Has anyone seen this? Is it as bad as it looks? Could it possibly be as bad as Mark Kermode says it is?
It has a 4% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Toronto Star movie critic gave it 0 out of 4 stars and called it the worst film ever.
You'd have to wonder if, say, Kate Winslet knew that this was going to end up in a movie - like, maybe it was sold to her as a sketch for an SNL-type show? That still doesn't explain how some of the world's most bankable starts - some of who are apparently somewhat discerning about the films that they make - end up doing a film like this. Was it all funnier on paper? Oddly, I'm most bummed out about Anna Faris - she's a great comic actress but she never seems to end up in anything worthwhile. I'm guessing it's a combination of not being very good about filtering the good roles from the bad and the age-old problem of Hollywood being a tough place to find decent work if you're a woman.
Every time I saw the trailers for it, it just made me think that it was a comedy version of those Valentine's Day/New Year romantic comedies, where everyone's just showing up to punch a paycheck.
The reviews for this movie are how I've felt about every Farrelly Brothers movie ever, except for the Bill Murray parts of Kingpin, so I'm really hoping this finally puts the stake in their career.
If she'd stuck with business management from the Murphy Group I think that her current career prospects would be much improved.
I've heard enough people say this that I officially want to see it now. Although "The Citizen Kane of awful" belongs to The Room now and forevermore.
Be warned that Roeper says that you shouldn't see the film expecting to have a "so bad it's good" experience. It's more like "So bad, it's painful."
