menorrhi, queen of Nalan.







No need to get angry now.

The choices here are "Not at all!" or "Maybe a little..." It's not all that hard to figure out what he wants to hear.

Well, you just saw him last week. Remember? At the tournament in Jarconia... No? Doesn't sound familiar? Oh well...

One last update for the night. I had Zuleika give Chael a present that she bought in Jarconia (she picked up something cheap for Kirile, too, but we're not on his route, so who cares). Bumped us up from a blue to a green heart.

His green heart look like a health stamp of approval. Excellent.

Inexplicably, Kirile's heart gone from black to blue (and this was before Zuleika gave him any gift). Who knows why, but at least he's a little friendlier than Chael is being at this point.

After some sparring practice, Kirile has a question for Zuleika.







Now, the correct response is technically the bottom choice. Zuleika explains about Nefferon taking over and Kirile says she would've made an excellent queen. But the first choice leads to a much more interesting conversation.

Really, Zuleika? You're going with the cliche? I'll forgive you since I forgot to crop this shot.









Meanwhile Chael, who was only a few feet away, slowly shook his head.
