Vico. So I tried playing more of the Vico route andddd SPOILER TIME

You know, there's a part of me that really admires the creator. This module clearly took a lot of work, and had a lot of... passion... put into it. But the rest of me is crying quietly in the corner because sure, she has talent, but this is what she put that talent into.

God help me but I sort've...can. I mean Vico is, essentially, the classic bad boy, just turned up to 11, and I've had my share of crushes on people that weren't necessarily good relationship material. The rape thing limits his appeal to a small subsection of people who can actually do the mental gymnastics required to forgive him for it, but there are tons of women who really like the archetype that he embodies. Just look at how many fangirls Bishop has, and he's almost the exact same character. It's precisely because I can sort of see why people might find Vico appealing that I find him so repulsive. I guess it's the hating in others what you see in yourself sort of thing.

Yeah. I am so conflicted on this mod. It's like a love/hate relationship. I mean, it's actually really really fun at times. I love playing sneaky rogues and this mod was made for people who like playing sneaky rogues

He is, isn't he? That explains why I've never liked that character type. And here I always thought it was because I'm a lesbian.

You should download it, and then play it until you feel like dropping out.

It's precisely because Vico is turned up to 11 that I don't get people liking him.

I think I've stated bits and pieces of that before, so I apologize for being disorganized in my ADWR commentary. My thoughts are a work in progress.

The only other one I've played is Gladiatrix, and I quit after an hour or two because it was boring as heck. (Although the modder actually did the work of animating the sex scenes instead of just having the characters spazz out in darkness while the scene was described in bad text porn, so that's something I guess?)

It's clearly all Vico's fault which is why he should be avoid by all means and killed at the first available opportunity. Surely his death will fix whatever ails you so. Well okay, there are other things too, but he's the main reason so what I've just said is totally sound. Yep.

That's actually pretty cool that it works out like that. (Well, I mean, you know what I mean.) I think I do have to play this thing.

I'm amazed by how I was completely serious while reading page 8 of this thread, then turned the page and found myself cracking up. I'd come up with another "you know what's bad, when you are having sex and...", but all I can think of are really crude ones that make me cring while thinking of them. Brain needs coffee I guess.

Anyway. Tony is surprisingly... cool. I mean, he is a possesive asshat that doesn't seem to care for anything else than Riona's assets, but when you take a peek at the other options (or just put him in the same room with Vico for five minutes, really) he just feels so correct.

Not for me. The bickering that he and Vico engage in just made me hate them both, especially once you discover that they're actually friends.

I mean, it's two different kinds of insufferable. You've got Vico being a condescending dickwad, and then you've got Tony being all sickly sweet and possessive and proud of you only because he sees you as "his". It's gross in every single way and I wish I'd had the option of poisoning the lot of them.

On a positive note, I like a lot of the art used in this mod. I have a fondness for Cata's portrait in particular. It looks like most of them were done by the same artist. Does anyone know where the art comes from or who the artist is?

That would be pretty cool actually. Sometimes, I forget that you can actually, you know, disregard both of them instead of going with the "less worse".

I'M FALLING IN THIS GAME'S TRAP

As far as I know, all the portraits are from the original game, some used for characters in the main campaign and some just used for PC portraits.

The moment I get really mad at Tony is in the next update.

But despite Tony's problems, I totally get why the PC would get into a relationship with him, whether you're playing her as innocent or as Chaotic Stupid. So that's a plus for his character, I think.

Once we're done, we set up a small camp fire in a quiet corner and gather around it. A couple of minutes later Vico's also back.

"What about that Dhorn ranger...?"

"Told him I saw something moving down on the water. Gave him a shove when he went over the cliff."

"What if he can swim?"

"I also plunged my dagger in his back before I pushed him over."

Tony suggests I should go upstairs and see if the ranger left anything valuable.



I find a few gold coins and potions, but not much else of value. I head back downstairs.









"Just a couple of supplies."

"Where'd you get that bruise on your cheek from?"

"There was another orc up there..."

"Shit!"

"Calm down, buddy. Birdie's fine, as you can see."

I tell Tony what happened. He beams at me.

Tony laughs, turning to cata. "And you said she wasn't ready for this!"

Cata and Vico go off to double-check the area while Tony roasts some meat on the fire.



"I find this place a bit scary, to be honest."

"Who could haev known that we'd need to fight a whole clan of orcs. But you've done very well, beautiful." He glances towards the stairs. "Wonder what Cat and Vico are doing."

"What exactly is your relationship with Vico? He seems to accept that you are in charge here."

Tony shrugs. "He's Family. Not in blood, of course, but I've known him for a long time now. Been through a lot of shit together. I trust him with my life."

