Miner Wars 2081

Well, I pre-ordered this game what seems like years ago. The technology looked outstanding and the alpha, while empty, impressed me with its performance and the destructible terrain.

It was released yesterday, and while there is a story and AI and missions now, the performance actually seems worse than during alpha and the release is buggier than any I've seen in a while. So, this thread is starting out pretty negatively: this game should not have been released yesterday. It needs at LEAST a few more months of bug squashing.

The bugs I've encountered: the game only uses 1 core at the moment, meaning it runs like ass if anything is happening.
The game seems to not recognize movement keys for your ship, though other buttons work, meaning you can't move at all. That's a game-breaking bug, obviously, and while the developers have known about it for a while (as is true about the single core issue), it is still not fixed. So, enjoy!

You just can't move at all? Does that happen to everyone? I can't believe they would release it if so.

How does this compare to Miner 2049'er?

No, not everyone. But I only care about myself. It seems, from their forums, to be a widespread issue, however.

I was able to move just fine in the beta just a few weeks ago. I wonder if that was broken since...

Bugs aside, how is this? Based on the video, this very much looks like the type of game I could really get into.

I've only played a bit of the beta so far, but it has a lot of potential. It feels like a cross between Descent and maybe Privateer in what little I've played.
  8. Marchhhare Armchair Designer

Yeah, that's the vibe I was getting from the video. It looks like Space Miner (for iOS) meets Descent.

Ahh Space Miner, my favorite game when I had iOS. Soooo good.

I'm kind of surprised they managed to release something at all, this whole thing sounded like a disaster from the beginning. I don't think I'll ever get this, as this was the same company that thought it was a good idea to reward customers for constantly spamming various parts of the internet.

I've only played like 20-30 minutes, bitch.

So what's the verdict on this?

I was tempted by the free weekend and sale, but the bug issues made me balk. Did anyone try it?

A friend of mine did. He says it's a piece of shit that basically doesn't work.

I'm trying this now, picked it up in the winter sale.

I'll say one thing about it - you don't get eased into the game! And, so far, it has not been a forgiving game. You can die very quickly, especially from turrets. Sometimes I feel like I'm just playing each mission through until I find a new turret to die to so that when I start over I'll know where it is. This could change as the game progresses, I'm not very far.
