HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT ABOUT A MAN WITH PURPLE EYES AND SILVER HAIR
    HOW

(I'm still going to vote for Willfred, though.)

BECAUSE HE ASKED A GIRL HE KNEW FOR MAYBE FIVE MINUTES TO GO OUT WITH HIM AND HE WAS GETTING INTO HER PERSONAL SPACE. NO AMOUNT OF PURPLE CAN FIX THAT.
Yes, that's right! Everyone should vote for Wilfred!

edit: Hey I just remembered why Edward freaks me out as much as he does! I used to know a guy like that (well I didn't really know him at all, it was the first day I ever saw him and I never did find out what his name was) and then he asked me out and kept getting in my space and nope nope nope </3

Just so you know, one of the characters in the game I'm making has long silver hair and purple eyes.

I definitely want Wilfred route next. Wilfred route seems like it would be full of cuteness.

It's not just you Kai, he weirds me out too. Less than Josh by far, but still... He doesn't set well with me.

Are you planning to share with the rest of the world? If so, I would be very interested :D

I really like silver hair. So soft. So silky.

Kadaaaaaaaj~~!!! I remember finding that movie in the local video rental store and I nearly squeeled right then and there after realizing that it was real. I loved it, but I still love the games more.

EXACTLY. Like, he seems genuinely well-meaning enough I try not to hold it against him, but I find myself not wanting to be left alone with him. Like, in company with all the princes, he's ok. I'd chill with him. But one on one? Geezus, GTFO I need an adult!

I'm fine with Edward, but he's too boring sweet and polite for me.

Would you find Edward less creepy if I told you he's a total nerd? He likes opera and reads a lot, and he wears glasses when he doesn't have his contacts in.

Oh, I don't dislike hime as a person, he's a nice guy. Just all his creepy storybook prince-ing and forwardness weirds me the fuck out. Like I said, fun to hang out with in a group, wouldn't want to be cornered by him though.

Nope~ But it certainly helps me like him more. I thought he was just the standard boring fairytale.
Not melancholic because he's a smooth charmer but the harp makes sense within the setting and character personality. Thanks for the suggestion, will definitely be using that.

Guys, I was wondering, have you ever seen a Tsundere done well?
The few examples I've seen are either squicky, creepy, facepalm and/or rage-worthy or any combination of the those. Some get cute enough, but there's a limit to what cuteness can redeem in a route.
Like Lambert. There were like 3 moments that were genuinely fluffy and I would have loved every minute of them if Lambert weren't a giant asshole the rest of the route. Even Joshua can get ridiculously creepy sometimes.

    .

  19. Joie de Combat Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Hmmm. That's a hard question to answer because a) a lot of it comes down to personal preferences which vary wildly from one person to another and 2) "tsundere" is itself a pretty loosely-defined term that gets used in a variety of ways.

I'm a bad person to ask, given that Keith is my favorite character in Be My Princess, I like Joshua, and I really didn't mind Lambert all that much either. Granted I set the bar of my expectations pretty low for these games, but if you personally have a very low tolerance for rude or confrontational behavior from a love interest character, then it just might be that tsundere characters in general aren't going to work well for you.

(I also make a distinction between "well-written" and "likeable," and I can probably find several examples of characters who I think are well-written tsundere types but who you almost certainly wouldn't find any more likeable than you do Lambert.)

But given point #2 above, let me ask: how do you feel about "type b" tsundere characters - the kind who who are usually nice, but have powerful tempers that go off when they're provoked (usually and most often by one specific person)? These are usually female, since male tsundere love interests are usually "type a," defaulting to tsun and going dere only once they fall for someone. Kaname in Full Metal Panic! would be a pretty good example of a type b.
  20. MariPanda Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Well, y'see, my standards are pretty low, I guess. I usually don't mind rude or confrontational behavior, and I think that what annoyed me so much about Lambert's route was his infinite condescension and prejudice because Protag-chan's "just a commoner". I loved Souji from Hakuoki, even though he's such an ass most of the time, for one (though I think he's not a tsundere? I guess?).
But even Sakuya from Hatoful didn't annoy me as much as Lambert, even though he's just as condescending as him and I don't understand my feels anymore.

