Hey y'all, question for ya? I'm planning to do more video interviews for my blog, since the first one I did a couple of weeks ago was a BLAST. However, I can't always take my work laptop home as I did for the last interview, so I actually need my own webcam on my PC. I'm looking for one maybe around $50 or so that gets good, smooth video in both Skype and Google Hangout.

So far I'm looking at the Logitech 720p Webcam C905, which looks pretty nice, but I'd love to hear any suggestions or alternatives. :)

    Thanks folks! :)

I'm pretty sure Fortune 500 companies are using $20 Logitech webcams.

I actually had one on my last computer, and the video was super choppy, so I'm looking to invest in something a bit better this time.

Ahh. Well I have the cheaper version of that Logitech and there is some input lag, but the video itself is a smooth 24 fps with a decent connection. I would think the connection is more important for streaming 720p.

I have cable internet that's pretty stable, so I hope that wouldn't be an issue. The camera Macbook Pro I used last time worked splendidly, so I'd love something like that for my PC.

    I bought this one: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/lifecam-cinema/H5D-00001
I bought it because I got it for pretty cheap from the Microsoft employee store, but also because of the following:
    1) it was small - some of the logitech web cams are bigger because they do widescreen. I didn't really need that.
    2) Didn't require a cap to protect the lense
    3) It does 720P, which is a good compromise in quality. Apparently in the reviews I read the 1080p cameras require alot of horsepower and bandwidth. You can reduce the quality, but the camera is also bigger and bulkier, so I didn't see any point in buying what I wasn't going to use. I wasn't doing home recording - just video chatting.
    4) Solid drivers - the uplevel camera to this one had some troubling reviews, as did a few of the other logitech ones. This camera seemed rocked solid.

Actual usage has been really good. I installed the drivers off the disc and I was running. The video quality is good, and the microphone quality is pretty clear. I like the mount vs camera size - it has been pretty stable in my usage.

Yeah, that's the one I'm most likely gonna get. :) The video examples I saw of it were just splendid.
