I don't think I caught which god Christano and Myra served.

By the way, is ADwR explicitly set in the DnD 'verse? I know NWN is, but I wasn't quite sure for this one.

It's explicitly not set in the Forgotten Realms.

The ADWR wiki says that Christano and Myra belong to the Church of the Sun Lord, who is a good deity, although there aren't any further details.

Everyone's getting so excited about the MAGIC HASTE RING, so I don't want to burst your bubble, but once-per-day skills/items have limited usefulness in ADWR because you get very few opportunities to rest once you're out of the city. I don't know if that's enough to change anyone's vote, but just warning that it's not a game changer or anything.

Eh, I'd like to see what happens if you throw it away, but... I don't really trust Christiano. Also, most of the others seem to imply he'll do something nasty, so yeah. Keep that ring.

I say trust the ghost. It's been relatively friendly, even if it did hit on us. If nothing else, the ghost will probably warn us if Christiano tries anything.

"I want to be able to watch over you... I told you, I want to be your friend... You can leave the ring behind, if you do not believe me..."

"I will keep your ring for now."

"I am glad then... I wanted to warn you of your comrade... He stares at you when you are not looking... And not with benevolent eyes... I am concerned for your safety... Now sleep well... I will watch over you..."

The rest of the night passes without any further events. I wake up nicely refreshed, wondering if my conversation with Christano and the voice in my head were just a dream.

The key from the coffin opens a door to the south.



I leave Christano and Myra behind while I scout across the bridge, disarming traps along the way.



"Nice to see you decided to follow me."

There's more Undead here.





There's another door south, but I can't open it. Hopefully there's a key around here somewhere.



No key, but there is a lever. It sounds like it opened something.









"Are you blaming me that this... thing attacked us?"



"And we shall find it and destroy it!"

Another lever opens the south door.



There's something waiting for us.

"Should we hack the bones into pieces, just in case?"

"I don't think that should be necessary."

"It almost looked like it was guarding this passage..."

The passage leads even further down.







"How strange."

"It was likely used to wash corpses before burial. A lot of cultures do that." She runs her hands through the water. "This water has a cleansing effect. Delaying decay, but it might also be used to clean the effects of poison and diseases and such. After all those gas traps it may be smart to wash ourselves in it."

Myra strips off her armor and begins to wash herself.

"You're truly beautiful, my dear..."

Christano and I each take a turn. Myra's right; I can feel that the water has something magic about it.



I think about everything that's happened... about the ring... Was it such a good idea to keep it, knowing that it allows that shadow to witness what happens around me? The shadow seemed friendly enough, though.

"Give me just a second..."

"You've slept for almost six hours. But I think we're pretty safe here. I didn't even hear a rat during my watch. I admit I don't feel like sleeping at all. We're so close, I can feel it! I know that the golden chalice is here, within my reach!"

"I hope so. I really want to be out of this dungeon as soon as possible."

"If we find the chalice, you will have played a big part in it. I cannot say how glad I am that you are with us, Riona. This may well be our last evening on the island..." He inches closer, running his hand over my shoulder. "I'm dying to have you..."

"Forget it!"

"Come on. I can see it in your eyes that you want it as much as I do."

"I'll put my knife in your belly if you do not leave me be! I swear it!"

He raises an eyebrow at me. "You know that you are denying the request of a man of the holy church?"

"You. Won't. Touch me."

When the point of my sword touches him, he backs off.

"I never suspected you were such a prissy slut, Riona."

"Slut" is the most nonsensical insult for a woman who won't sleep with you. But no one should expect sense out of Christano.

"He is an evil man... I have to warn you... The cleric... He will not want her to find out what has happened tonight... He will try to silence you..."

I glance over at Myra. She's still sleeping.

"I would like to come to you so I can watch over you while you are in these dark halls... Maybe you could summon me?"

"Sure, if you tell me how...?"

"Perhaps if you copied the pattern that was painted on the altar in the room where we first met...? Draw it on the floor...?"

It would help to have the spirit here, wouldn't it? But I don't have anything to write with.

"You could use a drop of your blood..."