Now, about type a tsunderes, I think I might hate them all? Kaname herself was pretty annoying to me, back when I was watching Full Metal Panic!, and reading the TV Tropes page for examples of Tsunderes in anime, I realized I don't like most of them, and even the ones I did like, Kagome, for example, were pretty annoying to me during the times where they acted all tsuntsun towards their love interest.

EDIT: I just remember a Type A Tsundere that I actually adored! I mean, I think he was a Tsundere.
Anyway, it's Tomoe the fox, from a manga that I read quite some time ago called Kamisama Hajimemashita.
At first he was really condescending and annoyed with Protag-chan, but then he warmed up to her and had some moments that were trully fluffy and adorable and I loved those twooooooooo. <3
  21. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

ChikaSol, I saw karaoke and DIED. Thanks for that.

Edit: DISCUSSION OF TSUNS I MUST JOIN. I'm very much a case by case. For me, it strongly depends on how ideally the person in question is being portrayed as a love interest, IF they're a love interest.
  22. OtomeGamer Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Tomoe <3 Gosh, he makes a blushing fangirl out of me at times. Tsundere with enough dere and fox ears? Where do I sign up?

My tsunderes need more dere than tsun. And they need to be full dere. Blushes, stammering, confused at their sudden like for the Protag, the whole shebang, etc. I can like their Tsun side if done well, but usually, it just makes me want to leave the room.

For an example of a tsundere that is stupidly tsun, try Adrian from Rose Destiny Dating Sim. Try it (and break your brain)~

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, it's funny, but on the other...I remember a time when I was cornered and no one else was around and some guy tried to get me to hug him...it was really scary. It's probably contributed to my irrational fear of touching guys in real life.

Sounds like Russell from PiL. Or Harry in TMGS2.
  24. Joie de Combat Already Beat BF's New Expansion

So the next question is, what is it about Tomoe that makes him more likeable to you than other tsundere characters?

Because from my relatively limited exposure to Kamisama Hajimemashita, he's a pretty average type a.

I think this is really what it comes down to for me. I'm willing to put up with a good bit of bad behavior from a character so long as the text treats it as actual bad behavior rather than presenting the character as being right to act the way he or she does.
  25. OtomeGamer Already Beat BF's New Expansion

He is. But he's an A done well compared to the other As I've seen. He's an A+!

    /shot

I do like Harry! But who's Russell? Ohhh, Pirates in Love, I just got it...From what I know, Russell seems more tsun than dere, though. And it's not working for him.

ChikaSol, yeah that's a pretty accurate illustration of my fears of him. xD

This is a good question! probably mroe suited for the Love Interests thread in River Kawaii if we want to continue an extended discussion, but I'll throw my two cents in as abbriviated as I can.

Joie de Combat, as usual, explains things and brings up excellent points. Generally speaking, the tsundere type really REALLY doesn't appeal to me. On the other hand, I'm nagging my brin to remember some that I liked before I even knew the term 'tsundere.'

I have Magical Starsign on the brain since I just started LPing it and I can say the character Mokka won me over. He might fit into a kuudere subcatagory of tsunderes, but he really seems mean most of the time. Then out of nowhere, he'll express something nice toward you, unprovoked and highly confusing. It's written in such a way that you honestly get the impression that he respects you and cares about you.

Then again, Magical Starsign is not an otome, he's just a main character no your potential lover. Well. mostly.

Rydia from Final Fantasy 4 - again, not an otome but has a love story in game where you get to watch her tsun - can be likable. Usually when she becomes aggressive, she has a good reason behind it, but still comes off as a bitch at first. Usually you don't end up hating her though, at worst she's just annoying. At best, she seems like a strong woman and pretty likable.

