Is there any way to manually install FTB? The launcher actually wants my Minecraft username and password? Are they fucking kidding me?
  2. DocLazy Beer

Just like every other modpack and magiclauncher.

Yeah I can live with it, I just really don't like it when they do that.
  4. DocLazy Beer

I don't think they really have an option of not doing it, unfortunately. The way minecraft is setup the launcher sets the password not the game itself.

This high-speed mod turnover and whatnot is sadly not what I'm looking for. :(

Three times in the past year is high turnover?
  7. DocLazy Beer

The first one was running for ages. The TFC server is still up I think. While TFC is a great mod I seemed to be the only one playing it, hence switching to something that has a little more something for everyone.

I am not hating this modpack, in fact, I am enjoying the challenge, but wow, they went out of their way to make everything as hard to build as possible, didnt they. I am trying to set up a biogas power plant, and where before loggers in forestry (for the cacti harvesting) were fairly cheap, now to produce two of them, I need 6 diamantine tubes, which meant 10 diamonds...

I was (before) planning to tech up IC2, but water power plants now require aluminum bars, but not the aluminum you get from mining. This stuff is a byproduct of another production.

What I would really like would be a diagram of some sort on how all these different mods connect...

Ah well, guess I am going diamond hunting...
  9. Pogo Hard Cider Gal

It's funny because creators of mods tend to lose a sense of perspective... their feedback loop consists of hardcore players who start finding aspects of the game much too easy after grinding for materials, so the dev increases the costs of materials and this usually results in requiring more time building quarries or more time grinding. It's silly.
  10. Wader Beer

If I had a quarry, I wouldnt mind... But a quarry now requires a diamond drill from IC2, which requires some type of IC power, and we are back in the whole "aluminum problem" again.

Most of the difficulty probably comes from Gregtech, which seems to have been developed pretty much like Pogo describes. Gregtech is an IC2 addon, but it also goes and alters some other mods; the quarry is a Buildcraft machine, but Gregtech changes it to need a diamond drill instead of a pickaxe, the drill itself is harder to make, etc.

It is a more interesting challenge for people like me who were tired of going through all the same IC2 prep steps every new game, but yeah, not everyone's going to be approaching it the same way... :) Fortunately a lot of the Gregtech stuff is configurable, so let me know if there's anything you think is particularly unfair and I'll see if it can be tweaked.

And sorry for all of the network trouble people have been having. I don't know if the server's just in a poor location for a bunch of others or what, as I don't seem to have any trouble myself.

    Edit:
Yeah, TFC was really just a temporary experiment and I was amazed anyone even stuck with it more than a few days. :) Once you get to the point where you're comfortably surviving and have durable tools though, there's not much left to do but chisel the fine detail into the statuary outside your mansion. I'll probably close that server and put up the map archive sometime soon.

I recommend starting with thermal expansion and maybe factorization. The thermal expansion portable tanks are really handy as you can have an oil well miles from your home and easily transport the oil via the nether. Ic2 stuff with gregtach is kind of end game. Which is a good thing, as ic2 by itself is boring at this point. Gregtech adds a lot of interesting stuff to play with.

All my connection problems are from having a crappy rural internet connection.

Is there any way to downgrade a modpack except for uninstalling the entire thing? I accidently installed the update for our modpack and now I cant log into the server...

    YOU FOOL!

At some point this week, provided the world does not blow up or HB doesn't accidentally summon a chunk-destroying meteor, I will be hosting a rum tasting at the Secret Speakeasy. Coordinates and time to follow!

I don't know whats up, but if anyone has a pipe transportation system check it out. The one I use to automatically dump my smelting system into a chest is acting strange. Today it started shooting stuff out randomly and deleting items. I regularly put in cobblestone to get smooth stone and today I lost over 200 cobble. I could see the smooth stone moving along and then it would start disappearing - along with my iron. I ended up with about half my iron in the output chest but no stone made it. I even disassembled the pipe system - had nothing pop out - and then put it back together and observed the same thing. I don't know if it's a bug or if it's the server acting strange - which it really is today.

Anyone have suggestions on getting Titanium? So close to a quarry...

Edit: it looks like someone helpfully put a few stacks of Bauxite in the community chest? I'll see if I can refine that and put what I don't use back for anyone else who needs it.

Sorry for the lag trouble today, though I think I've narrowed it down to something in my beekeeping area. The strange part is that that area is kept loaded by a chunk loader and it's fine when the server starts up, but as soon as I actually enter the area myself, the CPU and memory usage skyrocket and that's when the lag starts and it then stays high; leaving the area doesn't stop the lag. So, for now, just stay out of that area.

I threw the Bauxite in there - I didn't have any use for it, so I figured if anyone does, it's theirs.

The server's open again, and although I'm still not 100% sure of the cause, it looks like it wasn't the beekeeping area specifically but any transitions between the overworld and the Nether; I could trigger it by logging in right at spawn, entering the Nether, and then exiting out to spawn again. Based on VisualVM sampling, it seems to be related to Thaumcraft aura calculations in the Nether somehow, would trigger when Nether chunks were loaded without anybody actually in the Nether, and Portal Gun portals were keeping chunks loaded.

So, for now, don't use Portal Guns in the Nether (or chunk loaders in general, probably), and we'll see if that improves things. I've erased the portals that were already open.