"Do you know what he has done to me?"

He looks into the fire for a while, not responding. "He told me he found you at the castle, and that he wanted to kill you but then decided against it."

"That's right, he just raped me."

He nods slowly. "Must have been awful."

"Thanks for your compassion."

I can barely spit it out. Tony, you said you'd kill any man who laid a hand on me -- but not Vico?

This is the moment I was talking about, Nebty.

Tony puts a hand on my shoulder, gently.

"I'm glad he spared your life, beautiful."

I don't know what to say to that. I'm glad, too, but that isn't the point.

Cata and Vico return just then, and Tony starts to discuss the particulars of the deal. I follow along as best I can, but after a while I drift off to sleep.

"Good morning, beautiful."



Tony says I should go exploring for a while -- I guess they need me out of the way again.











And then I gain a level!











There's nothing of interest outside this hidden cove, so I return back to Tony in the tower.

"What kind of goods are the Sargozians buying, anyway?"

"Poppy seeds. About ten crates full."



We carry the crates up to the tower. I watch the transaction from upstairs, through the grates in the floor. Everyone's tense, but it seems to go through without a problem.











Tony agrees to stay with the Sargozians while Vico gets a bigger ship to transport them all back to Betancuria.

Tony wakes me in the morning. I don't think he's been home very long.

"Vico get you home all right?"

"He didn't touch me, if that's what you mean."



Tony tells me to get ready and look my best, then kisses me and heads out again. My heart sinks. I'm sure we won't get a chance to talk at all today.

The evening comes soon. I take a deep breath and head out to the party.





I blink in surprise. Where did this come from, Tony? Maybe he's just showing off for the Sargozians...

It'll ruin whatever plans he has if I start arguing now, so I just smile and curtsy.







It's getting harder to smile. I slip Tony's hand away. The men continue talking about me as if I weren't there.



That's a hint that they're talking business and I shouldn't be there, but I'm just glad to get away. I overhear pieces of their conversation as Timo makes me a drink.

"Of course." I smile.





"Perhaps."









I lay down next to him. We can talk in the morning.

And then marry him and have dozens of mini-Tonys. Ugh. I was actually sort of relieved when the smugglers assassinated him. Saved me the trouble of breaking it off myself.

Tony's dead.



Everyone's dead.



Yeah, I looted all the bodies. What are you going to do about it?

I manage to swallow a health potion, then get past the flames and out the front door.



Before I can respond, Cata smashes into me, knocking us both to the ground as there's a loud crash, the whole upper floor of Tony's house coming down.

Coughing and wriggling away, we watch the house collapse, flames greedily consuming the remaining structure.

"We need to get away before the Dhorn show up. Come!" She pulls me to my feet and drags me with her.



I'm not sure how much time passes. When Cata returns, she's accompanied by Alfons, Vico, Master Nathan and Timo, Nathan's bodyguard.

I have to swallow, thinking of how Tony called his butler Timo, too.

And now they're both dead...



"Easy, okay, Cat?" Alfons puts a hand on Cata's shoulder.

She glares at Alfons. "Tony's house is a fucking ruin, and you tell me to take it easy?"

"I tell you to back off so Riona can tell us what happened."

Vico snorts. "As if that's so difficult to guess."

Alfons takes my hand and gently pulls me to my feet, giving me a reassuring smile. "So what happened, Riona?"

"The Sargozians... They must have snuck into the house... They... shot Tony... They shot me, too, but I didn't die... then the house was on fire, and Tony's body was there..."

"I hate to ask that, Riona, but what about Tony's vault? Did they break into it? Do you know?"

"It's all gone."

"Shit!"

Master Nathan calmly looks at Vico. "Do we know where the Sargozians are?"

"Doubt they're still in the city. But I'll look."

"Look out for them. I want them found. They're going to pay for this."

Alfons glances at me. "The other people in Tony's household...?"

I shake my head and look away.

"Talk about a clean job."

"Fortunately not that clean. They didn't get Riona."



I can't stop myself from crying.

"Stop letting out your frustration on Riona, Cata. we understand that this hit you hard, but there's absolutely NO reason to blame her. Okay?"

Cata clenches her teeth.

Master Nathan strokes his chin, then turns to me. "I think it's best if you move into the Bearpit again, Riona."



"I'm going to miss him..."

He glances at the others. "Let me know if you find anything."

"You got it."

I head back to the Bearpit with Master Nathan. It's after dawn, and Caron's already at work. When he sees my tear-stained face, he wordlessly pulls me into a hug. It's a long while before I let go.
