Okay, now that I've figured out how to do markers on the map, you can actually place your own. Place a sign, put just "POI" in the top line and whatever text you want on the marker on the rest of the lines, and it should show up on the map when the POI checkbox is on under 'Signs'.

Hmm quick question. I've put up a few gregtech items, the industrial grinder, electrolyzer, and singularity compressor and want to connect them to my automated pneumatic tube system. I thought I could just put relays in like with my previous system, but that didn't work. Neither did putting in pipes.

How can I remove items from Gregtech items? I really haven't touched IC2 or Gregtech - especially with any automation. Googling is getting me nowhere.

Have you tried using filters or transposers (with timers) to pull stuff out of the GregTech machines? I don't know if it will work, just wondering.

Yeah, Redpower transposers seem to work fine with the electrolyzer and blast furnace, at least. Direction might matter, but pulling from the side seems to work for collecting outputs.

Hmm I could do that. Maybe put one timer in and pipewire to hide it all. However I might go with Gregtech just to keep the look the same.
  8. DocLazy Beer

Golems also work. Direction does matter, put stuff in the top pull them out the sides.

Seriously? That's gonna look so much uglier and take up way more room than in the bottom out the top like all my other machines. I might have to look into researching to golems, how do they deal with height differences?

I think I'm going to stay put, I have a plan for the wasteland now and I'm going to level half the nearby jungle to make some farmland to "summer" in.

So don't be quarrying North-East ok Morberis? You can keep going the other directions if you want (that village is pretty useless anyway).

You may be able to do something with the bottom side, I just haven't bothered yet. Your best bet would probably be the item moving machines GT introduces.

Golems are like us, can only jump one block high.

Hmm... can I create a golem that will gather materials to put in an assembly table... to make another golem...?

I don't think so because I think you have to use the special thaumcraft crafting table to make them.
  15. DocLazy Beer

You'll have to ask the army of military golems standing outside your fortress' front gate.
  16. DocLazy Beer

Serious answer, you probably could automate making golems, using golems. But as Ben said you's need to use the thaumcraft gear.

So that's what I've tried to do. I have large buffers on the top of each grinder, and a electric translocators on the sides. I have 32EU power supplied to those via a LV transformer, with its 3 prong output side facing the LV glass wire. I have 128EU glass wire going into the the grinders. For the buffers I have their output red side facing down into the grinders, and I have the translocators input side facing the grinder. Neither the translocator or the buffer seems to be working. What am I doing wrong? I tried using the IC2 tester but that tells me no power is currently flowing, though I don't see why not. The LV transformer will run other LV equipment if I wire that in, and the grinder works.

Odd: Reloaded and my LV transformer was pointing in a different direction. I'm not sure if I accidentally rotated it or there's some type of bug, but it works now!

I just noticed in the Forestry patch notes that they'll be disabling creation of the old-style farms (e.g., the Combine, Farm, Turbary, Logger, Cactus Harvester, etc. blocks), to be replaced with the new multi-farms, though existing old ones will continue to work. I don't know when the Mindcrack pack will be updating to it, but it wouldn't hurt to start stocking up on the old machines if you think you might want to use them...

(I haven't checked out the new multi-farms yet, though I have heard some grumbling about them being too costly, requiring fertilizer for everything now, etc.)

You can still make old farms? This changes everything.

I'm now up to 100 bee species discovered, out of 135 total, including uranium, diamond, and platinum producers.

I'd better avoid any Pokémon games, because they will end me.

Something seems wrong with the server. I've got a 5-bar connection but it's really laggy. I chopped the bottom of a 6-block-tall scaffolding and it took nearly a full minute for all the pieces to fall (interesting to watch though... the bottom piece would pop off, then after 10 seconds the next piece would pop off, etc). Do we have too many chunkloaders going or something (I'm the only person on at the moment)?

