After that there's the last dancing minigame, which I didn't screenshot because I'm pretty sure the only difference is the background and Zuleika's opening line. She and Chael manage not to miss a single step, but I've already explained how that's not really all that hard.





Nefferon! At last! Prepare to d---



Damn! Why do you have a green heart? Maybe that dance at the last competition wasn't such a good idea.



That's right, Zuleika! Don't put up with him patronizing you!

... Or you could just let him patronize you. I guess that works too. Except it really doesn't.





Zuleika, you did not come here to dance and drink and toast. You came here to---





---to really make a toast, I suppose. /sigh



Oh, Zuleika... I'm sorry, but your toasts are about as good as your uplifting speeches.



But I guess Nefferon liked it since his smile looks slightly less menacing.



You know this all seems kinda counter productive.



Wait, what? Who the hell slipped poison in his cup? One of the servants? What if someone else got that glass by mistake? Then again, he's the Emperor, so I'll bet he has his own personal goblet.



Oh... it was lethal? Wow. For some reason, I wasn't expecting that (I thought they'd just imprison him). Damn. That seems somewhat underhanded, but I guess Nefferon doesn't deserve any better. You know what Detective Skye would say about this, though. Awfully girly way to kill someone.

For your funeral.



Don't hold your breath.



Zuleika actually looks a little sad here. I think she might feel slightly guilty about what she's done, but it was this or let the people be ruled by a tyrant.

Well that was sudden.

I'm kind of terrified that it won't work.

Poison does seem pretty underhanded, and I would have liked an explanation of when that got slipped in there. Neffy doesn't seem like the sort of guy who'd let that happen.

I foresee Disney style comedy stylings when they come out and realize they forgot to put the poison there.

It almost seemed too easy.



Except for that one time when I was all, "LET'S BRING KIRILE TO THE BALL :D"

And you were all, "No D< If we die it's up to him."



But... he... /SIGH







I enjoy Chael's occasional quips.

Well, actually, Chael, I have this whole Harem Ending planned out and---

And that's how the lie she told to Kirile became a truth.

Epilogue time! The CG looks similar to the one in the cave, but if you compare them you'll notice the differences.

Harem Ending: achieved. Or about as close as we're gonna get to it.

Best end, yay! I tried playing again and I think the path where you go with Chael is more interesting than the path where you stay, anyway.

Also, I'm betting Chael put the poison in the drink since he was totally absent from the toast and such the minute Neffy approached them. He probably crept away to the kitchen and did some sneaky stuff there. That's just what I think, though.

Oh my gosh Neffy is such a creep for saying that stuff before fighting him. I'm not sure if I even want to see his ending. So anyway, will you be doing another route soon? I would love to see you do more!

Oh, wow, I can't believe I didn't think of that! I thought it was a little odd that he was absent for that entire scene, but it never occurred to me that he would be the one slipping the poison. It makes sense, too, since on Nefferon's route you end up using (presumably) the same poison, but you learn that it's made of "the darkest Nalani magic."

Yeah, I think it's the "canon" route, whoever you end up going for. But I also think Chael might have been the creator's favorite guy. I don't know why, and I could be completely wrong about that, but he seems like he's the "main" love interest. Doesn't bug me cause I like his route and the idea of Zuleika falling in love with the guy who came-to-kill-but-ended-up-rescuing her (since the idea of falling in love with a guy you met in town isn't quite as... romantic?). That doesn't mean I don't like Kirile's route, of course (I love him for wrestling dragons).

But I decided to go through and aim for a few ends I hadn't gotten before. They all took place in Story B (where you stay at the castle), and one of them was Nefferon's ending. Gotta admit, I really liked it. I mean, it was messed up, sure, but it's probably one of the only messed up scenes in a game that is otherwise pretty light.

I actually wasn't going to, but I decided to poke around the walkthrough a bit and I found some interesting info. For example, I knew Chael had a "secret ending" (as do all the guys) but I didn't realize that you can get a different epilogue with him. They still get married, but there's a big difference in what happens otherwise. They have a little more dialogue at the ball, too.

To get it, you have to play as a defender of the people. This works out well since you can't play as a well-rounded ruler the first time around (which basically means no dance competitions and no tournaments, but you can give presents). That really limits the amount of cash you make, but if you buy the right items and raise the right stats, it doesn't matter. What does matter is making sure you have Chael at a red heart (not too terribly difficult, just necessary for him to propose) and a Strength of at least 200, since the only way to see the other epilogue is to choose fighting Nefferon head on (but you won't actually have to fight him; you'll just get a scene about it).

