Mass Effect 3 Discussion

Discussion in 'PC/Console Game Discussion' started by MSUSteve, Jan 12, 2012.

  1. As I said in the thread dedicated to most anticipated games of 2012, Mass Effect 3 is surely my most anticipated game of the year. I'm sure this thread will get some use.

Anyway, moving past ME3 before it's even out, Game Informer posted an interview with Casey Hudson in which Phil Kollar asks him about the future of the ME series. I might be reading too much into the comments, but it sure sounds to me like Bioware has plans to turn ME into an MMO.

I'd play a Mass Effect MMO. Even moreso if you could roll up a Hanar or Elcor.

Really looking forward to this. ME 2 is one of my favourite games of all time.

If I can't cure the genophage and unleash the new krogan populations on the reapers in order to 'save' the galaxy I'm going to burn down bioware's offices.

    MSUSteve uses "hong summon"...

    It's super effective!

    You're a horrible monster, Charles.
  8. balut Magister Mundi Elyscape

An unstoppable Rachni - Krogan horde, maybe with a genetic killswitch engineered by Mordin. Yesssss . . .

  9. I'm not saying I wouldn't play a Mass Effect MMO. I'd just rather have more single player games as opposed to an MMO. I said the same of The Old Republic and while I'm enjoying the heck out of that game, I'd still rather have a proper KOTOR III.

Thinking back on decisions made in past ME games, I feel like my Shepard is going to start with a leg up in terms of populations of loyal friends upon which to call for support in the war against the Reapers.

So, who else will be replaying a new character from ME1 in preparation for release day?

As someone who saved the rachni and krogan I hope at least one of those decisions bites me in the arse. Otherwise renegade characters will be really screwed.

I started my "canon" character the weekend after ME3 was announced. My wife actually did the same, too.
  13. sinfony Keeper of the Elemental Materials

My long-neglected plan of replaying the first two games on PC to have a canonical character ready for ME3 on PC seems doomed to fail at this point. Back to the 360, I suppose.

I just wonder if minerals will carry over. I could go all OCD and mine the shit out of every planet and start ME3 super rich and buy all the shit from the stores the first time around.

I wonder what happens to all the dead fish? I could never keep a fish alive in ME2.

Canonical characters ready or not, the real question is are you going to do another ME2 play through to refresh yourself on the story before starting ME3?

I think it's tempting to do so, but I'm not going to. My Paragon Femshep Soldier save game is ready and waiting, and I don't want to feel burnt out on the ME world before starting ME3.

    No, his plea is thus:
His argument seems based in this:

Essentially, he makes a distinction between reviews and critique, arguing that critiqe needs to be a separate discourse. And I agree, having a higher level critical discussion, not encumbered by review considerations is far more interesting than seing reviewers try to make a point and then get slammed for pissing all over someones favouritest game.
  21. Bryce Keeper of the Elemental Materials

I'm with Charles as denoted by my 'like'. Does this violate CheesyPoof's Like button rule by both liking his post and posting about it? Anyway, I saved both the Rachni and the Krogan - it's hard not to want to see them 'save' a thankless galaxy (and then make said galaxy deal with their past bad decisions).

I never saw this discussed on QT3, and it might be because it isn't a big deal, but there was an interview conducted with one of the writers (who previously wrote fan fic) and in it she went on and on about the gay storyline and how she was a big fan of yaoi which always seemed sort of odd as I wasn't sure what it had to do with, well, anything at all. Now, you want to include a homosexual storyline, fine by me, that's great. If it's badly written, that's not, but it has nothing to do with it being homosexual, just badly written. The whole Dragon Age thing, the fact that she came off as a woefully incompetent fangirl and the fact that the new character designs look like they're aiming at the airbrushed Jersey Shore crowd just make me feel extremely uneasy about the whole thing. I'm hoping the other eight writers temper her bad ideas but leave her good ones alone.

Upon re-reading, I want to clarify: I have no problem with any sort of relationship subgame, straight or gay, so long as it is handled well and isn't some dumbassed insulting caricature.

I don't know, when he says something like this,

It seems like a plea for mercy as much as a big red TEMPER YOUR EXPECTATIONS sign.

At least the combat will be more enjoyable than Dragon Age 2's. Maybe. Ah shit, who am I kidding...

Yeah, sorry, the part after me agreeing is all my own reasoning for why I agree, not what I thought he was saying. Poor formatting there.

I'm sure it's a plea from a gamedev's perspective but to me it read more like a plea for more games-critique in the wild and less in reviews. To be sure, scoring bereft of critiqe would favour the established franchises but they already do that and I'm pretty sure ME3 is going to harvest a good crop of highscore reviews, plea or no plea.

Hey, you want to talk about a dilemma, my game save from ME2 has a very well-developed character (went through all the DLC!) in which I saved every member of my crew EXCEPT MORDIN. So, do I replay the game yet again, or face the prospect of a Mordin-less Mass Effect 3?
  28. Nebty Magister Mundi Elyscape

I guess it depends on how much you like Mordin verses your willingness to replay the game again. Personally, he's one of my favourite characters so I'd say it's definitely worth it, just to see what he's up to in ME3.

Do you have a saved game right before the suicide mission? If you do, you could just replay that and the DLC stuff. I got him out alive by sending him back with the survivors.

I'm probably going to run through ME2 again before the third comes out, just to get myself back into the spirit of things.

I really like Mordin. But I played through ME2 twice already, second time on Insanity. Just not sure I have it in me to do again, especially with all the other unplayed stuff I've got around me.

Well, if you're on PC, you can go to the savegame database and find a completionist who did a similar character to you.

Another complication; I play on 360. Ah well, enough about my problems. I'll just learn to live in a Mordin-less world and cry myself to sleep.

Don't you have an autosave before the 'suicide' mission? I'm guessing you did his loyalty mission and the only reason he died was because of that dumb conditional where you've got to have enough assault rifle users set as rear guard.

You could simply not continue your old game. Mordin is a fan favourite, I'm sure he will be in the default story if he is in the game at all.
  37. Sarkus Hard Cider Gal

The Origin thing is annoying. If only because I really don't like the idea of major publishers all doing their own thing when it comes to digital delivery. The last thing I want to see in five years are a bunch of different Steam-like services installed on my computer and the only way to keep that from happening is to not support this other stuff. But EA is making it very hard by going this forced adoption route.

I don't know if that means I skip ME3, though. But to be honest its probably not the my most anticipated game the next few months anyway. Which is weird.