I know there's more, it's gonna nag at me, too.

I guess it's pretty much this:
Tomoe's an ass and all, but after some time you get the impression that he's really in love with the Protag and he worries about her.
Tomoe gets enough deredere to redeem his tsuntsun, really.

RYDIA WAS SO ANNOYING UGH I HATEEEEEDDD HEEEEEER. But then again, I hated all Final Fantasy 4 female PCs (all three of them).
I did say I disliked Type B Tsuns, though, so there's that.

I think Junko's a pretty likable tsundere, but I did write her, so there's that. (Also, she's partially based off of one of my favorite Sailor Moon characters ever, so there's also that.)
  31. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

I tried and failed reading Kamisama Hajimemashita, but that's mostly because the Protagonist ticked me off after a while. I don't know, there's just something about the story that I had trouble liking, and though I'll get back to it eventually (since I hate leaving things unfinished despite this more or less being my MO), I don't really like the whole Tomoe/whatever-Protag-chan's-name-was pairing. Hell knows why, I rather liked Tomoe, albeit not as a love interest.

Interesting, because I quite liked Protag-chan (even though I don't remember her name). Her oh-so-tragic backstory was kinda exaggerated, and she was really Mary Sue-ish, but I still liked her.

Ohhhh, the Mysidian twins. You've got it backwards though, Palom the overconfident was the boy and the black mage. Porom was his white mage sister, always trying to keep his dumb ass in line and be helpful. I adored Porom, I'm a little sad to hear you don't like her...
  35. Joie de Combat Already Beat BF's New Expansion

My favorite thing about FF4 is what a derp Cecil comes across as.

Baigan: "Cecil! I was kind of an ass in the first fifteen minutes of the game but I am totally on your side now. Let me help!"
Cecil: "Great! You can walk right behind me! :D"
Palom and Porom: exchange sidelong glances

    and also:

    "...Say, Rosa?"
    "Yes, Cecil? ♥"
"Why do you have a spell that teleports you into my bedroom?"
    "...oh... no reason. ♥"

If only the game didn't enforce its headcount limit with such an iron fist.

    /irrelevant tangent

Both twins annoyed me, actually. But then again, I didn't like most characters in that game, with the exception of Kain, Cecil and maybe Golbez.
I really really loved Kain, especially during his part of the bonus dungeon in the GBA version~
And I only started to really like both Cecil and his brother after I played Dissidia, so yeah.
That's why you shouldn't take my opinions so seriously. I'm weird.

That part of FFIV reminded me so very much of FFII,
The GBA version of IV kinda fixed this, though.
  37. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

There was something about her particular brand of stupid that made me want to flip tables. Now, don't get me wrong, I can deal with stupid and/or oblivious protagonists, depending on how they're pulled off. There will definitely be moments where I want to shake them until they see sense, but overall, they don't bother me. This Protag-chan did. Her level of oblivious/dumb was rather infuriating at times, I really don't know why, I had few issues with her otherwise.

I personally had no problems with the backstory, though. If anything, I was surprised at how well she was taking everything.
  38. MariPanda Already Beat BF's New Expansion

    Location:

Hm. I've never thought of her as stupid. I guess I've seen dumber Protags, and because of that she seemed rather bearable to me. Because I do dislike dumb protagonists and I'd love to see intelligent main characters more often. (That's why I adore Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality <3 <3 You guys should read it)
What really annoyed me, though, was her incredible sense of righteousness. She was just so saintly! I mean, okay, she's a goddess, whatever. But she's still human. Where are her flaws? We're not supposed to be altruistic and happy-go-lucky all the time. (I still liked her, by the way. I'm pretty sure it didn't sound that way)

... I think I may be asking too much out of a cute and fluffy shoujo manga.

No, you're not. I've seen some fantastic shoujos out there that gave me characters with real personalities and flaws and qualities and inter-relationships with other characters that were worthwhile and still had plot. It's not asking for too much. It can be done.