Signs appear in my head. I cut my finger and write them on the ground.

The voice in my head is gone, suddenly! I look down at the pattern on the floor. It is gone, too!

Hey, everyone told me to trust the ghost. This is what happens when Broken Forum votes on things.

I guess the moral lesson here is that there are no good choices

Only bad ones and slightly different bad ones.

Oh I agree, but this whole set-up just isn't sitting right with me.

I wouldn't put it past Christano to turn on both Myra and Riona, but I'm not getting any bad vibes from ghostie.

I pull Myra aside.

"Christano tried to sleep with me last night, Myra. I thought you should know."

I brace myself, expecting her to accuse me. But I couldn't just let her keep going, with him...

"I heard it... I... I don't know yet how to deal with it."

I wish I could help her. Right now, we just need to get out of here.



"Prepare to meet your doom, undead creature!"

"Hold on, dear. It does not seem to be hostile..."

"Let's find out what it wants, please."

For a moment, I think he's the spirit who gave me the ring; but he feels different, somehow.

"My soul longs to leave these dark caverns, but I am bound to this place... In life, I was the leader of the cult that used to hide in this dungeon."



"We will take back what your cult has stolen from my order!"

"Another crusader, then? I have been waiting for a long time for a crusader to return. Would you give me peace...?"

"What do you mean by that?"



"My order probably killed you! And now, you are afraid that your soul will be drawn into the depths of hell!"

"Your order did not kill me. We created a magical barrier they could not pass through."

"So you were buried alive. A well-deserved fate!"

"But we did not die. We came back."

"The Gods cursed you!"

"No... It is the work of a darker being. I think the Nameless One himself rules over the island and traps the souls of the deceased so they awaken in their graves."

If this Nameless One is a god, he's not one I've ever heard of.

"There's no such thing as a nameless one. What you say is blasphemy!"

"Call it what you wish. But you are a cleric. You should be able to lay us to rest."

"I believe I might be of help, too..."

...The Nameless One? I must have missed the point where we started playing Planescape: Torment.

Also, Christiano's really proving himself to be Lawful Stupid here... funnily enough, that's how a lot of inexperienced roleplayers tend to play Paladins in actual D&D... Instead of playing off the Paladin's pull between his mortal nature and his divine duty, most paladins tend to be played as incredibly inflexible. Hell, I seem to remember a post on the official Wizards site that basically said 'If you're playing a Paladin, don't be an ass, or you may need to find another group.'

See, to me, this Christano guy. He reminds me of a friend I once had named Brett. Brett had some mental issues going on; don't know what they were exactly, but it was kind of obvious. This dude got crazy excited about the strangest things, but when it came to things involving sexual situations...
Let's just say that I have taken that "no" route in real life. Wasn't pretty. Maybe that's why I hate him so much? I dunno.

He has this weird split personality; in battle/facing undead, he's Lawful Stupid (or at least Lawful Overexcited) and out of battle he's just plain Chaotic Neutral. I guess it could be read as him putting on a front in certain situations, but it honestly feels like the writer started revising some of his dialogue for consistency and just never finished.

EDIT: I am being kind of uncharitable. Rereading the next bit of dialogue I'm about to post, I think the contrast of projected personality/actual personality works. There's still a lot of random nonsense that comes before, but I see what the writer was getting at.

"So this is your true form? You were the voice in my head?"

"I have many forms, but I like this one... For today's purpose, anyway..."

"What purpose?"

"Revenge..."

"Killing that spectre, you mean?"

"Not just killing him... Taking him down onto the Planes with me... But never fear, little one... I told you, I was your friend..." The thing pets my head.



"No! I didn't even know what was happening!"

"The crime for such a thing is to be burnt at the stake!"

"A couple of hours ago you were in such a hurry to get your seed into her, and now you want to burn her, paladin...?"

"Christano..."

"The demon is lying! Now I see the truth of it! Riona is the fiend's concubine, and she was sent to divert me so I won't find the golden chalice!"

"I'm no one's concubine."



"You're crazy, Christano!"

Christano looks at Myra, desperately.

"Don't you see it, Myra? He sent Riona! She's a demon-sired devil!"