I was trying to remove water from my quarry and I think the water flow processing is really bogging it down right now, and I had to restart it with more memory earlier to avoid out-of-memory crashes as well. I think we just have to wait it out for now, unfortunately.
  23. benloran This Is SEWIOUS

Ok, no worries, just thought I'd mention it in case it was something serious.

I tried the Sphax pack but seeing the items that hadn't been retextured (thaumcraft 3, one of the rail packs) was really jarring and everything seemed to chug even on a 64x pack. Since there don't seem to be alot of packs that retexture everything in mindcrack I went with the advertized soartex, which is basically a smoother minecraft default textures. This way everything runs smooth and it's not so jarring when I see oil sands for instance. Plus my tower looks terrible with sphax, instead of clean industrial all the glass has wood borders and seems like it comes from the flintstones.

I'm using Soartex, but I want something with a bit more zing to it. Anyone got a favorite?

Sphax with the FTB pack was definitely one of the best that I saw. However you'll want to keep your eye open for when a few missing mods get added. Here for the upcoming Thaumcraft addition.

I use Sphax and it looks awesome, takes a fair while to load the game now though so keep that in mind. Although once you do the first load it's fine. It also changes how thing look substantially, I found IC2 stuff especially jarring until I got used to it.

My favorites, which I tend to switch between every week or two:

    • John Smith Technician's Remix - This is what I've been using lately and has been inspiring while building my castle. 32x, very rustic/fantasy themed. Seems complete with our FTB pack (I haven't seen any pink or missing textures).
    • Isabella II - I used Isabella for a very long time and still love it. 16x, and has a low-contrast, muted feeling. Some people think it's too drab/dark, but you can always adjust your brightness if you otherwise like the smooth textures. Seems mostly complete and up to date for FTB.
    • Greatwood - 16x and, to me, one of the most beautiful packs I've seen. Unfortunately it is fairly incomplete (even the vanilla textures are incomplete; the original artist kind of disappeared a few months ago so it may never be finished).

The server's been updated to version 8.1.1. Just minor updates, I think, nothing too major.

Edit: Though jetpacks seem a bit touchier than before...
  37. benloran This Is SEWIOUS

So for the past week I've been kind of obsessed with building a castle. I'm not even sure why, really... it just happened. Nothing about it has anything to do with Feed the Beast, but I still have had a blast with it. At this point it's mostly finished, at least to the point where I can get back to the business of building an industrial empire.

I'm planning to move all of my stuff here and using it as my new base of operations. The idea is that my company, Glacier Industries, Inc, has purchased the castle and has been restoring it with the purpose of using it for research and development. Somehow that story makes the whole thing make sense to me in the context of this modpack. :-D

Anyway, here's what it looks like:

If you want to see more, I've got an album with a bunch of shots taken as I was building it. Also, feel free to visit and look around. From the Nether hub, go down the South hallway a while, and there's a sign to my area on the left. Down another long hallway there'll be 2 portals, the castle is the first one on the left (there are signs).

Are you tired of running out of power in the middle of nowhere? Of having your electric treetap sputter and wheeze just as you're about to grab that first resin? Well zap those items back to life with the Institute's Remote Recharge Service! Just slap together an orange/orange/magenta ender pouch, toss any drained devices into it*, and before you know it**, they'll be returned to the pouch fully charged!

(* Note: devices supported limited to: electric wrench, treetap, and hoe, electric jetpacks, RE-batteries, energy crystals, and nano armour. EDIT: Also added the rock cutter and mining laser. Clogs in the system by unsupported devices must be claimed in person at the Institute's recharger station, in the lower MFSU.)

(** Note: service time is only estimated to be lower than the heat death of the universe. A jetpack may only take half a minute or so, but larger capacity items may take much longer.)

Ah. I'll move it tonight or tomorrow morning. If you want you can move it before then but I hold you liable for any breaks! =p

Just been playing too much minecraft so I've been on a burnout prevention break.
