...don't you freaking dare blow this...don't you DARE... Edit: THEY PULLED IT OFF! BALTIMORE-YANKEES DIVISIONAL SERIES!
If you're looking for struggling players who may do better elsewhere, I have a Jose Valverde I'm dying to unload.
I would say the Os are breaking my heart, but I didn't expect them to get this far. Maintaining perspective as best I can.
I'm torn. I'm not a fan of the Yankees, but with so many former Mariners (particularly Ichiro and Ibanez) it's a twisted thing. I'd like Ichiro to get that ring before he retires, since he'd never get it in Seattle, but come on. It's the Yankees.
Oh man, Jason Werth. Walk off home run on the 13th pitch of the at bat, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeewwwhhgggggggg!!!!!!!!!
Hooray for the Giants at least forcing a game 7. <3 I was worried they'd whimper out almost as sadly as the Yankees did.
Hi. My name is Mike, I'm from New Zealand where we play cricket and rugby and go surfing and fishing a lot and live with hobbits and orcs and probably do some other stuff you probably haven't heard of either and uh.....I think I like baseball. Specifically - I've played my share of baseball video games, going back to Hardball on the C64 and various iterations between then and now (most recently, The Bigs). In September I was lucky enough to go to a Giants game at AT&T Park and uh, yeah, it's kinda all clicked into place. I've watched my fair share of American sports on the telly and I've liked the Kevin Costner baseball movies (especially For Love of the Game and ps bite me if it's not any good, I like it!) but none of that compared to being there. I was with a guy I work with and was able to explain enough of what was going on without getting punched by the guy in the row in front of me and John just about pissed himself when I confessed that "video games" was how I knew enough about what was going on. I'll accept that I was in the right place at the right time but holy shit, you Yanks know how to host a sports game. I'm very, very jealous of the enthusiasm from the crowd, the respect everyone had for the game and how a a million litres of beer can be consumed by that many people with no-one turning into a wanker (ok, I didn't get to a 49ers game). Coming back to a provincial rugby game at our local stadium was a bit of a downer! PS Go Giants. PPS Having an American friend on tap to answer my inane questions helps immensely, thanks UnionCarbide! PPPS Wore my Giantbomb t-shirt and Giants cap to cricket tonight. Got asked about the Giants game today and not Giantbomb. Maybe I'm not alone!
AT&T Park is a GREAT park. Before I gave a shit about baseball, I still loved going to games there, because it's gorgeous and everyone is super into it and I don't think there's a bad seat in the house (or at least I have never sat in one). And now that I like baseball, it's even more awesome! :D I only have old Yankees Stadium to compare it to, though. But AT&T Park is about a jillion times better.
AT&T Park is beautiful. It's quite the place to watch a game. The fans are pretty crazy there. Most parks have their own charm, but it's something to be at a World Series game. I was at game 5 of the 2001 series at old Yankee Stadium. Even though I didn't care about either team, it was an amazing atmosphere and game. I have a special place in my heart for old Tiger Stadium. It wasn't the prettiest place and Detroit pales next to San Francisco, but there was no better place to watch a baseball game.
Congrats Giants fans. I've figured out Detroit's major flaw. They didn't have nearly enough insane homeless people on their roster.
It's hardly just Giants fans that do that, but yeah, it's something I've always found a bit baffling. "Woo, Local Sports Team! LET'S BURN STUFF"
I can't read sports blogs because of stuff like that. I tried reading McCovey Chronicles but they seem to be really bad in that aspect. The fanbase has become quite obnoxious over the past couple of years. Anywho. Glad to see Zito win it all and be a big part of it. Suck it Giants fans who hate him! He really hasn't been that bad, sure not worth 20 million a year but not all that bad either. It'll be interesting to see who the Giants resign. They should have a ton of money with Huff and Rowand coming off the books. I hope they resign Hunter Pence. Was disappointed to see him to go Philly last year at the trading deadline since he was available. Really like the guy and was probably a key factor in the Giants winning. His speeches and leadership was something the Giants had that the Tigers seem to lack from everything I read and heard. Leyland was great in his postgame interview and giving the Giants their due, such a classy manager.
I generally don't read the comments at McCovey, but I like the actual blog posts pretty well. I was happy for a lot of people on the Giants, Zito being among them. I have a big ol' crush on Romo, so I was thrilled at how he finished the game last night. :P
How would you like to be Giancarlo Stanton right about now? Or a Marlins' fan, assuming the existence of such a being.
On the other hand, Jose Bautista is happy! The Marlins have lost pretty much all credibility as a franchise until such time as Loria sells them off, which is pretty sad for a team that has 2 championships in relatively recent memory. I bet all the taxpayers who built them their new stadium are really pleased with how things have gone, too. At least they still have this.
Aren't the Marlins suppose to only sell off their parts after they win a World Series? They're doing it all wrong. I really feel bad for Stanton now. Really like him as a player and will probably be the only decent player left on the team. We'll see how this trade goes if it happens. An aging Reyes and Buehrle and a broken down ace for what?
The Mariners have DFA'd Chone Figgens. And all the fans had something to add to their "thankful for" list tomorrow.
A Yankees fan loses his religion after Fox/News Corp buys a 49% share in the Yankees, and decides on a new team to root for: http://blogs.thescore.com/mlb/2012/11/21/flip-flop-fly-ball-losing-my-religion/ Needless to say I like the outcome.
