LOTRO rides to Rohan

Yea, that's a good idea. I never did care for the minstrel class anyway.

But I'm curious -- does shared class work across servers? The LoTRO page on shared stash says per account, so I assume it would be accessible by any of my toons regardless of server.
  2. nixon66 Despondent Fancybear

Holy crap. I logged on to Landroval for probably the first time in two years last night and found my hunter I'd abandoned there was actually level 30. When did I do that? And I gave him the scholar crafting? Why? Oh that's right, my first guy and I had zero clue what I was doing. (not that I did any better with my main on Nimrodel - an RK with Weaponsmithing as my main crafting skill. Very useless for him, but good for my alts!)
  3. Mandella Worked The System

No. Shared storage only works per server.

If you ever get the chance, give the class another try. Especially if your experience with it is from the first year. It's been overhauled quite a bit and has become my main toon to play. Great ranged dps once you trait Call to War and warrior-skald class traits.

Edit: Oh, forgot to mention, the whole stacking of tiered ballads to hit anthems (or higher tiered ballads) has been gone for over a year. Very nice change to how playing the class feels.

Although you can only share items on a given server, the existence of the shared stash works across all servers. So if (say) you have already bought 5 shared stash upgrades while on Nimrodel, and thus have 50 slots in your shared stash, when you create your first character on Landroval, that character will have a (completely empty) shared stash with 50 slots in it.
  6. Mandella Worked The System

Oh, right.l I was reading in a hurry and thought that he was talking about actually moving items across servers.
  7. tylertoo Oh, Come On

    Thanks for clarifying.

You were correct, that is what I meant. But now I get it. Thanks for your answer as wel!

Well, Turbine's update yesterday ended the Durchest farming for tarnished symbols. Fortunately I did it 3x Tue night and got one and a Riddermark crystal that adds a major legacy to LIs. My mini is sloooowly working thru the Hytbold rebuild grind, I now have 4 warrior-skald armor pieces and her Will is 2290 unbuffed.
  9. peterb Armchair Designer

I never understood grinding that stuff. My technique has always been "Wait a year, and then the shitty base armor from the expansion pack will be better than the stuff you got from grinding at the high end last year."

But, I also don't get raiding generally. I play pretty much only for plot.

You guys are making me at least update this; no idea if I'll actually fire it up, but I'm definitely considering it. Landroval, is it? One (most likely) elven hunter, incoming to Landroval.

My main's a Captain on ... somewhere. Wherever the original QT3 guild was. I'm thinking it was NOT Landroval, but I don't remember. Either way, $25 is pretty ridiculous for a database move that (I know because I've seen it in action) takes approximately 2 minutes.

Yep, that is it. Just logged in ... oh wow, Last Logged In: 1 year ago.

Welp. :P I'm going to see how far I've gotten on my hunter, then start a new one on Landroval, then. Just as well; I don't remember a single thing that I was doing back then.

If anyone wants an invite to the Company of the Broken Forge, just let me know. There is also a guild group in the Social Groups area.

I have made an Elf Hunter from Mirkwood. In case this is a flash in the pan for me (as it often is) I will not clutter up the Fellowship roster. :P :D I'll check back in a week and see if it took.

I'd love to get back to LOTRO and hang out, but I'd rather not transfer servers or start over yet again, alas (all of mine are on Imladris). Ah well, I'm being kept busy managing bees in Minecraft anyway. So many bees...

I may eventually come back because I enjoyed the zany adventures Halibut and I had with our warden/hunter combo but my time is a bit more compressed lately and with Mr. Pants and I getting our Jedi on I don't have time for a second MMO. Once we've exhausted that one I will probably head back to Middle-earth.

I'll still make a token (Tolkien?) character on Landroval, though, because making characters is what I do.

Awwww man! If you had done this Sunday I would have been able to be there!

This sort of thing is always fun. Saruman won't know what hit him!

In other news, fried chicken is the special at Ogric's Orcish Diner tonight...
  21. Knightsaber Worked The System

I stopped playing shortly after I maxed out my two characters in Mirkwood. Then about two weeks ago I went insane and bought a 3 month VIP sub, and both Isengard and Rohan. I've powered my hunter from 65 to 80, left my mini to rot in the meantime, and I hope I didn't already burn myself out. They really took hunters down a notch survivability wise, gee whiz shucks.

And I'm on Silverlode, which does no one here any good at all.

My hunter was originally my main but after the nerfs of 08 and 09 I found myself playing the game's uber ranged dps class: the minstrel. But I just took my hunter from 65 to 75 this past week, and I don't think his survivability is bad at all. He still can't lay out the dmg my minstrel can, but if you use all your skills (chants, oils, traps), I think the hunter is fine. He's only died once going through Dunland, and that's because I forgot about both hobbit silence and desperate flight. The big thing that really helps is those breach chants that reduce physical resistance; use those and get your physical mastery and crit rating up as high as you can and you'll see a big uptick in dmg.
  23. Knightsaber Worked The System

This is all true until they put you in Rohan :(

I'd heard hunters are real beasts on their war mounts. Not that you can be on horseback at all times.

My toon has close to 8k morale and over 3k power, but I see a lot of hunters in their mid-70s with less than 4k. Grouped with a 75 hunter when I was 72 and pulled agro on every single mob for the hour we ran around together. Probably the benefit of having other toons and a stash of gold for better equipment.