I won't post this, since I think it's a great reason to download the game and experience it yourself, unless perhaps you're waiting on the remake. Even then, it might take a while, so why not play this in the meantime? I wouldn't mind posting his "secret" ending if anyone's interested, though. Here's what the creator had to say about them in the walkthrough: "These endings aren't particularly story relevant; they're just meant to be entertaining. :)"

No problem! I just have to go out and run a few errands first, so it won't be up for a little while. In the meantime, here's a bit from Kirile's secret end that I found pretty funny. You have to remember that Chael broke through one of Zuleika's windows when he came to assassinate her (as well as another one when they escaped).

Hahahahaa! I love Kirile! XD

Okay, so you get these endings by giving the eligible bachelors (in this case Duren and Nefferon) all the wrong answers and focusing all of your energies on raising your target's primary stat. Not sure if I said this before, but this ending is only available if you reject Chael when he comes to kill Zuleika.

And remember how Duren and Nefferon were available to dance with at the competitions before? Well, it doesn't work the other way! If you stay at the castle, you cannot dance with Chael in any of the dance competitions. It makes sense in Kirile's case, since you never really meet him if you don't leave the castle. But Chael? Come on! He's the first guy you meet!

Of course, this meant that I had to avoid the ball, since even when you're giving them the wrong answers and raising irrelevant stats, it's still all too easy to get an invitation from Duren or Nefferon (meaning you can't go with either Chael or Kirile). Luckily, the tournaments payed out enough Gold for me to boost Zuleika's intelligence high enough for Chael to notice.

I'll spare you the details of what happens while Zuleika's staying in the castle, suffice to say in the end Nefferon hosts a ball. Not long before the ball, as Zuleika's heading home from town, someone suddenly stops her.

Zuleika gets a different wardrobe when she decides to stay in the castle. I bought a Magical Mardrobe Something at the shop to change the color of Zuleika's cape (it matches her eyes :D) and got the Eleven Tiara she received from Chael the last time around (even though her castle clothes come with a gold tiara).

"You may not know of me, for I hail from the mysterious land of Nalan, but I have heard many stories of you... and I must confess that I have fallen in love with you from afar. If you are as kind and gracious as the stories tell, then please allow me the honor of escorting you to your royal ball. I'll meet you in your room on the night of the ball. Please wait for me."



Hm, yeah, I'm not so sure about this "fallen in love from afar" bit. Kinda sounds like he's been watching you. Then again, it also seems like he hasn't really met you, since he mentions stories rather than citing anything specific. I dunno, it's kinda hard to call. What do you think, Zuleika?



Good to see you thought this thing through thoroughly. Especially when you consider that assassination attempt not too long ago!

And Prince Chael is inexplicably at a red heart, having only met her once, when he failed to kill her. Sounds like he got to keep his title, too, since he did make an attempt to assassinate her.

Yeah... Nefferon's making her pay for the damages. He says he'll cover it if you suck up to him, but to hell with that.

It doesn't really make any difference anyway unless you're on his route. And we aren't.





What? Don't tell me breaking and entering is actually a regular occurrence in Nalan? You know what, I don't want to know.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy!!



But seriously, awww~ He gave her a love letter!

Whoops, sorry. I laid down for "just a second" and ended up passing out. So, Chael and Zuleika are off to the ball, right?

Oh, hey Duren. Sorry, thought you were someone else. No hard feelings about Zuleika going out with your former mentor, right?







Uh... well, then, Duren, I'm not quite sure what you want to hear. Besides, why else would Chael be there?





Chael, that kind of sounds like a veiled threat. I know you were trained as an assassin, but come on. Or maybe I'm the only one who thinks that sounds even vaguely threatening.

"Nalani scum"? That's racist! And hypocritical! You have a treaty with with Menorrhi, despite the fact the citizens are wary of Nalan and it's people.







Considering the fact that the castle guard is closing in and you guys don't even have weapons, let alone any sort of plan, I guess... Yeah, that might be a good idea.

Uh... Okay? I'm guessing this is supposed to be like, "March to the beat of your own drum." Kirile's line makes a lot more sense here (but he and Zuleika weren't talking about music, so maybe that's why).

Man, that is so sappy and cliche and Chael, you are adorable, so I forgive you.

Since she and Chael go their separate ways, I like to think she traveled to Jarconia, met Kirile all over again, gave him a similar if not the same uplifting speech, then they begin to travel together and fall in love and live happily ever after wrestling dragons forever.

Well, that... de-escalated quickly.

I'm OK with that. Any story that ends with wrestling dragons is good in my book.

Chael is darling, but Kirile flails with windows better than he ever will.
