So, Umineko's about this pervert Battler, who goes to this conference on his family's island, which basically is an opportunity for his parents and aunts/uncles to gripe and bitch over the inheritance, since they're all under financial pressure. There's also this painting of this blond chick who was apparently his grandfather's mistress and a witch who gave him gold, and also an epitaph involving gouging and sweetfish. ...but then people start mysteriously being killed, and things get really wacky. That's really all I can say without spoiling EP1. The games get more elaborate and twisted. Needless to say, this series became somewhat popular and memetic. Actually, 07th Expansion's intro is probably the best way to describe this without spoilers: (I totally copy-pasted this, fyi) If you would like to start getting into this series, start here: http://witch-hunt.com/stage.html Witch-Hunt was a group of dedicated Umineko fans who, with acknowledgement even from Ryukishi07 himself, released a translation for all eight episodes, each of which are substantial in size on their own. Ignoring the "Meanwhile, at Witch-Hunt" meme, the sheer amount of effort this fan translation group put in to translating is nothing but laudable. EP1 in its entirety is available for free as a demo, and if you liked it, then you ought to buy the download versions, also available on that website. Please spoiler-tag anything from the Episode it came from, thanks!
Maybe label spoilers with which episode they come from? That'll have the added benefit of letting people know which part of the story we're talking about.
Hello, when did this become a thing? I'm going to agree with Ana here. At least in a forum I used to frequent, they would label the spoilers with the episode numbers.
BEST UMINEKO VID You know, as bad as that anime was, it gave us OH DESIRE. I guess it was good for something after all <3
Woo, I love Umineko. Even though I still have yet to finish it. I left off after episode five, but since it's been a while, I've been reading the manga of all the previous stuff as a refresher. (And after I finish the remaining VNs, I'll probably go back and read the manga of that too.) Since we're posting funny stuff: Yanno, I didn't think the anime was that bad. But I also watched it before I read the VNs, so maybe it's some kind of subconscious bias.
I'll have to say it was the bias then, Zana. I tried but I couldn't even finish watching the Umineko anime from just how terribly paced it was. For some reason I just couldn't come to like it. I blame DEEN. I have always found this video to be amusing.
I love Kannon. *w* Squeezing four episodes of the VN into twenty-six (was it?) episodes of the anime probably wasn't the best idea, I agree. But that also shows just how long the VNs are. But I liked hearing all the characters and seeing them animated. When I started the actual game itself afterwards, I was a little thrown off. I don't mean to be dissing, but the in-game art's kinda funky. But yeah, I watched the anime first because I didn't realize at the time that it was based off a VN. (Same with Higurashi.) Then I was super confused when it ended, because I was like, "What, that's it?!" Fortunately, I remembered how to use a search engine and figured it out.
Despite the... deficiencies in Ryukishi07's art, you can't deny that it has soul. For a balance between good story and good art though, I'd recommend the manga every time. It adapts the VN more-or-less faithfully, and the art can be gorgeous depending on who's drawing it (I really wish they had Natsumi Kei draw all the episodes; none of the other artists come as close to conveying the feel of the VN, for me).
A little comparison I'd like to do between two works. This won't make sense unless you've read/watched both works till the very end. I just got to thinking about all this crap after reading akatokuro's and yumetabito's rereadings of Umineko here. Go give it a read sometime, they have really great, fun insights. Needless to say, don't read it until after you're done with the very end of Umineko.
After I got used to Ryu's art, watching the anime felt so wrong. It's kind of funny. I missed the art from the novels so much that I couldn't stand the anime's art. Anybody here know anything about Rose Guns Days?
I know absolutely nothing about Rose Gun Days apart from the fact that it's a western and Ryukishi07 finally got the budget to hire a real artist for it. And the art from the novels really grows on you, doesn't it? Like fungus.
Witch Hunt has been translating episode one of Rose Guns Days and they're already in the editing process, so I don't think it will be that long until the final patch is released. I have no idea if I'll end up liking it but until the next "When They Cry" series is out, I will take what I can get. Yes, it really is like a fungus. I miss the terrible art style already.
Also, some of the BGM remixes were pretty good, IMO. And my favorite: I wish I could find a file with the version of worldenddominator or goldenslaughterer that they used in the Anime, but apparently that wasn't in the soundtrack.
Umineko has some of the best music. Anime, game, I love pretty much all of it. I can't even post a favorite song, but I could probably compile a playlist.
I came into the Umineko fandom quite recently, so I'm still struggling with parts of the narrative that y'all might have already resolved for yourselves. So forgive me if I keep repeating myself, haha. For those who've finished the entire series: Oh, and...
DOING IT All right, here's what I have so far: in link form, since I can't figure out how to freaking embed it. Spoiler warning: There's not really any spoilers in the vids themselves, I think, aside from seeing characters that you might haven't seen yet. Music comes both the anime and games, up to episode five (pretty sure). However most of them do have spoilers in the comment section, so you probably shouldn't scroll down. assuming I'm not the only one who hasn't finished the series yet And here's a cute song that isn't from Umineko, but features it:
I love this game, although I was so obsessed by it when first I finished it some years ago, writing everywhere my opinions, that now really I don't have the strenght to make a lenghty interpretation XD Anyway as many of you said the music in this game is awesome (hope and far are my favourites), but I'd also mention the motion pictures, vol. 7 and 8 are awesome in my opinion: (spoiler for EP 7 of the game) The music and the pictures... sigh it makes me emotional everytime I watch it ç___ç
I just finished episode 1 and still at the beginning of episode 2, going at a super slow rate. Just commenting on stuff. I edited the post by the way.
Okay, I have— well, it's not a question as such, but it's something that's always bugged me. :T First off, I apologise ahead of time if this makes no sense (I hope it makes some, though >.<), as I'm writing this at ridiculous a.m. orz Please, someone tell me if they don't understand what I'm trying to say. I'll admit it's something I've had trouble trying to explain in person to my brother - he didn't get what I was saying, 'cause he was all, "It was the pieces, though... :\" Anyway, having written that out, I think I should probably go to bed now. ^^; Now, for those who don't want to read the spoilers above, have some awesome BGM (from Ep 7)~ <3
It's been a while since I read Episode 7, so my memories are pretty fuzzy, but I think I interpreted that as:
Some interesting things Ryukishi have been saying on Twitter. "Umineko is a work that uses so much strength you can really only write it once in a lifetime." Holy shit. No kidding. Understatement of the century. Yeah, I can't imagine seeing anything on the scale of Umineko from Ryukishi07 again, to be honest. Has anyone here played Rose Gun Days yet?
