I'm not a Redskins fan, but I want to kick Shanahan in the face if we miss even a single game of RGIII next season.
I see that denial but I also see an AP report now confirming ACL damage. I guess we'll have to wait for official statements.
Yeah there was ACL damage, but apparently not a complete tear. The surgery is complete now; Andrews repaired (not replaced, thank god) his ACL and LCL. Apparently the ACL needed to be strengthened, but from what RG3's dad was saying: I think he meant repair. Whatever. They're now quoting a 6-8 month recovery time, which seems...optimistic. I'm guessing that if they are honest, it's probably more a year. Hopefully he won't rush back to the field before he's ready.
I like both Ryan twins (as defensive coordinators) and hate the Cowboys so I'm happy to see him move on. Hopefully the next guy will get them playing down to their talent level.
Apparently the Eagles have interviewed Brian Kelly of Notre Dame. Except that everyone except the Eagles seems to think its merely Kelly's way of leveraging ND for a better contract. I heard a Philly commentator today who said the Eagles have struck out across the board with their attempts to get an exciting college coach and will likely end up with some less then exciting DC or OC.
Mularkey fired in Jacksonville after they hired their new GM. And the new GM says he has no interest in Tebow.
And the Browns hire Panthers OC Rob Chudzinski to be their new head coach. He has some Cleveland ties as he was the OC for Crennel for a few years. Browns fans are not impressed, but new CEO Joe Banner did pretty well finding Reid for the Eagles years ago so it might be a better move then it looks at the moment.
The Cowboys, looking to secure the future, hire Monte Kiffin as their new DC. He'll be 73 in February. Goddamn I love me some Jerry Jones.
While I don't mind getting rid of Fat Lebowski as DC (I'd have given him another year to see what he could do, seeing as he's only had one full offseason/training camp to work on his schemes but whatever) bringing in Kiffin tells me that Jerreh is both back on the sauce and confused as to what year this is. He better have more up his sleeve than a straight Tampa 2 because (unless you've stacked your D like the Bears and the Cowboys D is no where near that level even fully fit) pretty much every QB not named Blane Gabbert can mow that down at this point.
I pretty much don't like the Cowboys (actually I pretty much dislike the entire NFC East, with the possible exception of the Redskins 'cuz I'm an RGIII fan), so bring it on Jerry!
What's awesome about this move is that this means they're moving to a 4-3...and considering they're 18.5 mill over the salcap, they're going to have to do that move on the cheap. That always works out well. Plus, the two corners they spent a fortune on, Claiborne and Carr are press cover corners...wait, you say, Tampa 2 is a zone defense? Oh riiiiight! No worries, that worked out well for Asomugha in Philly didn't it?
ell ell ell ell ell oh oh oh oh oh ell ell ell el ell! What bugs me is that probably somehow Tony Romo will get blamed for all this. I don't know what that poor bastard's contract looks like, but if I'm Romo I cannot wait for free agency.
I'm not that worried about the cap or the personnel (line and backers wise) that much, even assuming that the Cowboys are going to a straight Tampa 2 scheme. If Spencer stays and has more of a "get the QB" role to complement Ware and keep the opposing blockers honest it may even help. Also, I bitch about Jerreh the GM a lot, but one thing he is actually pretty good at is on the contract/cap end of the game; don't be surprised if people like Doug "Insult to turnstiles" Free get gone. Also, when I hear stuff like this I'm more encouraged that Jerreh isn't just flailing around wildly. The Ginger Professor has been piss poor with clock management. That's what I'm worried about with this move. Carr's got a lot of money and Claiborne is someone that we traded up for. If the line doesn't get good pressure on the QB then they're going to get torched. Romo's due $16.8 million for 2013, and IIRC that's the last year of his contract. He'll also turn 33 before the season starts.
Bringing this back to teams actually still playing football games: Does anyone know what Peyton's cyberneck is rated down to? I ask this because kickoff temp in Denver is supposed to be 19 fucking degrees.
Am I the only one whose feed for the SF/GB game seems screwed up? It's almost like it's zoomed in; I'm missing most of the scoreboard in the upper left corner and the camera angle seems a lot tighter than normal. It's not happening during commercials, just during the game itself. And other channels are fine!
That was a fantastic football game, and definitely a step up after last weeks series of disappointing games...
Jesus Christ this game. The 49ers are having their way with the Packers like Roethlisberger in a men's room. They're going to have a 600-plus yard game.
Woo! NFL record! This should end all the talk about whether Alex Smith deserved to keep his job. Interesting stat: Kaepernick has thrown four interceptions in his career. The next time he touched the ball, he has led a touchdown drive every single time.
Man, the Niners D has now given up more than 30 points in three of the last four games. The way they're playing, I think the Falcons might be a much more favorable matchup for them next week.
Well, no. The defense only gave up 24 points, and 7 of those were intentional when they went to the prevent and basically made the Packers run out the clock themselves.
Goddammit Seahawks, get it together. Ugh, the defense does not look like it's going to get it done this game, at least not the way it's playing now. Other than the interception, they're not really showing they can stop ATL from moving the ball. The only bright spot on defense right now is Richard Sherman. Normally I like fourth down aggression, but a) you're in easy FG range and it's early and you're only down by 13 and b) you just got stuffed on 3rd and short. Bad call to go for it. Bleh.
They seem rather discombobulated. But I also felt the Falcons have been underrated so I'm sure they are playing a role as well. It's hard to say why, but they look like the mid-season defense that was being run on. The loss of Clemons is probably having an impact, but that doesn't explain Red Bryant and Eart Thomas getting run over. That play calling on the short yardage - yuck. They didn't even give to Lynch on either play. That shows they don't have much confidence in him. Now down 20-0, this is the first time all year the Seahawks have been rolled like this. It's funny that all three games so far this weekend have gone against the conventional wisdom or what the national analysts thought.
Bleh, that's the game. The Seahawks are just not into this game for some reason. The defense is missing tackles, and is totally unable to stop them from converting third down. For a time they were able to deal with the deep threat, but it looks like they've lost the ability to do even that. SADFACE.
And Lynch wasn't even on the field for that 3rd down run. Fumble earlier not withstanding, you need him at least in the backfield for that.
That pick helps; if they can turn it into 7 this might be a game. a few minutes later: well now... Let's see if the D can hold. after the D holds: oh shit!