Running a minecraft server is more programming than writing a mod!
  26. DocLazy Beer

I think I've found the problem. The aura nodes in the nether spawn area seem to have disappeared. I imagine it's doing a large search to try and find an aura node. The good news is the aura nodes can be regenerated via a config file setting.

So I may have just crashed the server. Apparently I ran into a serious duping bug and my diamond chest didnt have the 600 or so cells that I had left in it. It was uh. Full. And then I broke it, there were fireworks of cells and then the server went down.

Edit: Last night I noticed that at my magma refill center the amount of empty cells I had stayed constant - while filled cells kept showing up. So I went to move it today, and apparently the amount of empty cells hadn't stayed constant - they had filled up some machinery and chests and then I gave both a sharp whack while dismantling the system, to move it of course. Well geometry exploded in my face and then the server went and imploded.

    Sorry!

Edit 2: HAhahaha omg sorry again. So apparently the cells are stored in weird parts of the pneumatic network, not the chest like I thought. So when I immediately wacked off a piece of the network everything went and kersploded out in a fiery explosion of cells... again. I might just have to call it a loss and wall it off.

Edit 3: So, apparently it was worse than I ever could have imagened. Seems like possibly 40,000 cells in my relay. No idea how many of those were stacked. And then Hali hit it. And crashed the server in an explosion of cells. Apparently I broke my relay with that many cells, that would explain why nothing was outputting from it this morning. Hali will be better equipped to give an explanation, for amusements sake.

I haven't checked this thread in I guess about a month, I thought it was just dead (I guess I shouldn't rely on the Alerts at the top of the forum). Anyway, I'd like to check out the FTB server even though I'm late to the party. I've been playing with most of these mods except for GregTech, so it'll be interesting to see the difference.

Also, I just learned this the other day, regarding pneumatic tube systems: all of Redpower's "inventory" blocks (like the Relay) actually have an infinite inventory where items get backlogged until they can be sent down the tubes. That pretty much explains what happened with Morberis's cells, if they kept getting put into the Relay with nowhere to go. The difficulty, I think, is that other mods just see the Relay as a chest that always has a free slot, so it's not easy to automatically shut it off.

If you don't check an alert for a thread your watching a couple of times it stops alerting you about that thread, which is pretty cool imo.

I've been experimenting with tesseracts, they're straight forward for the most part but they have some oddities.

-Straight up as per the wiki, 25% power loss when transferring power through them.
-The liquid tesseract, at least with my magma setup using liquiducts must have the connections on the liquiducts, all the liquiducts connecting to the tesseract, as solid. Don't use the output setting on the liquiduct, even with redstone power it doesn't output. If they're both solid it does.
-At least on my copy I have no buttons to configure the tesseract, that's under control and configuration. In the dark green area though there are area's to click that will configure the tesseract. Maybe it's just my texture pack -soartex
-They do not work with pneu tubes.
-They can output directly into tanks and chests. They cannot output directly into a sorting machine, maybe if you add a redstone pulse to the machine, but they can receive input from a filter. Soo... requires a pulse?

Also if you want free magma, tune in to frequency 700.
  33. benloran This Is SEWIOUS

I'm pretty sure it's your texture pack. I edited a texture pack I use and the tesseract GUI works fine. Also the output setting on liquiducts is non-intuitive to me. Most of the time, you don't want to use it at all, I think... it's mostly to force machines that don't understand liquiducts to output liquids anyway, from what I understand.

I haven't tried this, but when I heard about the 25% power loss when transferring power, it made me think, why not just make an item tesseract instead, and send energy cubes back and forth? You'd only need a turtle or some deployers/blockbreakers, and you'd have 0% loss. I guess if you're /only/ using Thermal Expansion, you can't do something like that, but who uses only one mod these days? :)
  34. DocLazy Beer

The liquiduct settings are handy when they are connected to tanks, as you control when you want them to pump and also to prevent the wrong liquid going to the wrong place.

It sounds like something for an easy setup, do the easy way pay the penalty.

I just wish the liquiduct settings were universal, having them act one way with thermal expansion machines and one way with others is just confusing.

Also, I'm getting pretty close to getting to the point where I can make tons of rail. Who wants a train to their place, and if so please post the co-ordinates and any special instructions.

My entire nights worth of play just vanished in front of my eyes thanks to a combination of a ninja zombie, lava and EU ping.

So long Fortune 3, Unbreakable 3, Efficient 4 Pickaxe. You will be sorely missed (along with enough materials to have me sorted for days and finally teching up) :(

I think I'm probably done with this for the next few days at least.

There's now a rough map available here. A lot of the fine details are still missing, so don't be surprised if your base looks like a mess, but it should give you an idea of the lay of the land at least. I can put markers on it, so if you want one pointing out your spots, just let me know what the coords are.

Sorry to hear about that McKnight, Minecraft can be a harsh mistress all too often. :(

It's fine, it just hurts because I'm at the "brand new" level to the server. I'm over it now, it's a massive set back but that's all it is. I'll catch up with you guys eventually :)

Your map should help me pick out a prime spot aswell.

Don't worry McKnight, I'm brand new still, too... I've only been playing this weekend. You're not alone! :)
