Well I assume it's because he has a love interest in the game already... but then again, you can sorta romance Ken so I don't think that should have stopped you :V

The fact that you have that option is creepy. I'd prefer if that relationship was more along the lines of siblings instead. Maybe ATLUS gave Ken a mom-complex or something and so we have that route? STILL NO!!!!!!

Well hell, my post about Liara is a better fit here than over in the unintended consequences of dating sims thread. Not least of which being that I don't know a damn thing about dating sims.

But in games that I have played that include a relationship element, if I could be said to have a type, one might say that I like characters that need rescuing or protection. It's probably no accident that the first time you meet Liara that, competent and intelligent as she is, she is trapped and hunted by Saren's forces and needs your help. I realize that may sound like a total Y chromosome troglodyte thing to say, but there aren't a lot of outlets for the occasional chivalric twinge these days. Video games are good for more than murder simulation after all.

I loved Emi too, actually. I didn't expect to like her after the Act 1 Demo, but then I played Rin route, saw how great Emi was, and went back and did her route. I ended up liking both their routes the best.

Oddly, I don't like female tsunderes that much, mostly because of the whole "constantly smacking around the protagonist" thing. But my real appeal points as far as heroines go are tomboys, tough girls with guns, and mature and sexy/school nurse types. I have this thing for assertive and kickass ladies.

I loved Saber from FSN, even though Fate route was the weakest overall the ending was great. I liked how she was in the other routes, too, even if Heaven's Feel didn't end well for her. I guess I secretly like the tragic but stoic and brave girls too (which is funny, because I don't care that much about tragic but stoic guys). I love Arcueid too, she's adorable without being insufferably moemoe cutesy and has a nice dark side. And Kohaku.

Speaking of Kohaku, I really like female yandere but can't get into male yandere at all. Male yandere still seems to be "doing it wrong", to me. In essence, yandere is about being willing to do anything for the other person's sake, in a twisted and misguided way. Male yandere is too selfish, it's all about them and the other person being their object, rather than them thinking of themselves as an object for the other person. It's a sort of "If you ordered me to stab myself in the throat, I would do it, as long as that made me yours" kind of thing.

Which is not to say that yandere is a behavior that should at all be condoned in reality, but in the realm of fiction I find yandere-done-right pretty fascinating.

I don't know if I have a type, exactly, but a good accent/voice gets you a long, long way.

EDIT: I do enjoy whatever trope "higher status (at least in her head) woman who starts out thinking you are annoying but eventually warms up" fits, I guess. Bastila, Morrigan, Miranda (honestly as problematic as aspects of her character/portrayal are, this is the only straight relationship option that feels genuine for me for Man Shep), Risha, Jaheira, those were all pretty appealing to me. But again, the accents. Except for Risha, but she still has a great voice.

Also Merrill is adorable, even though her type isn't usually mine. And Leliana is really not my type but she has the accent/voice thing going on in SPADES.

I mostly play dating games for the same reason that I'll sit down and read almost anything I'm given: Mild curiosity and a love for narrative. Because of that it's pretty rare for me to grow attached to LIs in otome games, or video games in general, in a particularly romantic way. If I end up attached to them in a way beyond 'character x amuses me greatly' it's because they are an interesting character and not necessarily anyone I'd actually get a crush on in real life or otherwise. There are a few general types that I'll only play the routes for because I am a completionist, the one's who are rude to MC for no reason, shotas who act like they are five years old despite there typically only being a one to two year gap in age, and guys/gals who are overly sporty and thus have dialogue that I don't understand because I can't really sports. Really though, as long as the character isn't a tsundere, stupidly hyperactive, or obsessed with something that I don't know enough about to follow what's happening in their route, I'll evaluate them on basis of their character arc. I joke that I'm a default blonde romancer, but that's because in a good number of games the blonde LI has just been a likeable character.

TL;DR: Eboby has no type because they are a nerd of the not fun variety.

All of that said, I always grow attached in a 'oh wow, this person is awesome let MC make eyes at them' way to exactly the character I don't think the creators intended.

Exhibit A: Rottytops from Shantae for the GBC.
Rottytops can be described as friendly, upbeat, strong, sly as a fox, a manipulator, and only to be trusted as far as she can be thrown. She's also a huge flirt and knows no scruples on top of being a worldly nomad. On top of being a general schemer, Rottytops is obsessed with the main character of the game, Shantae, and the idea of corrupting her. I love her to bits.

Exhibit B: Psaro the Manslayer from the Dragon Quest Series of games.
Psaro is a demon and a recurring character in the Dragon Quest games. He first appeared and the main antagonist in Dragon Quest IV. It's made pretty clear throughout IV that he's the antagonist; he thinks humans are disgusting, for most humans the feeling is mutual, and he wants to kill all of them to allow demons to rain supreme. He is evil and the game makes that abundantly clear any time it can. I love him anyways and when I found out that you could get him as a party member in the remake's bonus content I was on cloud nine for days.

Exhibit C: Wendy from Rule of Rose for the PS2
    [IMG]
My attachment to Wendy isn't the sort that roots in hoping for romantic stuff between her and MC in any way, shape, or form, but theirs is one of the relationships in the game that I desperately wanted to see patched up despite the fact that Wendy is an evil little girl. Wendy is both the main antagonist of the game and used to be best friends with Jennifer, the protagonist. She's reasonably nice to Jennifer in the beginning, but has a cruel and secretive side like any sickly little girl would. She's quite infatuated with Jennifer and that infatuation spirals into a possessive obsession with her that leads to some very bad things. I could flail around excitedly concerning Rule of Rose and Wendy all day, but I won't.