Edit: should also mention I'm thoroughly addicted to the use of fire-oil. Something about the visual/aural feedback the game gives from its use that's extremely satisfying.
  25. Knightsaber Worked The System

I'm pushing 9k at level 80 and 4k power, but yeah fire-oil. Playing kin-less and with Silverlode's distinct lack of AH usage I don't have much fire-oil unless I go buy the hunter trainer kind (if you can even still do that). I'd rather not level a scholar but it's starting to look almost necessary.

Well, my hunter is now 80th, is questing in the Norcrofts, and most mobs are still dying before they reach me. Here's my standard pull:

    1) breach-finder chant and fire/light oil are applied most of the time
    2) get within range of mob(s) - set a trap/snare if more than one mob
    3) hit improved focus (+25% crit chance/dmg for 5 sec) and then Hunter's Art (+5% ranged dmg)
    4) fire improved quick shot (slows mob) and then penetrating shot before 5 seconds expire, followed by swift bow and another penetrating shot
    5) this usually kills the mobs, but if I didn't crit much and they have 2K+ morale left, I hit them with dazing blow for a 5sec daze and let swift bow's cooldown expire and hit them with it again.

This is all in strength stance with heavy Bowmaster class traits slotted. My finesse is roughly 4k, crit hit is 6k, and physical mastery is a little over 16k.

  27. Knightsaber Worked The System

Yep this is pretty much how I pull. I might vary the swift bow and penetrating shots but it works out the same.

I'm wondering how you fare on your war-steed or in solo skirmishes? Because I am terrible with both, but excellent on foot in the landscape.

To be honest, my hunter doesn't feel nearly as powerful as my min when mounted, though in fairness I have a lousy saddle right now. But I can bring down mobs fairly quickly, so no problems so far.
  29. peterb Armchair Designer

I suck at being a hunter. give me more tips. I can kill things 1/1, but if more than one attack me i'm screwed.

Dazing blow, the melee stun attack, and bard's arrow are key cc tools for a hunter. And distracting shot. Bard's arrow might be a legendary trait, can't remember off-hand, but if you don't have it slotted do it. It has a quick cooldown. And if you know you're going to be more than 1 mob from a pull, set a snare/trap first, and if fighting animals use your fear shout (can't remember the skill name, it's been shift-8 for me for almost 6 years now). Use draw from the earth between fights to help keep your morale/power up. And don't concentrate too much on morale if doing so is making you forego your crit and physical mastery #s. Get those as high as you reasonably can. My quick/penetrating shots I start most fights off with probably average 3-4k in dmg and they crit quite a bit with improved focus active. So there goes half the mob's morale before it knows it's in a fight.

How did the chicken run go?

Anybody else remember the April Fool's day "prank" pulled by Turbine where one hit point chicken characters where allowed to spawn into the PvP region? The servers where long crashed and the event terminated before I even knew it was happening, but a friend managed to log in and have a blast.

Something about player character wargs chasing player character chickens... Good times.

I need some help guys. There's this glitch that sends me pinwheeling or like, the camera pans around 360 degrees which makes moving forward moving in a circle and the only way I get out of it is by exiting the game. Which, yeah. Also the notice I get upon re-entering is that the support request failed to send. So. Is this a thing I did wrong with assigning keys or a known problem w/patch?
  33. Mandella Worked The System

Do.. do you have your target lock on by any chance? Tap X to toggle it.

Otherwise, I have no clue, but I haven't been in game since latest patch.

Oh, yeah I might've. I'll try that, thanks! Edit to add that a sibling kinter keymashed the board when I was ingame so...this could be it.

Just tried that and no dice. It did something, but I still kept spinning around. Argh!
/just exited again because it happened (at least three times today fffffffff)
  35. Mandella Worked The System

It actually sounds like you might have a stuck key on your keyboard or mouse. Maybe one of the arrows or shift key?

You don't have a joystick plugged in do you?

See if alt-tabbing to windows and back corrects it also...

People in glff on Nimrodel were talking about some major changes Turbine currently has up on the test server. The main griping seemed to be that fate is going to be changed to become the statistic that determines your toon's crit chances regardless of class. So my hunter, who's sporting 1300 agility and crits like a mofo, but only has 101 fate, is going to take a nasty hit to his effective dps. Turbine has amazing timing when it comes to me and the hunter class.

Other changes are supposedly pretty major overhauls to the various Hytbold armor sets. This could be good, or it could be bad. I'm hoping the former since my mini just completed her armor today.
  37. Knightsaber Worked The System

They're also redoing most agility armor to add fate to it. I wouldn't worry too much. Actually the way I read it was that hunters will still get crit from agility but even more when they add fate. Still wouldn't worry.
  38. Mandella Worked The System

Also, Wardens are being shifted to Agility as their "Special" stat.
  39. So I am back on nimrodel playing a fun hobbit burglar(level 20). Are people still playing low level swag like the barrows, or should I look to find public groups?
  40. John Reynolds Oh, Come On

A few weeks ago I created a hobbit guardian and got him to level 25 or so. Found a barrows group, but probably due to sheer luck. Server pop on Nimrodel is so spotty compared to some of the others that it's just a matter of chance. You're liable to find a one or two higher levels just banging out deeds that you can open tap mobs with if you follow them around. My 82 hunter did that with a 81 warden last night in Thornehope, an area I didn't feel like solo-ing. We didn't fellie, but you get credit for the mobs if you touch them.
