Last time I took a few days off, I made a list of everything I had, then made a painting queue, being careful to vary scales, armies, and time periods to make sure I didn't get bored painting too much of any one thing. I resolved not to buy anything else until I had it worked through.

To reward myself for my diligence, I immediately bought two tank platoons and some more ancients. Somehow, I don't think the sabbatical would help...

    A man can dream, though.

But yeah. No matter how much I caught up, I'm pretty much always going to keep buying shiny new stuff faster than I can build and paint it.

I'm in nearly the same boat as nlanza - I've started a few zombies in Zombicide, I've put together and primed the Human and Orx teams for Dreadball, and I just got my copy of Sedition Wars too. Oh and I still have the Kings of War Kickstarter stuff including 1000 pts of Undead and 1000 pts of Orks. At my current rate of one model every few months, I need several years of sabbatical.
  4. salwon Oh, Come On

And don't forget those Reaper minis that will hit in a few months!

And wave 2 of Zombicide! And then wave 2 of Sedition Wars!

Fortunately I was able to resist the Reaper minis, I need a game tied with the minis to tempt me into purchasing them. I forgot about my Quantum Expanse ships that I still need to paint too. Kickstarter is pure evil if you like minis.

Oh god, I'd forgotten about S2 and S3 of Dreadball and Rivet Wars. At least Rivet Wars looks like it'll be pretty playable unpainted.

Also in my case, the Kastor and Red Star 47 garage kit models from Industria Mechanika.

Hah, those look awesome. I like the Hornithopter too!

Some awesome person released Photoshop templates for the X-Wing game, so I decided to start in on creating my solo campaign. It's going to include some custom ships, and may involve an encounter with a pissed off bounty hunter.

Obviously the point value is for comic relief only. The person who made the templates also did not include a Boost icon or I would have added one. The upgrade icon on the left is for tractor beams I'm making rules for, and the one on the right is for an ion cannon (which is the same thing as the ion cannon turret, only it shoots in a normal arc instead of in a full circle). His maneuver dial will allow for some tight U-turns, and that plus his high defense represent the fact that he's immune to the effects of high-G maneuvering and has modified his ship to turn faster than anything a fleshy pilot could endure.

Fantastic work, how did you do the base? Just green stuff and grit?

    Thanks!

As much as I'd like to say I made the base, it actually came from Dragon Forge's Ancient City bases.

Nicely done! The Judicator looks fantastic...the detail with the Cryxian jacks is great.

Thanks. It wasn't the plan originally, but then I saw the front foot didn't quite sit flat, so I decided to get some bits on PP's webstore, and then saw the Slayer arm and metal cables and shazam. :)

    Arrrgh fucking hell these models

So I'm trying to put together one of these:

Bear in mind that it's not heroic-scale - those are 25mm bases, this is a small mode. It's 4 parts. Right leg is separate (easy enough), right arm / weapon / left hand are one piece, left arm is another. The left arm is barely 1cm long and tiny and fiddly. Somehow you're meant to glue it to the left shoulder and the hand on the gun at the same time while also gluing the right arm in the correct pose. I've tried and failed multiple times now. This is so very fucking annoying.

I love mine, great for fiddly stuff like that. For clarity, I mean the clamps, not the useless magnifying glass. I took that off.

I have actually lost my desk clamp. I should find it, eh?

(I eventually succeeded with a lucky guess on gluing the left arm to the gun first, then squeezing both arms onto the model and praying it didn't all go flying. It did, but 3rd time lucky)

Privateer's TempleCon keynote was this morning, and the videos are up on YouTube now.

They announced a new Warmachine faction that looks completely fuckin' awesome:

There's really some weird stuff in play for them. Weird and awesome.

Also, the Convergence will have a battle engine and colossal shortly-ish after they launch named the Transfinite Emergence Projector and Prime Axion, respectively.

Yeah, I adore the names they've announced.

The thing where MAT/RAT for Convergence forces comes from the warcaster's stats is a neat touch too.

Yea, the MAT and RAT passing will be interesting. The 2 war casters we've seen have had RAT and Mat of 5, and the other was MAT 7 RAT 2. Also, when they very briefly showed the damage grid, there was no Cortex boxes, only the Induction Node.

I bought that turret set for X-Wing mentioned a page or so ago, and now I know why he's selling them so inexpensively:

Now I get to sand them all down, drill holes for the gun barrels, and try to figure out some foolproof way of getting the tops to stay on the bottoms and still rotate (I may try magnets as I have a ton of Buckyball magnets that might work perfectly for this).

It would have been less work to buy a dowel stick and carve the damned things.

So I picked up a miniature holder from PK-PRO, and I am super super happy with it:

Feels nice in my hand, and I definitely felt a good bit stabler painting fine details with it.

Totally worth the money, even though purchasing the things from the US is a pain in the ass and shipping is expensive.

I also got a 54mm one for painting warjacks and the like, but I haven't tried that one out yet.

I've seen those on BGG. The guy put in a lot of effort, but in the end I think his starship debris models are kind of ugly. And I'm really still not sold on the idea of having a Death Star field for your primary playmat. I can see doing a trench run for the novelty, but for the most part I think a space mat has the most utility. That is, if you really care all that much about the backdrop. Though even if you don't, I'd think a solid dark color would be preferable to something as busy as a Death Star. That said, those turrets are pretty great (though the look more stone than metal) and the ultimate result with the 3D boxes looks pretty sweet.

Man, these b-holes need to just release wave 2 already. I keep buying Android expansions which I never even get to play. At least I know some people interested in playing some X-Wing.

Yeah, I don't get the Death Star thing. I know the trench run is iconic and all, but as a play mat it's way too busy-looking.
    Bahimiron likes this.
  36. Baker Worked The System

I definitely prefer a dark space mat to all the Death Star mats people keep making. There's already enough clutter with all the tokens without adding a Death Star texture and drab grey to the mix.

I liked his destroyed ships--particularly the Y-Wing. I think they would be neat to leave behind after real ships get destroyed. as dynamic obstacles. For general terrain I prefer the 3D asteroids I've seen. I need to get some lava rocks and make my own.

I loved his turret design. Especially the custom-cast barrels. I was less impressed with his paint job, which did end up looking like stone dragged through a dirty ashtray. I wonder if just leaving them white with a dark wash would be better.

And yes, Wave 2 can't get here soon enough...

Unlike the fancy holder that nlanza has (and which I'm jealous of), I made my own homemade wonky set-up. I got some 5/8 inch dowel rods and cut them into 3" lengths. I then took a 2x4 and an 11/16 drill bit and spaced out 20 holes about 1" apart. I nailed on a little thin piece of plywood to keep everything in and stabilize the 2x4. A little ball of blu-tak sticks each model on a rod. I can use this rig for spraying primer on 20 models at a time, and then I can take each model and paint away with a nice handle.

Golf tees and some styrofoam for me. nife2o4 has everything in a nice line, which I like. I went with a checkerboard pattern - I can get a lot of minis on at once, but it's easy to miss spots when spraying blindly.