I also like yanderes pretty universally, but that's because they ooze plot and character arc potential in addition to me just generally liking terrible things.

I'll go back to just quietly watching this thread now.

Ok, on a more serious note I don't really have a type either. I do love older men and young men, men with glasses and without, stoics, manly, intellectual or not so.. clever.
But really thinking hard trying to remember if any of otoge-bishies made my kokoro doki-doki I thought of only two guys. Marius from LRR and Hikami from TMGS2.
    [IMG][IMG]
They aren't even a bit similar, right? But still, that's how it is.
Hikami is just adorkable and really funny guy to mess with and... his blush is priceless. I can go on and on about how adorable and actually kind of cool Hikami is.. but you know... can't find right words. He seems serious and boring guy at first, but once you get to know him, he is actually pretty playful and loves having fun and messing around just like everyone else.

And as for Marius, that's the guy I'm most likely to date IRL. I love his sarcastic but friendly attitude, shameless flirting combined with being best bro ever. He is sweet, he is kind, and he is so well written that feels very real to me.

And now counting my long-time non-otoge crushes:
(under spoilers because long post is long)

Oh God. Somebody mentioned Valentine. Nebty, I love you for loving him. This guy is all kinds of awesome.

From the one-shot manga called Iron Venus. Funny little shoujo thing.

First character I thought of (and fuck Archie, she is clearly the best). I had the hugest girl-crush on Betty when I was a kid.

YES. This so much. I would date the hell out of my Femshep, for example.

That he is. Interestingly enough, I read the Mirrormask book (written by Neil Gaiman) before I actually saw the movie, and I loved Valentine even then. The book didn't have the little stinger at the end like the movie does, so I thought it was a bittersweet ending. But then I watched the movie and all my feels. :D

This is context-dependent for me. I mean, in something like a Takahashi manga, cartoon violence abounds, so Akane kicking Ranma over the horizon or Lum electroshocking Ataru into next week doesn't really rate for me as an actual act of violence, somehow, it's just the way the author (who I'm pretty sure is fucking nuts in any case) represents "I am annoyed at you". In a less silly context - trying to think of a game example, but my experience is entirely with western RPGs for the most part and they're lacking that particular aspect of tsundere-ness, for the most part - it does become more troubling obviously.

Ha! I remember that. I chose a Treecko for my partner at the beginning of the game and...wow, that made things a whole lot more interesting.

Speaking of Mystery Dungeon, I loved the Gengar from the first one (and in my head he totally joins the protag's rescue team). For one thing, Gengar is my absolute most favourite pokemon for ever and ever, and for another, I really liked his character arc.

    Make mine a manwhore, please.

Zevran from DA:O is my all time favorite, and Doc is my favorite of the SWTOR ones (for anti-Sjofn kryptonite, look to Corso. I fucking loathe that romance.). Something about being so awesome you make a man determined not to fall in love get all shmoopy about you is really appealing to me in a fictional sense.

If no manwhores are available, just give me the one with a sense of humor (and hopefully no serial killer undertones, Atton.). But the guy has to have lips. Sorry Garrus. :(

Although I was surprised how much I liked the Anders romance in DA2. Completely, completely unhealthy in every imaginable way, heartbreaking, and depressing. But I loved it. Isabela is my favorite for my dude Hawkes (I tend to want at least one penis involved in my romances, if that penis is mine, so be it), because Isabela is fucking rad, and fills that "noooo I don't want to ~love~" thing I like.

Because the villains get all the best lines. Also the sexiest voices. I had an enormous crush on Megatron's voice when I was a kid.

Masaki Motoharu from Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 2nd Season! He's your coworker, three years older than you, a really cool guy, mature, likes joking around with you, so, so cool~ ... If you've ever read Joie de Combat's TMGS2 LP, you probably know the extent of my obsession with him, and if you haven't, then you don't want to know~ I just. Love him. All of him. His very being. A lot. A lot.

The Wizard from Harvest Moon: Animal Parade! He is my husband and we have two beautiful happy children and when he has his back turned I like to take out my camera and snap photos of his ass. ... And by that I mean I'm very attracted by his personality! He's so sweet, even if he doesn't talk much~
    [IMG]
Duran from Avalon Code~ ... Another person I should probably avoid going into much detail in lest I start babbling like a moron. He doesn't really make the best first impression in the game or the best second impression, but he grew on me a lot while I was doing his sidequests. He grew on me so much that I would defy the laws of reality for him. Yes.

As my name implies I love megane characters. A lot. Like, obsessed with them. I like all the traits associated with them, whether it be stoic and intelligent, or shy, and awkward, I just love them. Especially when they adjust them.

My favorite types of megane are a mix of both..the ones who try to put up a cool front but are actually extremely dorky and awkward.

Best example I can think of is Hubert Oswell from Tales of Graces

Other favorites: Madarame Haranobu (Genshiken), Cheren (Pokemon), Satoshi Hiwatari (D.N.Angel), Conway (Pokemon), Bismark (Rune Factory: ToD) Otacon (Metal Gear Solid), Mao (Disgaea 3), William T. Spears (Black Butler) Ishida Uryuu (Bleach)..

...And of course, Morimura Sakuya <3

Chances are if the character has glasses they will be my favorite in any series. And I don't find them attractive unless they have glasses.
