Must Haves for the 3DS?

Over the week I got a 3DS for the holiday season. And now I'm trying to decide what to play on it besides my continuing mission to finally beat Etrian Odyssey 3. I haven't kept up at all with the releases on the system and with hopefully Christmas sales next week, I wanted to know what games to look for. I've heard that the Adventure Time game turned out pretty well, but I also heard it was easy.

And before anyone suggests it, I already know about Etrian Odyssey 4 in February, that's why I'm trying to finally finish the third one.

Also with the 3DS shop, did anything notable come out on it that I should be aware of?

Fire Emblem in February. Too far away still.

Kid Icarus: Uprising, Pushmo, Super Mario 3D Land.

In terms of things that aren't ESSENTIAL - The Denpa Men is really cool, if a bit grindy; still, if you like EO "grindy" isn't a problem.

Liberation Maiden is fantastic, but it's very short, and (outside of the spectacular final boss) its boss fights are mediocre, which is a problem for an arcade-style shooter like this. Buy it if you like score-attacking things, but if you're the type who just plays through once... There's not really much game there.

Ocarina of Time 3D is Ocarina of Time. It's probably the best way to play Ocarina of Time, but it's still Ocarina of Time. Pick it up if you feel the need to purchase yet another copy of Ocarina of Time.

I think I have the original DS copy of Devil Survivor somewhere around here. Is the 3DS version a big enough change to warrant another purchase?
  6. Brinstil This Is SEWIOUS

Pushmo and Crashmo are pretty great eshop games. In terms of actual games, Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward is really damn good (though you should play 999 first on the DS). It is basically half choose-your-own-adventure, and half adventure game, with a ridiculous but compelling story. Super Mario 3D Land is also quite good. And from what I understand, Devil Survivor for the 3DS adds voicework, more demons, and an improved demon compendium.

As Brinstil noted, Overclocked adds full voice acting, some additional demons, a demon compendium (lets you rebuy demons without waiting for them to show up in the auction), as well as decent-length epilogue campaigns for most of the various endings. It notably does not add 3D except during the opening movie and fusion scenes.

Weird, I typed in 3ds in the search bar and came back with an error message.

So that art academy title turned out ok? Regarding Virtue's Last Reward, I did play 999 and enjoyed it so that sounds like a good one to get.

What's the difference between New Super Mario Bros 2 and Mario 3D Land and why people prefer the latter?

I think there are limits on how short a search string can be. It's better to just go through the first few pages Ctrl+Fing what you want since there are only a few pages of active threads at BF.

NSMB2 is 2D and retro. Except the NSMB series is not retro enough for me and it annoys me. SM3DL is a 3D, Mario 64 style one. No hub world, though, there are discrete levels.
