If you put your screen in a 4:3 Ratio in looks.. like.. shit still but at least the white space is gone. And I'm liking Zeke's post and not yours just to spite you.
You can resize your browser window and then move it but hey why not put the fucking recommended or whatever back where it was and not underneath the video. I feel like they wanted to cram ads in there but forgot.
It's nice how the recommends are on the side if your video is small, but set it to medium-large and it slides underneath, preserving that precious empty space.
Holy hell. I don't have a cursor when I'm typing a comment in the new YouTube. Absolutely zero indication of where I am in the text at this point. Is that just me? Is it just Firefox maybe? Is this really that poorly coded?
The new front page is a useless unordered mishmash of old videos I've already watched from a week ago, a lack of actual new videos I want to see, and although I can still get to what I really want (My Subscriptions -> Uploads Only), it's extra clicks every time because it always takes me to "All Activity" first, when I couldn't care less about what other people have favourited or commented on. I might just have to bookmark that page and go directly to it often enough that it becomes the main association in Chrome's address bar when I start typing 'y'...
More like Full Google+, which is somehow worse. :( (Side note - I first discovered this change last night when helping AaronSofaer fix a video embed, and for a second I thought his link broke YouTube or that I'd somehow logged in to his G+ account.)
I noticed that Google search now has the same "everything moved to the left" layout. This tells me that it's all designed for tablet use.
Huh. How do I view just recommended videos? Edit: Ah. I have to go and hunt out a recommended video in the main view and then click on the word 'recommended'. Edit: Oh dear, the 'send feedback' button doesn't do anything.
It's not immediately obvious since it's one of those click-on-this-otherwise-unrelated-looking-icon things, but try here: http://www.youtube.com/feed/recommended
WTF is that? Why don't they just center shit. Empty space sucks but it sucks a whole lot less when it's balanced on either side.
It's nice that the Subscriptions section in the left column shows me how many unseen videos there are in my subscribed channels...but where's the 'Mark As Seen' option? I don't want to have to go and actually load up every individual video when I've already decided I don't want to watch them, just to reset the counter... Edit: And actually, even watching the latest video doesn't change the counter. Just broken at the moment, maybe?
I want the recommended things to go away. It's either recommending terrible things or things I have already watched. How do I make this stuff just go? EDIT: Oh wait, I got it.
I agree. The graphic designer in me is cringing at all of this, as people look at the centre of the screen. Left aligned is fine, as long as you make use of the space to the right and don't just leave it empty. All of this G+ integration appears to be designed to fit within a 1024 wide space, which is why I believe it's designed for tablets, and quite likely, Chromebooks. Google News has the "Top Stories" on the left, but if you reduce the width of your browser, it disappears so that the news items in the centre fit within the 1024 space without the need for horizontal scrolling. Some things in G+ are still centred, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that change soon.
To remove a click from getting to see new uploads, from the main screen click "Manage Subscriptions". On that page, check the box at the top that checks all the subscriptions, then click the Actions button and choose "Show uploads only in feed". This makes it to that the default "All Activity" on the My Subscriptions is just uploads. Next, bookmark http://www.youtube.com/feed/subscriptions instead of the youtube main page. At least they got rid of that silly Highlights vs Everything selection. Why would I ever want to not see all the new stuff?
Not only this, but it looks like they also removed the ability to share a link to the HD version of the video, which used to be a toggle-able option when you clicked "share." If it's still there somewhere, I sure can't find it. .
I think the Long Link option is also gone, which may make embedding videos here at BF more complicated, as our forum software doesn't handle the short URLs. ETA: Tested, verified. Short YouTube URLs still don't work with our media handler.
What is it with 2012 being the year of fuck all colour? Office 2013 has something equally horrific. Personal favourites: Feedback button is unreliable Blackout tool is listed second but can't blackout in highlighted areas You still have a screen for editing playlists separate from playing them No link to recommended videos without first finding a recommended video More content in the central feed but nothing replaces the content removed from the right-hand side, thus ensuring a long scroll fest
Dear designers of popular internet pages: I know you want to design everything for tablet use now and be accessible and cool, but I'm betting at least 90% of the internet is still being delivered by a computer. Your big white empty redesigns look fucking awful for the overwhelming majority of the internet. Please stop it.
Looks like they're making some changes; that new home page with all the irrelevant activity is gone and it goes straight to your subscriptions now, and there's a vertical list of episodes in a series to the right of the player when in the small view. Edit: Or maybe not, the "What to watch" default page is back when I view it from home.
I didn't even know about this redesign since I use a Chrome extension that makes the YouTube interface way less irritating.
Why the FUCK can I not sort by Upload Date any more!? Or even sort at all, seems like. Fucking Google is getting so annoying. They keep trying to reinvent the wheel, but they end up reinventing small pox.
The look has changed again to become shitter. Now a video uploaded just hours ago is buried beneath lists of most popular videos people I subscribe to uploaded two years ago. I'd switch to the subscribe panel, but I want the recommendations too, which still don't have a menu option on the left!
It's been a few months and I'm still not used to the redesign. No I do not want to subscribe to those people. I've already seen that video. No I really do not want to subscribe to PewDiePie and I am offended that you think I do.
The redesign doesn't bother me nearly as much as the damn "Auto" quality thing they added. You can't set a default minimum quality anywhere, and you can't turn it off. So, all my videos start in 360p, then drop to 240p, then after about 10 seconds jump to 720p (or the highest setting below). Every. single. time I have to click off Auto and set it to the resolution I want to avoid this bullshit. What the hell, Google?
Google is now the enemy of the internet. Also, click on auto to turn it off. It just wouldn't show that it's off.
Oddly for most videos for me now, there is no auto setting, but I can set the speed at which the video plays (0.5x for example), which is pretty much useless.
