Time magazine did a very indepth article on the subject. Worth a read...but LONG: http://healthland.time.com/2013/02/20/bitter-pill-why-medical-bills-are-killing-us/
Did you do this on purpose to get away from the discussion happening in the SS? Or did you not notice this: http://brokenforum.com/index.php?threads/have-a-cursing-thread-about-health-care-in-the-us.5127/
Very long (longest single author article Time has ever published) but good stuff. Note: it restricts itself almost entirely to hospital billing. It's also pretty enraging at points.
Damnit! I looked in SS too but didn't see it for some reason. Sorry about that...a mod can nix this, if needed. Why is it in SS anyway, though? Surely on this one issue, the debate isn't that acrimonious is it? We can agree that healthcare costs are out of control without getting into dangerous political waters.
The one in SS is for bitching, moaning, and generally "fuck youuu healthcare". It's entirely appropriate imo to have both, since the discussion on how to fix it can be entirely D&D worthy. I just felt that the relationship between US Citizens and their Healthcare had deteriorated to the point where the two were no longer on speaking terms.