"You are pathetic, Paladin. I'm getting tired of you."

"I will send you back to hell, fiend!"



I stare in disbelief.

"Christano, no!"

Christano collapses. I have to fight hard not to puke. Myra rushes to his side and tries to stop the bleeding, then looks at me pleadingly.

"Please, you must not hurt Christano anymore..."

"A minute ago he wanted to burn you... Do not fool yourself..."

"Nobody deserves to suffer like this..."

"I must heal him! It cannot end like this!"

"You can't."

"Maybe I can..."

"You have done me a great favor, and I told you I was your friend... If you ask for his life, it shall be yours."

I've killed people before. Too many people. If I'd killed Christano with my own hands, I wouldn't regret it. But summoning a demon to kill -- I didn't mean to -- I wouldn't... no one's death is worth that.

"Please spare him."

I only hope our debts are now even.



"Keep my ring, little Riona... As a reminder of what you witnessed today... I've got a feeling that we will meet again..."

The journey feels longer on the way up.





"He should be glad that he's alive at all."

"We all have to thank the Gods that we survived this journey... Maybe we'll meet again, Riona. Until then, may the blessings of the Gods be with you."

It's raining in Betancuria. It's always raining. I head back to my apartment. I need a rest in a real bed...

Man, I love cliffhangers.

You can go all the way and ask the demon to kill Christano and Myra, then get a big demon reward, but I thought that's going a bit too far. Also you gain so many Evil alignment points that I think it is actually impossible to shift your alignment back to Neutral again, and I wasn't really prepared to roleplay that. But I hope everyone was surprised!

I find it strangely hilarious that the game doesn't make you have sex with Hyath.

Hey. He only has one arm. And will probably need intensive therapy for the rest of his life. And my immortal soul was in danger, doesn't that mean anything to you.

Actually part of it was I'd never had that conversation with Myra before this playthrough, where she says she knows what Christano did and is trying to figure out how to deal with it. She suddenly became a lot more sympathetic to me, whereas otherwise she's very "BITCH GET AWAY FROM MY MAN" (and you're like "I'M FREAKING TRYING").

But mostly it was the 9 billion Evil alignment points. Because, nope.

I think it was because you were honest and told her what he was doing.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I feel for this lady. She's dragged around with a nympho for the sake of RELIGIOUS BATTLE that is not adverse to humping every woman that approaches him. I don't want to kill both of them, just him really.

Here's a bit of trivia, I guess.

Remember the scene where Christano pees into the evil botomless pit? If you choose to pee into the pit as well (as a lady, I have no idea how this logistically works, please don't tell me), you hear evil laughter or something rising from the bottom.

In earlier versions of the module (so ADWR wiki tells me; I haven't played them), Hyath would then visit you in a dream and some stuff would happen and yeah.

So the game did make you have sex with Hyath. I guess that was just the one thing that had to be removed because it went too far.

I certainly was. I had sort of a feeling as soon as the ghost mentioned a demon that we apparently hadn't met yet, it would be the shadow. However, I was not expecting him to still actually be legitimately friendly towards Riona instead of the usual "MWAHAHA, FOOLISH MORTAL. YOU RESTORED MY FORM, SO PREPARE TO DIE!" Heck, he even spares Christano if you ask him to. Hyath may be an evil demon but it's kind of nice that he has a sense of honor.

EDIT: And then I saw the post you just made about him doing things to you in a dream. *sigh*

I want to play an earlier version of this module that is also not broken.

Suddenly, I feel the urge to take a few steps away from you and shower.

I haven't gotten to the point of no return, not yet. :P

It took me beating the game once and really liking all of the non-horrible parts of the game.
I love the music and I love the plot and I like the way it develops sorta and there are just so many things I like about this module that it lessens the blows of the horrible bits.

The sad thing is I've never played Neverwinter Nights, but for some reason I just can't look away from this. At first I was like, "NOPE." And now I'm just like, "HELLYEAH. Update!"

I just learned that someone else tried LPing this on Something Awful and ended up banned for it. Mostly because he was a douche, but it's interesting.
